Speaking of Sherlock Holmes, we just started selling J Hooks from Zion glass, soon after you bought your Lotus. Then you'll need a double brimmed cap.

Even if the J hook would seem to be the obvious choice for an aspiring detective, some of the first portraits of the fictional hero show him holding a straight pipe and not a curved one, thus I feel fine with my image! :p Double brimmed cap will come out soon as the weather gets chillier...

Jokes aside, I'd love to get me a J hook as well as a Hot Plate replacement kit (where is it on the site?) but you need to give us poor Europeans some more affordable shipping options or just find a retailer that can do that. I mean, I had to pay 40$ for 4 pipes shipped in a small padded envelope, not even a box... Not to mention the customs taxes cause you do not mark it as a gift or a replacement accessory or something.
Next time I might thing of ordering from you guys I need to find someone willing to order for me and ship it properly... :\

Our EU retailer is http://verdampftnochmal.de/
I am sorry that you received your order in a padded envelope. I guarantee you that it was shipped to you in a cardboard box. We always use a box for anything more than a single piece; lighter, stem, etc. You can probably thank Customs for the padded envelope.
Regarding Customs tax, we also always claim our shipments as merchandise with the correct value. I have no desire to get in a row with Customs.
You may want to get a J hook within the EU, with shipping and tariff being so expensive. Black Leaf has a decent J Hook and is sold from Germany.
We still don't have the Hot Plate replacement kit on the website. Coming soon.

Well, it's your shop... I am just the customer and I am telling you it's not a nice situation for Europeans... And if verdampft is your dealer in Europe it would be nice if they carried the whole spectrum of your products and had some nice deals from time to time... Right now they are just expensive and they only carry a kit and the pipe. The rest is missing...

Just make a couple of more deals with shops from Canada, US and Europe... Add some variety for the customers. Aren't you seeing some higher demand these days? The new products kick ass and we are doing our best to spread the word around here. Lotus should be up there in sales with the MFLB...
All is missing IMHO is some marketing and a better distribution network. This thing could fly! It has so many advantages over the top selling vapes out there that it's mind bogging why it hasn't caught up yet!!!

12,5mm is loose yes. I have tried such screens. 0,5'' is 12,7mm and is still loose I guess... Should I look for 0,625'' or 5/8''? @Max Jitter I live in Greece so sending a stamped envelope to the USA might be more pricey than ordering a big number of them from somewhere else... :\
Just thought I would comment on the screens. I have a load of Amazed Pipe screens and they fit really nicely. Have used one in the WPA and one in the stem on top of the stock ones for a double screen setup....noticed quite bit of particulate coming through with just the one stock screen.

You can get amazed pipe screens at plenty of places, here is one of them: http://www.everyonedoesit.com/onlin...less-steel-gauzes---125mm.cfm?iProductID=5138

It says they are 12.5mm but they aren't loose in my Lotus bowls. I have not tried them on their own though, because, as I mentioned I am using them on top of the stock screens...

I think I have both sizes of Red Eye screens from EDIT... ;)

12,5mm ones are loose when used on their own and 16,5mm ones are just too big and dome too much... :(

I believe the one I am using right now is a left over Solo screen from PV. They are slightly oversized and dome perfectly in the Lotus.

EDIT also carries Titanium ones now at 12,5mm and 16mm and judging from the photos they are pre-domed. Meaning the 12,5mm one if slightly flattened could be an amazing fit... :\ Maybe I try one in the future if I can afford an order from EDIT... I also wonder if those Basil screens at 15mm dome well... They could you know... :\

You just reminded me that I have some of these! I just tried one and they dome really nicely in the Lotus bowl and are a little bit finer than the stock ones. So you may have found your winner there @natural farmer :D

Also, slightly off topic...they fit perfectly in the Solo heating chamber, to stop the bottom getting all gunked up!

That's awesome mate!!! Thanks a lot!!! I guess they are sturdier too right? The original Lotus screens are so frail...

Hey guys, noob here, been stalking this thread...Looking at the Lotus as my first vaporizer. I'm familiar with using pipes and have watched the videos, so I'm confident I could operate it well. Seems like a good, cheap, and fun option.

I've read through the last few pages, but could anyone elaborate on the differences between the straight stem and the j-pipe? Are there any particular advantages to either for an amateur like myself?

I'll be using it in private 95% of the time. I smoke like twice a week, so I don't need super huge hits or anything...I suspect I might actually get too high from this the first few times. The other vape I've been looking at is the Solo.

