No warranty is a concern, at least for me, but it is an intriguing design.
I know what you're saying. In the case of this vape, the only things that can go wrong are the thermometer and the torch. The vape itself is just a block of wood with a heat sink.

I was very lucky with this vaporizer. At the time I didn't know a whole lot and the research I did didn't turn up much useful info. It was the only vape that was easily concealed and didn't require electricity. So I grabbed it knowing it was a bit of a shot in the dark. Up until April this was the only vape I had and it got heavy usage. When my thermometer crapped out on me (i.e. I broke the wire) I used it without until a replacement arrived.
I agree with you about the warranty but speaking from experience, it isn't an issue with this particular vape.

No association wiith the company, just got one recently. Sorry you're having trouble with my claims. I tried putting it plainly.
i asked that because you seemed to know the maker by first name
and by some of your claims...

one other question
how many other vapes do you own/have tried???
one thing that i just can't seem to grasp is the claim
"Flavor intensity/purity is the best I've ever had from a vaporizer"
when the vape is made from metal/wood :/

to me this thing comes off as a sort of a vapor genie
with a bunch of bells and whistles added on...

btw
thanks for the review,i have never heard of this vape before

Nice write up, Kumar. Serious MS paint skillz right there. Seriously that diagram explains how it works much better than anything on the official site.

Not sure why the SV doesn't get more love. It has the same 2 elements that make another favorite vaporizer work so well-- a little conduction on the side to get things brewing and a large heat mass with lots of surface area.

Admittedly, a hand-held cannabis vaporizer with a searing-hot branding iron on the end is almost comical. But if it excels at its main function (vaporizing cannabis), it's hard to hold that against it, especially with all the other vape choices out there these days. Hell, I think it'd be pretty cool to have the world's most dangerous vaporizer.

Maybe a metal cylinder that fit into the stock bowl could function as a bowl for easy reloading. Ever try sticking a MZ bowl in there?

Any questions? Ask away.
Well, since you asked. :D

-Those burn marks on the wood are from being sloppy with the torch, not heat transfer from the wood, correct?
-Would you mind taking a few dry run hits? See if you notice any added taste to the hot air.
-Others have kind of addressed this, but, after getting well acquainted with usage, how hard do you think it'd be to use it if the thermometer died?
-What other vapes have you used? (any others than the 4 in your (great) roundup?)

BTW, here's the maker's ebay where you can get it for $170: http://myworld.ebay.com/supremev/

Respek!

"Flavor intensity/purity is the best I've ever had from a vaporizer"
when the vape is made from metal/wood hmm
the purer taste doesnt have as much to do with materials as you think, the primary thing that would allow it to be tastier than other vapes is the heating mass and the huge amount of surface area the air is exposed to, which creates very evenly heated air, thus there isnt hotter than favorable temp air mixed with cold temp air, which kind of kills the flavor in my experience. going for evenly heated air is the exact same strategy the vhw and glass vape go for, and it increases extraction efficiency significantly. metal has no taste as long as it is clean, and according to their eba listing the heat exchanger is thouroughly washed and heat treated before it leaves the factory. there is no reason that the supreme cannot create pure intense tasting vapor

- Flavor being the "best" doesn't mean much. In addition to the 4 in the review, I also wore out an AromaZap, and have made and used homemade vapes. I'm no expert, but vaporizing isn't exactly rocket surgery either. None of the vapes I've had had any bad flavor, maybe just a smell if that. The Supreme won on intensity more than purity, largely because that's easier to determine, but also because the differences in "purity" between vapes were much smaller.

- The burn marks are from being sloppy of course, and if I wasn't routinely burning it in ways specifically forbidden by the manual (330F max, don't ever point at wood!), I'm sure there'd be nothing.

- Dry runs up to 350F had no flavor except heat and maybe a slight hint of depleted herbs. Or maybe I was imagining that and it was just hot air. Maybe the wood has a smell, but if it does, it's constant, not just when heated.

- Thermometer reading would need to be taken from the tube. IR would be fine, as would some different styles I'm sure.

- The SV is much better at vaporizing herb than the VG, but the VG can be dropped in a pocket. The Supreme absolutely slays the Vapor Genie in size of hit, ease and consistency, and also taste because I accidentally combust regularly with VG, though it may be fine if I never did. Maybe I'm tasting old combusted stank and that's why the clean Supreme seems so much better. VG rules for pocketing, so it's staying. I'm not offended by the VG, but the SV seems cleaner tasting to me.

- Thinking of the Supreme as portable is fine, as long as you realize that using it on-the-go isn't really its thing. You can go somewhere and use it like an electric powered model, but you really should have some room to operate and a little cool off time after.

For the supreme vaporizer to cool down from vaping over 300F to below 150F would take a good few minutes no matter what, with air flow and temperature greatly affecting cooling rate. You're not supposed to touch it with water. I don't know when exactly it's cool enough to be bagged. You wouldn't enjoy touching it directly too much into the 100s. Sorry I can't be more precise.

!
I had to use mine without a thermometer for a week or so until replacements arrived (I think Ed was unavailable for a bit or else it would have come much faster). I just kind of estimated the time for heating and also went by smell. Around 230 degrees I could smell the niceness. So a little bit after the aroma starts I begin vaping. If I get vapor, cool. If not, I heat a little more. It can definitely be done, and I'm sure if I had more time I'd get a technique down pat. But the thermometer is much more desirable. That's one of the reasons I'm not interested in the vapman. The first thing I thought when I saw it was, "that's a supreme without a thermometer."

