hello all,

sorry for the late report back. i received my replacement unit yesterday while at work and my wife put it on the charger as i reported earlier. i also reported that initial burn-ins showed no offgassing. so after the burn-ins i spent the rest of the night using it.

the unit heats better than my first unit and does not not jump from 390 to 430 like my original did. the battery indicator seems to work better too although i am still not believing it will get 3 or 4 hours out of it. my 3 burn-ins were 8 to 15 min a piece (did not properly time them all) and my battery showed half after they were done.i used it with loads 3 times at 15 min a piece and when done it was down to a 1/3 still a decent battery life but i don't think i will get 3 or 4 hours as advertised

taste was not bad, and i could get "solo like" clouds WHEN i could keep the load at the bottom of the bowl. as i stated i did not get a sombrero and i did not receive the glass flowers i ordered yet. so i spent more time opening the chamber and packing the puck back down then i cared too. i sipped so freaking lightly but the puck still rose to the top and vapor production would stop.

so because of "rising puck" issue even with the easiest of suction, my test of using the water tool adapter with my PNWT was useless. i could not get one solid hit using my PNWT cause no matter how slow and easy i pulled, the puck always rose and vapor stopped.

my biggest issue is this thing is a herb hog!! people say that the bowl holds .3 (if i remember right) i weighed out .4 (which is 2 DBV bowls for me) and ground it up. i then packed half of that .4 in and stuffed it down with the glass oil can. i then put the rest of the .4 in and packed it down again and the bowl was only half filled. i could easily get another .4 or even .5 in there. if i filled the bowl it would use up like 2 1/2 days worth of herb that my DBV or Solo would use. i am a light user so from what i am reading when my glass flowers arrive i may be able to go back to my normal .2 per bowl use again. i cannot do that now

overall i still do "like" the unit. i have not used it enough to see where it fits in my lineup... if it fits at all. i also forgot to recheck for offgassing after i was done. i will do that when i get home from work today.

So i received my replacement stealth ascent last night. The unit looks much better, mainly the oled screen. My original looked as if there was boogers under the screen.
So i threw it on the charger and proceeded to do a few high temp burn offs. There was no visible off gassing but there was a new vape smell emitting from the entire vape.
Next i loaded .25 of well cured grade A nug and tamped it down with an oil jar. Set it to 395 and took a long slow steady draw. Holy shit! This thing was putting off massive clouds. Comparable to my lotus wich performs like a desktop. I was extremely happy and impressed. I love how cool the vapor gets before reaching my lungs.
Will report back when more time is spent with it.

are you using a glass spacer of some sort, the beads or the flowers? If not how are you keeping the hurb from riseing?

For some reason the load never left the bottom. I did stir and repack after 3 massive hits. I wanted to see if was rising but to my suprise it was still in the bottom. Picking up some glass screens today so i can reduce load size.

@mmenzie

I never found the rising puck to be an issue. I feel you on the need for a small load. Have you tried any cotton/hemp yet? Or maybe using the oil can as a spacer?

havent tried cotton yet cause i was not sure if it had to be a certain kind?? does it have to be organic that costs more??

the oil can as a spacer seems like a great idea, but wouldn't the lack of holes in the can stop airflow and there fore not allow vapor up through the straw??

Keep calm and vape on
This thing is making me feel schizophrenic. It is still out gassing. First gassing then getting better then gassing again.. I'm at my wits end with this unit. Emailed Aaron for another replacement or refund. Am willing to try one more replacement as all others seem to have units functioning as they should.

according to vitolo, any cotton with the tree/cotton symbol will do. That's what I was using before switching to hemp fiber.

i have some cotton with the cotton symbol on it but i new it was not "organic" cause i remember buying the package and seeing the organic next to it and saying to myself "what is so special about that cotton that i need to pay 5 bucks more than the other"? so i guess it is safe to try that.

what is this hemp fiber you speak of?? can i get it at a brick and mortar store or must i search for it online??

I got mine from Alan, who buys it in bulk for himself. I like it better than cotton. My apologies for derailing here...back to the Ascent!

Received mine yesterday so far battery came with half a charge so far no off gassing no horrible smell didn't even have to do an initial burn off just packed right when I got it and has worked great since and I have had plenty of success with barlely packing anything in there and getting huge clouds and I'm not using anytype of spacer or weight

Hey guys. Just wanted to say hi and share my experience. My new ascent arrived yesterday (replacement from an old one that didn't heat up), and this thing is a beast. No off gassing at all, no smell it blows clouds with no effort. Haven't had to use any glass flowers and everything in it capped very evenly. I did use the puck version by mashing it all down with the glass, and I do pack it full. My session lasted about 30 minutes and the battery isn't even to half used yet. Its ref a quality issue I think since all of you aren't getting the same effects from the new one. I mean it blows my solo AND extreme q out the window. I got the wrong style but there's no way I'm sending it back to try my luck at getting another one that handles as good as this one. It sucks you guys aren't getting the same results. There must be so many components mixed into the unit that there are too many variables to get a similar effect out of every unit maybe.... who knows, but I know I'm finally beyond happy with it and from the ship backs, I got a ton of free glass stems, jars and adapters lol. Good luck with everyone else units!