Thanks for your help! Apologies if I should have posted this in the Ask FC forum, this just seems like the place to get in touch with the Lotus people :)

Side note: anyone know anything about the standard aluminum grinder you can get with an order at Vaperstore? Is it good?

Hi @cosmonaut! I don't own a J-hook yet but using some common logic drives me to the following facts:

1) The straight stem is preferable if you need to hold it in your pocket or small pouch (Ryot case in my case...:p) as it won't break accidentally.
2) The J-hook will give you cooler hits, less debris in your mouth (cause of the curvature) and more style...
3) The J-hook will mandate that you use the WA, which has a better airflow (bigger hole under the screen) and I have found to avoid charring easier when using it...
4) The straight stem, especially the long one, can be used very effectively for self defense as you can stab someone very effectively!
5) The J-hook though, if broken can also stab someone but you will be left without a pipe...

As for comparing the Lotus to the Solo:

1) The Solo has zero learning curve so sharing it with friends who never used it before is easier.
2) The Lotus offers more freedom. I wouldn't go for an outdoor adventure for more than a couple of days with the Solo...
3) The Lotus will give you faster sessions. Going for a pee in the toilet and having a Lotus session in less than 2 minutes is as easy as 1-2-3.
4) Due to the possible shorter sessions Lotus can be gentler to your throat and teeth as they are exposed to high temps for shorter periods. Not so sure if you care about that though due to your use frequency (for better or worst vaping will most probably drive you to use cannabis more. It is so much more enjoying than smoking that it can get you there. If you have the herbs then it's great!)
5) The Solo might be a better choice if your herbs are not of so good quality and can't handle high temps. Lotus will char a week flower easier than the Solo. Needs some careful flame usage there...
6) With good herbs Lotus for me is just a better overall experience. Faster, bigger hits an lots of style!!! More durable too!!!

Feel free to ask anything else! I hope I covered some holes... :)

Thanks for such a thorough response! I guess my only other question would be, which one is easier to maintain? Would also be interested in the j-hook vs. straight stem comparison for that...basically, I don't know that much about piece maintenance and don't want to have to be tinkering/cleaning the thing all the time. Read something earlier about how the j-hook accumulated a bunch of resin pretty quickly, so that's not ideal.

Other than that, sounds like the j-hook might be better actually...plus I could put a bit of water in it.

Both the Solo and Lotus are two of the easiest vapes to keep clean and well maintained...

The pipe might be easier for me to clean than a j-hook as it only needs a bit of ISO soaking in a small shot glass and a common long pipe cleaner. The j-hook would need some ISO + salt shaking and it's just more bothersome for me. You also end up spending more ISO and cannot reclaim due to the salt... The differences are small and you should not mind them a lot though. Just choose what would be the best option for your using habits. Or better both...;) I am sure I would love to rotate! :D

Hey @cosmonaut... Following up on my advices I have to take back that comment about easier control with the WA... The truth is, that by using the pipe and my mouth as a sensor, I can better control the temps than by using my eyes as a sensor with my Ehle bong. I believe this could also be the case with the J hook except if it doesn't actually cool the vapor more. I had made that deduction from previous comments about the J hook cooling better... :\

So get the pipe for sure AFAIK and get the J hook as an extra... I would love others with both the pipe and J-hook to chime in! :)

My Lotus came in today, crazy fast shipping!! Three HUGE cloud producing hits into my ownership of the Lotus and I had found my "stride", this thing is absolutely brilliant! I can't even believe how well designed it is, amazingly simple to use, and HUGE clouds! The instructions were clear, brief, and easily understood, something I really appreciate! I tried the stem and J-hook tonight, and will try it with water tomorrow before work. But I should mention that this will be coming with me to work as well :spliff:
The taste was fantastic and did I mention HUGE clouds:science: Seriously though, great job on this one guys!

I suppose if I had to come up with something negative to say about the Lotus package, it would be the J-Hook, it's a bit more thin than glass I usually buy, but it's a non-issue since I don't plan to take it out of the house, and am a pretty careful guy. But overall this is an amazing vaporizer that anyone who finds themselves fucking combustion should definitely own, it's one for the books!

i personally like the design of the jhook, as well as being able to see the vapor passing through but the durability & elegant solidness of the stem sure is nice too. i enjoy using both. don't think there is any significant cooling advantage although one could use the jhook as a mini bubbler http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-lotus-vaporizer.2595/page-32

@natural farmer
yes, i also like the fact that the Lotus can be used as a instrument of peace, or a weapon of war!
