Stainless steel slide in vs dimple?

Anyone have a preference? I have been using a 5/16 stainless stem with my Underdog and have REALLY been enjoying how conservative it is (and how dark I can roast SMALL loads...something that I struggled with in 3/8 ID stems).

The dimple seems like it it would be a pain to change the screen (I assume it is the same type of c-clip/screen combo like old Zap stems and the new Underdog stems). I have found that a clean and flowing screen is crucial to avoid combustion.

The slide-in SS tip looks great in that it is easily serviceable. Do the SS pieces stay together well? Any downsides?

Anything I haven't considered? It seems like every SS tip photo in this thread is the dimple. What am I missing?

Thanks, JedHIs!

EDIT: The two stainless steel tips that I'm talking about are listed on the HI/Toasty Top shop page: http://toasty-top.com/shop.html

Someone was borrowing my hi(that week was tough ) and I got it back today. First time I paired it with the mobius ion m I got over the weekend.
Incredible.. They are great together !
Perfect size for my blood wood.
Damn I love this vape :)

Dafni - I don't spend as much time on here as I should. No worries, I will keep making HI's for as long as I can. If they strike me down, I will become more powerful than they can possibly imagine.

Thanks Mom. You are so correct.

Dr. P - Glad to hear you are enjoying your HI. Keep up the JedHI training and you will soon be a master.

Jam - Love the HI and Dry. Thanks for posting the photos.

ghost>boogie on - Glad to hear it arrived safely and you are pulling nice clouds. Thanks so much.

I_wanted_truth - Changing the screen in the dimple tips is not too bad. I don't use any clips. The screen just slides down until it stops at the dimple. The key is keeping the screen flat from the start and using a 1/4" flat end rod to push the 1/4" screen all the way down. The air flow is only restricted by the dimple.
The screen in the slide-in tip is 5/16" and captured in the coupling so it can't be dislodged. The air flow is just slightly better since there is no restriction at the screen. The tubing comes apart with a twist and a pull. There are no loose parts or anything to loose with the dimple style. My preference is the dimple style since it is a more simple design. I may have never made the slide-in style if I had made the dimple style first.

DaProfessor - That wood looks great. It should make some fabulous HI's. Can't wait to start cutting it up.

Mrmrmrmr - I always enjoy using a Mobius when I get a chance.

I am planning another road trip next weekend. This one is also spin top related. I will be in Chico California for the National Spin Top Championship. Will be hanging out in the city park on the 5th of October if anyone wants to stop by. Sorry if it takes away from HI production time.

PALE BLUE DOT
Thanks placetime. There is really nothing to see. Just an empty tube. Holes drilled in the side of the center tube base for the air path. Very simple. Very little drag.

The heating element is just my standard thread in design.
Alan I really like your VAPE.

Once I place my order how much time should I suspect?

I will most likely use a water path.
What fitting do I need to order?

Thank you!

Kind regards,
ataxian

Most people have been told ~6 months from when you're on the list but it seems production has sped up.
The 14mm GonG that he makes would be prefect, and just use a reducer in 18mm pieces.
You can also get his Wood-on-Glass adapters, possibly even made from the same piece of wood!

To add to this post, the u-tube is also a great, "do it all" connector for the HI. Takes a bit of practice and I find it works better in the "barbell" setup (see post #4031), but it allows for you to connect to any type of stem (14 or 18, male or female).

When I need to get some more screens, I'll pick up a 14mm GonG adapter and run it next to the U-tube to see which one is the better hitter.

With that said, the u-tube has grown on me a ton. I really can't credit mvapes enough though, the barbell is just so effective. Much better I find than the u-tube on it's own.

Hey I found this 12v battery pack that might work with the HI. What do you guys think?

http://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Li-po-Battery-CCTV-6800mAh/dp/B00BUIU2RM

It's even LiPo so it should be lighter than the standard Li Ion pack. The plug might eveb fit perfect, if not we could always solder on a different tip. I'm more concerned on the output current, though the HI dosen't demand nearly as much current as other portable vapes such as the Solo and MFLB.

It will work, but the voltage output is unregulated. The voltage delivered to the HI will decrease as the battery is depleted.