Should note that I have had the puck raise from the bowl a few times but once you learn how to use it you will have nothing but success with it you just have to draw really slow and lite almost to the point where it doesn't feel like your hitting it

I did test with mine with and without the puck. If its loose, you're ref gonna get it in your mouth. I jammed my puck down pretty hard and it let me draw as fast as I wanted without getting anything in my mouth. I did however fill the bowl full before I made the puck, so I'm betting it was just pressed down harder.

OF...are you having to fish through your abv to retrieve the glass flower screens?

I know @OF has replied, but wanted to throw :2c: in. Ever since getting the glass flowers, that what I've been using. I do usually go for smaller loads, so I probably have more mass/displacement in glass flower than real (grind) flower. :) But it is no issue to quickly pick out the flower from ABV, and the stems help a bit as handles (the length of stem > diameter of flower).

When I first started using the glass flowers, I tried to be precise about the placement. Now I just throw a bunch in the bottom, real flower on top, then jam glass flowers into the real flower on top. I'm more careful about the top layer, trying to get stem side down, not only to help with heat dispersion, but also because I broke one of the stems that was pointing up when I opened the bowl one time.

But this has been 100% load/unload at home. (If I'm going out, I'll pre-load and maybe use a bit more.) It hasn't been an issue. I worry a bit about doing this out and about, as it might be more difficult to do on the go (no table, drop a glass flower, etc).

I'll be doing quite a bit of "out and about" testing in the next few days.

so because of "rising puck" issue

I've been using the unit for quite some time, and the first solution I settled on was to pack the *F* out of the flower using the oil can. Did that for quite some time. I almost never had an issue with the puck rising, in fact often I'd have to use a poker to break it up to dump it out. (In hind sight, that probably wasn't the best solution as it impeded airflow THROUGH the product). I wonder what the difference between the people that have levitating puck issues and those that don't? Maybe it's the real flower itself? (moisture, tackiness, etc)

am a light user so from what i am reading when my glass flowers arrive i may be able to go back to my normal .2 per bowl use again.

I still can't find my damn scale and am not good at approximations, but I usually go for smaller loads too, and flowers work great.

the oil can as a spacer seems like a great idea, but wouldn't the lack of holes in the can stop airflow and there fore not allow vapor up through the straw??

My *second* solution was, as I was already using the oil can for compression, to just leave the thing in there. You have to use a little less to be able to close it sometimes, but that worked pretty well, most likely due to so much direct exposure to glass surface. The airflow is not stopped, just more specifically channeled through the product.

The glass flowers trump this, however.

Good stuff. I wonder how much of the 'floating puck' bit is the but itself? That is cure, grind and 'sticky' stuff playing a key role?

I think there's a big variation in the herb we use?

Doesn't mean your unit won't function as it should with off-gassing. I personally would never vape from any unit that off-gasses, but that doesn't mean someone else won't be happy just ignoring it.

Sounds like the glass flowers are working well. I would rather use those than cotton. What I used to do was put a thin layer of cotton on top of the load and it would keep the glass stems crystal clean. Maybe you could do this when out and about and you don't want to worry about the glass flowers when you dump it out. I used to wrap a nugget in cotton and stick in there as well. This was very nice when running around...it's easy to throw away and load another one if you pre-wrap them for the trip.

I failed to mention above that I tired cotton also, but quickly stopped as it was becoming discolored. As discussed previously, the burning temp for cotton is way high (and this is pure cotton), so it isn't the cotton, but rather I presumed it was collecting stuff I might otherwise want inside of me. ;)

I guess the glass collects stuff too as it condenses and sticks to walls, but I felt (correctly or incorrectly) that the cotton on top was filtering out good stuff.

But, yeah, for "out and about" maybe that's a small price to pay for the connivence.

Oh, and who knew that carrying cotton balls around are now "paraphernalia". :p

EDIT: Oh, and cotton won't have the same thermal retention/mitigation as glass, but again, if it makes on-the-go easier...

I think another big advantage of the glass pieces is their ability to store heat. My tests showed that the load his hottest just before you hit, the longer and harder you hit the cooler the center gets. By putting lots of hot glass with lots of surface area spread throughout the load I think this is where a lot of the heat energy making vapor in the hit comes from. Cotton would not give that boost, although it too would reduce the weight of herb needed for a bowl full.

For whatever reason, I think it's a simple thing to try and seems to be successful in some things. Like Chicken Soup, "can't hurt, might help"?
