In his defense, the international peeps can't buy the real thing because Ploom only sells to the US... they need more international emails requesting their product!

But Paka does bring up the materials safety issue (with due cause IMO) I'd like to think anyone reading this thread should have enough info by now to make an informed decision

So I had some hash wax and decided to just throw it in the pax by itself and smoke it. It ended up working quick and great! The only bad thing was that it made it really messy inside. After a nice cleaning it came out good as new though. It really surprised me how messy it got inside though, even the mouthpiece had wax inside of it, my first pipe that I ran through it came out really black and gooey lol
I recommend it to anyone that doesnt mind cleaning it after each single use only

Hello, I would like to share some views of mine on the Pax. I've owned it for 6 months now and used it heavily for that time. I've been using it medicinally and i would definitely recommend it, but not in the UK because of the lack of warranty.

Over long time use some things that have frustrated me and made me look at using other vaporizers are:
1. The mouthpiece issue.
2. If you drop it, and your herb spills. (I know this is my own fault but my condition leaves me clumsy)
3. Red flash of death.

Please let me explain these problems;

Everyone knows the issue with it not recognizing the mouthpiece, I clean it daily, and i use various inter-dental brushes and wipe them with alcohol wipes, use ISO to clean it. Let it dry and then lube it. Sometimes i go without this issue for months, and sometimes i can't stop it. A quick fix i found is just pushing the mouthpiece in slightly, its frustrating if your out and about though...

Yeah I'm a bit daft, but it really frustrates me when i drop my Pax a foot from the couch on to my rug, and i loose my mixture. It doesn't take much to loosen the oven lid.

Sometimes when i take it off charge, leave the house in a hurry, try my Pax later and it just flashes red and dies from being fully charged. It seems that it takes a few goes putting in the dock to reset this, but it is frustrating, in fact its become so much of a problem that I'm often leaving my Pax at home.

Apart from those problems though, i love the Pax. It's the best for flavour out of the vapes i have tried and you can get pretty good vape clouds. I think everyone has a way of getting huge vape from these, but my way is only using a tiny amount, like what the Vapman uses. The bowl doesn't last long but you sure do get results.

Also i have tried a fake, they don't seem to get the same results. I don't know if this is due to heat or material or what, the clouds are not as big. Will try a newer version soon and see if they have changed at all. Benefits is 12 months warranty and considerably cheaper... Wouldn't choose a fake over my Iolite or Vapman though.

I've followed this thread since it began and I don't recall anyone describing this "red flash" issue before.

Using a small load will help you get slightly better flavour since it will be done before it's had a chance to sit and cook for a while; however, if the Pax gives the best flavour of all the vapourizers you've ever tasted then you really need to try more vapourizers.

Indeed I do, i'm not going to deny it. There is much out there on the market to explore and I'm barely scratching the surface.

I'm surprised you think it tastes better than your Vapman.

This could be because you're using a small load and the initial hits on a Pax aren't that bad. There is a faint plastic taste from the mouthpiece but apparently lots of people don't notice it. All constant-heat vapourizers that have any significant amount of conduction will suffer from degrading flavour as the session progresses. The Pax is almost 100% conduction and is therefore designed to destroy the flavour of apply heat to as much of the load as possible. The instructions to pack it tightly compound the problem. (Sorry about the pun.)

I agree with the small load, over a long tight bowl it just sucks...

The Vapman tastes great, but it has a wooden taste, like what i would expect from an aged bottle of scotch. It's not a bad taste, but it's not pure.

I'm not sure what to try next. I like compact vapes that just work with little attention, so i can concentrate on medicating, rather than trying to get my vaporizer to work. Trying to find the correct vaporizer which is a good performer on all fronts is tricky...

Great post, you reminded me of one of the best days I think I've had posting here:
Enough battery swaps and battery-powered chargers, today I'm going back to pictures!

OicIE.jpg

mmm hash plant hash
cZLGo.jpg

ELaWY.jpg

a full bowl
LpXmF.jpg

Turned out to be very sticky, taste was typical hash taste (pretty earthy)
sWkrH.jpg

It was oily but dumped easily enough
ATfWH.jpg

8TIXq.jpg

It didn't crumble like I thought it would, so it probably has lots of thc still in there
7B2MT.jpg

Reloaded for round 2!
bb2Jy.jpg

Didn't dump out so easily this time
lbqqH.jpg

JXoKX.jpg

The plate got a bit dirty but not too bad for how resiny it was!
LTWgG.jpg

But instead of cleaning the Pax (because I rarely do) let's try a herbal remedy
ExAa9.jpg

This should get the hash taste out nicely
DKMOY.jpg

Zoom In, this is a nice one!
4tyDH.jpg

Taste was almost as good as flower! much better than the hash
fAOf6.jpg

Abv is milk chocolate, ignore the hair, that came after I dumped the bowl lol
t1KEg.jpg

And still the Pax can be cleaned with a paperclip/toothpick/etc.
sLGDa.jpg

Let's see a convection vape do that
Make sure to check out that kief bowl pic, it's so beautiful I used it as my avatar!

