Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Maybe you have a V1 (original run)?
Who did you order from?
My first run ascent got very hot on the bottom near the bowl at 430.
this new one does not get uncomfortable to hold at 430.

I ordered from the Da Vinci website 2 days ago when they finally opened up sales. I'm not sure how to tell which version I have but it says 1AA200XXXX on the inside. I subbed in the X's obviously just in case i'm supposed to register this or something.

Mine keeps my hands so warm. This would be great to ski with

Warm yes. Uncomfortably hot, no.

edit: after many tin foil prototypes I've managed to make a pretty awesomely preforming design for a bowl cap.
It is a long ridge of foil like this /\------\ with a pinhole in the centre. the foil is folded over several times for added thickness. I've managed to get a number of consistently good clouds with this and a .2 :D. Doesnt seem to affect flavor much, and I dont mind using aluminum, others may have concerns, but vaping is still in the safe cooking temperature zone for foil. The taste is also unaffected by the foil imo, so I dont mind. This design is really preforming well.

Awesome. I haven't tried anything other than a pretty full or mostly full bowl. Use my girls solo for that. My unit does get too hot to hold on the bottom at 430 lol gotta use a glove to open it at that temp, but I never go above 410 and even then Its pretty hot. Its a personal unit so I don't pass it around and hold it where it doesn't get hot with no probe. Outside use now that its cold though really feels great in the hands lol

well, I did some experimenting and the only time I found it uncomfortably hot was when I was gripping it really tightly around the seal/bottom. so maybe thats it? i dont know.
I dont normally hold on so tightly like my life depends on it, so I didnt really notice this. I'd have to really squeeze it. so it seems odd that others are feeling its too hot so easily.

on the other hand my first run ascent WAS too hot to just hold nevermind squeezing on 430. thats why I was thinking @EasyBake had a first run unit. from his serial it looks like a 2nd run (1AA1 was the first).

I find there is really no part (aside from the insides of the bowl) that is too hot to touch on mine otherwise.

Yeah.
Honestly it was just an initial reaction. Disregard it, it really is just"warm" after repeated use. But yeah it's definitely thet 2nd version

My v1.1 had a 1AA1 serial number. My 1.2 has a 1AA2. Dv had said at one point that all ascents had a 1AA1 serial, so it looks like they have ticked it up to 1AA2 for the new ones.

Regarding the serial numbers...even the new ones have 1AA1. Production somehow did a run with duplicate serial number so they switched those to 1AA2. Seems like they could have just changed it...I dunno.

My replacement finally arrived. The silicone at the top of the bowl is poorly aligned. There is overhang. Enough to prevent the load from easily sliding out when it is cashed.

The replacement I just sent back for off gassing started with 1AA1. Does anyone that received their replacement have this or 1AA2?

Edit : Never mind. Didn't see Davinci reply till after I posted.

Are they making you pay for shipping to return the unit a second time? My replacement will be going back to DV. I hope the third time is the charm for me. This is turning into one big joke.

Just got my rma for yet another replacement. Could not get a refund due to it being more then 14 days from purchase of the first unit. That's a good one. Only mentioning this for first time buyers. Make sure you have no issues within 14 days or you're only able to get a replacement. Anyway I hope 3rd times a charm. Am hopeful with all the good reviews from people who know what they are talking about that it will be.

that is NOT what i was told when i reached out to DV. i was told to take my RMA for a test drive and if i was STILL not happy i could get a refund. i was told if the CS Rep refused the refund to come here and reach out to DV and she would make it right

so... back to my experimenting with the bowl size, and the rising puck.... @stickstones i tried cotton and i don't know what i did wrong but i did not get mediacated with a .2 bowl stuffed with cotton. sure the puck stayed where it should because of the cotton but i could get barely any vapor into my lungs. when the time was over, i was not medicated, the puck was thoroughly cooked, and the cotton had changed color a bit near the puck. as i said though, i did not feel a thing.

so i took another .2 and this time used the glass oil can (no lid) as a spacer. this time the puck stayed where it should and i got vapor this time. at the end of the session i was medicated.

still waiting on my glass flower delivery to remedy this situation for smaller bowls.

last night, i again put .2 in the bowl and jammed it down. i always thought my sips were light enough but the puck kept rising. this time i barely pulled.. i put my lips on the straw and just expanded my lungs without "pulling". i was able to get good vapor and keep the puck on the bottom. i will admit taking pulls this lightly is very hard for me. so again... i hope the glass flowers will be my fix for smaller bowl issues.

next experiment (when i re-up) is to completely fill the bowl to the max it can hold. then take a few pulls, turn it off, wait for it to cool down (maybe an hour to really test), then fire it up again to see how bad the taste diminishes. i want to see if i could use it all day without refilling and multiple sessions in the day and see how taste goes bad if it does.

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
Good luck menz, I am really hoping this works for you. We all chase the perfect vape and this one was at the bottom for me except for taste. I know I went though a lot of herb with no medication which was a huge waste of money I don't have.

@mmenzie

I found that I could return to a bowl later no problem. With regards to cotton, if you stuffed it in there then you killed your airflow. Just put a light layer on top, or just enough to lightly fill the bowl and keep the herb from moving. For really small loads or a pinch of kief, I would put cotton in the bottom first, then herb/kief, then more cotton...but your cotton should always be fluffed so you don't choke it like you did last time. I think I am going to like the glass flowers the best...the cotton worked well but I felt like I was sacrificing a little bit of taste.

When I was testing, I didn't have a problem with the rising puck like you are. I could pack a small load tightly and the puck would stay together and hit fine. There is plenty of radiation going on in the bowl, so the puck will still produce if it moves.

thanks for the advice on the cotton... i am sure i put too much in there as you suggest. as for the part i quoted above. it's really strange for me..... when the puck is on the bottom i get great vapor that i can taste, feel, and see. when the puck rises i can tell cause the vapor quality diminishes and i barely get anything. as soon as i open and push it back down the vapor quality goes back up again. so i can actually "tell" without opening the bowl that it has "risen"

It's really kind of odd with the bowl size and with the bud not staying put on the bottom resulting in weak hits. One has to wonder if the Ascent was either designed by someone who's never vaped before, or if it was designed with the idea that everyone was going to fill the bowl to the max. Either way, it's kinda odd, eh?

It's DaVinci, so obviously they have vaped before. I think they were surprised at how much people wanted to do smaller loads.

But why would that be a surprise? It seems like it would be common sense that people would like to use a variety of different size loads, eh?

Way back in June, when the Ascent was first introduced, I suggested that DV offer a "bowl limiter" as an optional accessory in this thread.....post #61 and #66.

the problem is there are not a lot of conduction vapes out there, and they all have big ovens which need to be packed tightly, save the mflb. I don't think the industry as a whole understands this yet. When the Pax came out and had such great success with such an old style of heating, others took note. It's a cheap heating method that is easy to understand and reengineer, but not practiced much. I don't hang out in the Pax thread, but if you do, were there many complaints about bowl size? Because it is bigger than the Ascent's.