Does Ed still include a little (toddler?) sock with it? I used two socks (one of my kid's with no match) to bag it. I always bagged it immediately after use and put it in my pocket or in the case I bought. No problem with the hot metal. I only felt a little warmth. With young kids around there was no option to let cool before putting it away.

Ed tells folks his name in email communications. And I can corroborate Kumar's claims. I know it seems like exaggeration, but he is having the same reaction I had years ago. I had tried the volcano a few times before I purchased the SV. My first reaction was, "this blows the volcano away," in regards to my needs. And although it's been a while since I've used a volcano, if memory serves, the hits are much thicker with the SV. But maybe that is more due to bag vs. whip (does anyone know if whip hits are generally thicker?)

This thread needs some love so let's start with a couple pics:

Here's my baby , the tad spoon is the amount of grounded herb I usually put in it.

Let's heat it up!

mmmmmm Milk

I love mine so far , it hits hard :ko: . I don't really have any complaints about it. A solid vape all around and
Ed (the maker) is also a stand up guy. Haven't really had any issues with the heating block,
I think it cools down pretty fast and so far I'm burn free  . Highly recommended.

When I first looked at this i dismissed it immediately cause of the whole external heating element thing. Still did for almost every situation that would suit me, but then I had a revelation:

Supreme+Hot Plate/Holding Unit=EPIC WIN?!

Let me explain:
I'm theorizing that the SV might work quite nicely while resting on a hot plate inside of a custom wood holder that would keep the unit in place while in use. This would make loading and handling much easier IMO, and with the use of a whip I could use this little sucker to turn sounds into colors.
Normally my idea would be too much of a hassle to work with, but my purpose for the use for the SV is unique: I've been looking for a vape for each of the vaping needs I have, and my last conquest was to be a whip vape for comfy chair-based extremely vaked sessions with huge, smooth hits. And LOTS of bud.
Also, I really like wood vapes. I know I pretty much described the SSV, Extreme, etc, but I just don't feel it when looking at them. I might change my mind with time, but for now I'm nursing this scheme :brow:

Does anyone here have any experience using the SV on a stove, and subsequently could relate using a stove to using a hot plate?

Also, what "exactly" is the bowl size of the SV? Or more importantly how potent is a full bowl of the SV?

So excited thinking about making this...:D

Hey Guys
Just recently got one of the supremes for $180 shipped off ebay.
heres a video of it in action:

Review
The first time i got to hit one of these i was instantly hooked and knew i would be purchasing one in the near future. The first thing that i noticed was the flavor. If you hit it with just the bare wood you can get some intense flavors going (especially on low temps). Next thing that hit me was the size of the cloud you get. it was similar to a vrip but had less of an intense head-rushy feeling to it. it also fits nicely onto any tube size with the mouth piece they give you for it. when you hit through a tube, (as you can see in the video) it can white-wall in under 3 seconds. it comes with 3 screens, a mouth piece, 3 small duff containers, extra batteries (for screen), a whip, and a nice torch. it takes about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to heat up (depending on how much flavor/cloud you want) but you should never keep heating it over 300 F. everything on it is medical-grade, so theres no sketchy parts. its an all around amazing vaporizer and an amazing deal for the amount of money your spending on it. i would highly recommend this vaporizer to anyone who vapes.
Overall=5/5
Flavor=5/5
Size of Cloud=5/5
Start-Up Time=4/5
Portability=4/5
Value=5/5

Does the SV retain heat?

I'd be using the SV as a sit in a chair and have a vaping session kinda vape, so not having to heat it up for every hit would be immensely useful. I was thinking of the hot plate idea because I thought it would be needed to keep the temp relatively static, but from what I've seen people can attain that merely using the torch.

Is it possible to get multiple, and good, hits from only one heat-up of the SV?

No, you don't have to reheat for every hit. You heat it, then hit it until it needs to be heated again. If you hit it once and sit for a while before your next hit, you will have to reheat.

Sold.
Don't really have the money to spend on it yet, but I'm getting one when I do.

Still thinking of making that custom wooden holder though as I won't ever have the funds for another bong.
What do you all think of the SV being used in a whip-tastic home unit kind of set up?

I'll definitely use it in that way; thing is the heating element still bothers me. IMO it shouldn't have been that hard to make it more shielded from being touched in areas that don't need direct flame contact. A wooden/metal shell of sorts, surrounding the HE.
I'm clumsy when toasted, so having something to keep the SV securely in place will be a must for me :ko:

I'm generally clumsy and I only (Ha, "only") burned myself a couple of times. Nothing even close to major. But mostly I'd just lay it on the sock if I'm not finished my session and immediately put it in the sock when I'm done.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do :D This vape kicks my ass and has me coming back for more lol I think it's a combination of the "super concentrated" vapor and fufilling my pyro needs with the torch. It's also great on the go. Got to try it in the car before going in to see 2012 a couple weeks back and worked like a charm. Stealthy with the whip and way more inconspicuous then lighting up the VG crack pipe style.

If I recall the manual stated up to 60 minutes of burn time on a tank but surely that's optimistic. The lighter really isn't the important part of the package imo. ;)

If you want a good torch to use with it get yourself a Blazer GB-2001 that'll take care of all your heating needs.

The lighter currently shipped with the Supreme ,as far as i know, is this bad boy. Also found it on dealextreme a month later for 5$ less. It works well enough and it does line up well with the SV so you can kind of let it warm up "hands free" but I'd still rather use the GB :/

sweet. thx for the good information.

azn- please let me know how your material tastes in the supreme compared to other vapes. seems like as the temp rises the flavor declines.