Hi Guys!

2 month Pax user here... Finally figured out all the basic "issues" that most users have at first with Pax, but I've run into a new one.

So, I turn on Pax (clean or not), it flashes purple for a while, and goes to Green. Ready to go... then, as I inhale, the green light turns back to "flashing purple" indicating heating up. I assume this is because as I draw air in, it cools the heating oven, and has to heat up again. It is not staying green the entire time (and it did before).

So, issue is, it is not staying hot enough to stay green, and I can't get vapor, as it keeps switching to "heating mode" despite it getting to ready-stage green.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Halp! Thanks in advance...

Does it go to the temp color before turning purple? Maybe the mouthpiece is just not making contact (common issue)

But if it goes green and then goes back to purple for more than 10s that doesn't sound like it's working properly to me, and if it made it to green first (even when it goes purple) you should be getting vapor.

Mouthpiece troubles, have to clean it and possibly apply lube..

Hey peepz, I havent checked the Pax thread in a minute but I just ordered the Pinnacle WT and was wondering for those with one, how do you guys connect to it with the Pax? I was thinking of just using the tubing I got but I gotta see if it fits the 14mm joint since I used it for 18mm joints previously.

Yeah I use the 5/8" OD and 1/2" ID silicone tubing as well for the Pax, but it does only fit in 18mm GonG's.

For 14mm GonG (and to fit over pen vape mouthpieces like the Dabbler) I use the smaller 3/8" ID and 1/2" OD tubing, but you notice the ID of the big tubing matches the OD of the little tubing so you can just use a section of smaller tubing inserted into the large tubing you have already

Thanks,

Yeah, I've been cleaning it... but maybe I need to do a better job. I probably need to keep that lubricant handy when I go out.

It seems like there is a lot of maintenance, which has been the most disappointing part. It always seems to freeze up at the wrong time too... like when I boot it up at a show. Nothing worse than trying to figure out why it won't come off Red-mode in the dark at a concert when your buddies are waiting to "try out that new awesome portable vape"... (Yes, since figured out that 4 of 5 times, stickiness on mouthpiece is the culprit.) But still... having to clean it every few days is a chore.

I do about 4-5 ovens a day on it, so not exactly a light user.

Thanks... it goes green, if I don't inhale (and just leave it) it will stay green. As soon as I start inhaling, after about 5 secs, it goes back to "heating mode" (aka, pulsating purple).

Too much airflow perhaps?

Probably more like not enough heat, I'm pretty sure if the temp light/cleaning was the issue you would have to see the temp color for it to cool down enough to turn purple. Mine can go temp light orange in the middle of a hit, but I push it and it will go back to green.

And the flashing red isn't a normal thing either, I think you should go to Ploom live chat and tell them it's flashing red after being charged fully, they should get you a new one.

Side question regarding the lub... are there any other solutions for that lube?

I'm assuming it's some food based lubricant that's probably easy to get.

I just ordered the Pinnacle WT and was wondering for those with one, how do you guys connect to it with the Pax?

My water tube came with a PonG adapter that works great. I use EDIT:3/8" 1/2" ID tubing to connect it to the Pax mouthpiece:
PICT1288.jpg

The PonG is nice because it gives you something (that plastic lip) to hold onto when you pull the tube.

The two almost look like they were made for each other :D:

EDIT: By the way, I LOVE this combo.

Looks like sex to me :p

edit: just ordered my 3/8 tubing. Both the WT and tubing should be here next week so I can try it out. The PonG looks to be very helpful. Does it add any extra weird taste?

GAH!

I should have double-checked before posting. It is 1/2" ID hose that fits over the mouthpiece, not 3/8" ID.

EDIT: I'm sorry you ordered 3/8" tubing, I think you posted that as I was posting this. I feel terrible, my memory was just bad. Any way you can cancel the order?

I don't notice a weird taste from the PonG, but I am not very sensitive to tastes unless they are hit you in the face obvious. It's also the only way I've ever used he WT, so I don't know how it is without it.

No, what I have is 1/2" ID and 5/8" OD. It fits over both the PonG end and the Pax mouthpiece.

When I said 3/8" it was just total bad memory.

EDIT: I actually have some of that 3/8" ID tubing that you ordered, and it stretches enough that it does work. I just tried it. The 1/2" ID stuff I am using is not the high temp and is stiffer.
