i just got the package from 7th floor, tomorrow the hakko comes in, but im still waiting for the temp control to ship. im hopefully going to start building this weekend, and ill be taking pictures along the way
edit: oh sweet the temp controll did ship, so im going to have all the parts before the weekend, ill probably start building it sunday

i just made some changed to my design that i think have perfected it without the need for dremeling, i need to order another heater cover however, which i plan to do within the next 2 weeks. when i get it i will take pictures and write a guide of the assembly, with no dremeling (maybe some if you already have a dremel, but its not a vital tool)

so how many people have one of these now? and what are your opinions on it to those who tried the ssv before? if you haven't tried the ssv, id still like to hear from you guys. im tempted to give it a shot, it looks like it will probably cost me 120 ( cant seem to find the hakko for under 50(plus exchange rate as im canadian( my local hardware store doesn't have it, but there are 2 others im going to check out))). i was going to save up for the DBV and get it probably late august, but this def caught my eye now.
*for those wondering why i ask for the comparision to the SSV, i use to own one and been told many times the dbv ceramic heat element is very similair(if not the same) element and knowing the difference between this wand and the SSV will help me decide*

the wand has a more owerful element (twice the wattage) and it hits very well, overall i would say that it is worth it for ssv hits at less than dbv price, the overall setup of the control circuitry is almost identical to the ssv setup, but due to the larger element (more heat produced, and more surface area to radiate that heat) it is very forgiving with hit technique
i think another big advantage this setup has over the 7th floor units is that it can be easily and conveniently used as a direct on bong vape, as well as a whip vape with 7th floors glass. it is also pretty portable if you have a case or padded bag
i reccomend getting a microphone stand for it, ive been using a desk sized one as a stand and it works well for whip hits, or just for someplace to set it while not in use or while loading a bowl
im also confident that my design mods will be easily reproducible, and there isnt much construction labor

With all the little extra modifications AoZ has done to this homemade, it puts my beta unit to shame...and I was still in love with mine! God knows what it would have been like at its peak.
no joke...make this homemade vaporizer. I don't get why people buy SSV's or DBV's for all that extra money when this thing has a bigger heating element

thanks hen. how often you using yours? looks like i have to do this! gonna take a month or so cuz im broke but ill get the screws tubing and mini phaser if i can find it around me. then get the heater cover and iron in a month or so. my buddy has a dremel so it wont take to long to make. how much energry you think this uses haha? certainly not $8 a year like the PD.

o hen, now your making me not want to buy it! haha just kidding. the only problem for me is im in canada and the exchange rate plus S&H is going to jack up the place. the mini phaser seems to be $22.99 CAD on ebay plus 8$ for shipping, thats going to be around $35 with tax. the soldering iron seems to be $53 USD plus exchange rate and tax and S&H its going to be around $70-80 CAD. thats $105. plus the heat cover is $15 USD so probably around $25 CAD. $130. plus tubing and screws. at least $50 more then the $80 USD price.

best of luck...and when AoZ gets the rest of his parts this will be less confusing because he said something about a small write up on a how-to with the homemade hakko. He said he had sumthin' in the works.

well im going mix this up a little bit. instead of the mini phaser, im going to use a rotary light switch. i think im going to try to find a different soldering iron with a ceramic element around me as well. its not going to look exactly like the original, but it should be close.

my setup cost me 135, but i opted to get an ssv wand to use it as a whip vape while im saving for my future ehle purchase (and some other unforeseen problems)
heater cover will probably be on the way mon, i gotta find the serial cable for my dinosaur of a digicam so i can get the good people of fc a decent look at the build process

So I pulled apart the SSV today to see if it would be possible to switch out the heater to the 60w which is in the Hakko (the heater itself is part number A1177, available from Tequipment). I thought I would find a simple rheostat which I could check the wattage on, but there is a lot more stuff in there than I was expecting (looked like voltage regulator, resistors, and capacitors). There probably would be room to just replace everything with the mini phaser, but I was bummed I couldn't have a quick change over to the nice heater with the SSV form factor (which I much prefer over a wand and bong setup just for minimal paraphernalia).
Anyone try this ridiculous change over? I know, just build what was purposed here, but I really like the SSV setup and just want to be able to draw faster.

I think you should be asking yourself a different question...Does the 7th floor sell empty SSV bodies so we can fully call this a SSV clone 
I like the angle of the ssv...would be dope to get a modded model going
