I've been keeping my SR-71 full with reclaim from my Sublimator. It's nice and smooth.
Looking foreward to getting the black rod for use with one 18350 in a ss Persei.
For those who have used it: does the black rod produce monster hits like the white one?

Does anybody have any tips/tricks/hints for proper Herc coil care?
Coil seems to get sticky with wax(I guess that's obvious), then the little coil "handle" thing is not strong enough when I try to pull out the coil. Is this common or am I just doing it wrong? I hate to just gouge away with my pick tool to pull up the coil, seems like coil would lose shape/break apart after doing that a few times. Appreciate any ideas, I am new to the Persei/Herc combo and just need to refine a few things that aren't to clearly mentioned in the manual/on the website.

I have ruined two coils by pulling them out carelessly. They get stretched and useless. I learned the hard way that you want to remove that coil only when the machine is hot so the hash isn't too sticky. I basically never take the coil out. I leave it in that piece of the chamber when I clean the machine.

The coil pulls or "slides" out a lot easier when the whole assembly is slightly warm from recent usage. My handle came off the coil on the first go when I tried to pull it out cold and of course it was stuck to the walls/ceramic rod, and now I just use a flat tipped dabber to slowly work the coil out without spreading its layers, if that makes any sense. If you had a tool that could get in there with a wider tip instead of a wax carver/dental pick style, that would be my suggestion. Overall I think having it slightly warm before any manipulation helps the most.

I'm guessing it would come out a little easier if it were still warm. I've taken a loaded coil out cold and it unraveled and fell apart :(

I'm curious to see what tips others might have.

Vaping is a way of life!
You might want to heat the unit up slightly by powering or even a lighter on the outside to allow the cart to warmup , that allowing the coil to be pulled out without ruining it.
The little handle comes out easily, so in this case just reinsert it backwards into the coil, slide the top handle part first into the bottom of cool till feet catch the bottom.
I also fashioned a paper clip with a small "L" <-------- bend that fits in the oil coil hole, and i pull oil coil out that way ...........with the sturdiness of the paper clip works every time.

The new Iris will have a 35 watt limit.

But the final numbers will be available once we finish the design.

Cool. Thanks. As of now, 5.25 is just outside the ratings on all the Persei tops, right? They're 5.0 due to the switch?

5%'s not much, but if it's over the line, it's over. I just assumed (yeah, I know....) Iris will be more exacting here.....

If the voltage is constant under load and there is no drop yes it's over the limit on published limits.

In fact even when using the core it hardly sees a 5.25 for more then 1 second.

I know it was covered, but having the chamber be warm is 99% of the solution. The other part is having the right tool for the right job. Thats why I bought a set of these off of Amazon for $9 w/ free Prime shipping (search for "wax carving tool kit"):

Now I don't use most of the tools that it came with, but for removing the coils I find that the tools on the right with the hooks work flawlessly. I can easily fit the hook down into the middle of the coil, attach the tip of the hook somewhere half way down, and lift the coil out without worry of something snagging or sticking, causing my coil to get stretched out.

Shit... just for that ONE tool, it was worth the nine bucks, but some of the other tools work well for dealing with concentrates too (cutting, scraping, etc.)! Plus its all stainless steel so no worries about boiling them (or putting them in the autoclave at work.... if someone was inclined to do such a thing). Also sure this stuff could be used to dab, etc... but it WAS made in India, and only cost 9 bucks for a set of 12... so take that for what its worth.

im gonna load her up, set it to 5.8 and fire away. My understanding is that at this voltage, I can hold the button with no worries of overheating. I obviously still need to cool it off between use.

also any tips to avoid leaks. My last herc use leaked out the bottom badly. i think I have it all tight now though

There are tolerance levels for the rod so you might need to work around that to find the sweet spot.

These are just guidelines not set in stone requirements.

Im actually more impressed with the herc at 6 volts. Its not lung busting clouds, but they are nice clean tasty rips that still leave me coughing after a couple. I dont think I am going to go back to 7.4 unless I have super stable shatters
