Yes you should. You don't need a grinder. Make sure your material is dry, then put some into a small closed container along with a quarter. (I use pill bottles.) Shake for a minute or until "ground" to your taste.

Never, ever tried that! Learn something new everyday...thx! And what level of "ground product" does the Pax prefer?

My experience with the Solo has actually made me appreciate my Pax even more!

I used to smoke and I still enjoy a strong effect, thus my tolerance is not small. I used to think the best solution was to buy cheap <$150 ounces of mids and just pack the Pax full and tight, like 0.6-0.8g. But those cheap ounces are hit or miss at best, and I craved top shelf flavor.

So I tried the FV, and more recently the Solo. The FV was a heavier hitter than the Solo, but neither could replace the potency of my Pax. The thing I liked about both of them is that I used 0.2g per sesh or less, so I could afford tastier herbs! I started to get used to the thinner vapor, but I thought, there's no reason the Pax shouldn't be able to do this with 0.15 - 0.2g bowls... So I cleaned up my Pax, bought some topshelf, and used a screen to hold the smaller bowl tight against the screen; great success! Delicious, thick, potent vapor!

Long story short:
Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a while and i really want to thank you all for the quality of the forum. I've thought to make my firt post here because I know there's a lot complains about the pax beeing a hog (which is actally true) and i wanted to share my remedy, which i find to work really fine. I don't know if this has been already fully covered cause i haven't read all the thread. What i do is i simply use a normal pipe screen molded to fit the oven that act as a spacer.
I know videos are always welcomed, so here it is.
This technique + topshelf + a clean Pax = A viable portable that tastes great, satisfies even heavy users, and won't waste your bud!

EDIT: I'm also a big fan of the mento's caps for smell control:
Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I got my first Pax last July, and bought my second one the next day. Love the unit. I have read this entire thread since last June, but haven't had anything to add.

But now I think I have some useful info. I found something that works great as a Pax cap. Mentos gum comes in a container that looks like a shorter Pax. The container has a lid that can be taken off the container. There is a collar connected to the lid that needs to be cut off. This lid fits perfectly on the mouthpiece end of the Pax. It snaps onto the end snugly, and stays in place unless removed. There is a ridge of plastic on the inside of the cap. This needs to be cut off (I used an exacto knife) in order for the cap to fit snugly on the oven end of the Pax.

This picture shows the container, the cap & collar removed from the container, the lid with the collar removed (with the ridge of plastic still in place), and a Pax with a cap on each end.
PICT1226.jpg

This shows one cap with the ridge intact (fits the mouthpiece end), one with the ridge shaved off (fits the oven end). The better you shave the ridge, the more snug the cap can fit the oven end.
PICT1233.jpg

Hope people find the info useful. The caps fit very snugly, and while not perfect, they do contain the smell very well. I leave a Pax in one of my jackets a lot, and my wife tells me that the jacket starts to stink after a while. Since I've been using the caps, it no longer smells to her.

Newbie here...just ordered my first vape & went with the Pax...40th Bday gift to myself :)
I am trying to read through the thread but it might take me awhile to catch up.
In the meantime, do I grind up my herbal material before packing? Prob a very silly question but I had to ask.
Any suggestions on a grinder? I can't believe after more than 20 years, I never owned one.

Yes you should. You don't need a grinder. Make sure your material is dry, then put some into a small closed container along with a quarter. (I use pill bottles.) Shake for a minute or until "ground" to your taste.

A shot glass and scissors works nicely too.

Mr.Krinkle

Shpooding Time.
I have been reading here for a while. Also, I love my pax so much. It will be one year old in about 2 weeks. Keeping it clean (im really meticulous about it) has helped alleviate most every common problem I have read about. I highly recommend the pax and highly recommend keeping it clean.

However, I have a new problem, and I was curious if anyone else has had it too. My mouthpiece is stuck in the 'off' position. With a paper clip bent into a very small tight hook, I tried prying it out. The plastic part that touches your lips actually slid off the metal tube. Now the metal tube is stuck in the chamber, and it is on. The only way to turn it off is to slide the plastic part back on. I have tried pulling the metal tube out with needle nose pliers, and it is literally stuck down in there and wont come out for anything.

Is there anything I can do, has anyone else had this happen? Looks like it might end up heading back to ploom soon..

Ive done this, do you still have the slider ring that goes on it? if you pop the ring over the tube and push it down with a toothpick or something it'll spring the the little stainless tube free.

Does anyone know of a UK stockist of the spare parts for the Pax? I'd like a spare mouthpiece, some screens and a couple of oven lids for when I lose one in the dark whilst camping or partying. . . . . its bound to happen eventually and want to be prepared ;-)

So I know it was over a week ago but I just moved into my first place and I haven't been able to take time and browse the internet. Finally, with a break, I get to share my awesome Pax experience!

Riot Fest, a three day festival in Chicago, was my first testing ground for outside vaping at a festival. It was a total success! People were impressed/jealous of having a portable vape. I had one guy give me $5 in beer tickets to use it, with me watching like a hawk of course. Four guys who were using an empty Redbull can commented that they felt primitive compared to me hah. The only downside was having to plan out my sessions due to the battery life's length combined with no outlets anywhere; only the VIP tent had plugs.

Anyone else have similar experiences or have any cool stories to share?

I'd still be hesitant calling the Pax a stash killer. As usual I think it depends on the user. I pack small ovens with a screen on top and I conserve pretty well, but I guess there are still other vapes out there that can be more efficient.

When I went from smoking to my Pax I went from 1/8 a week, 2x a day, to 2g'ish a week, 3x a day. I don't know about what it is between different vapes but this thing is definitely a conserver.

Hey,
Interesting point you expose, community have to know if a dark source is here. Since i have myself a grey unit, i am very interested in sorting this out because consequence will never be the same!!

so I'm just so free that I set a few pictures of the fake pax
so you can see it if you have a fake
ebay is full of that.

The status lights are different than original
blue = low 190 °
purple mid = 210 °
red = high temp 230 °

the light pulsates in color until the temp is reached
then it changes to blue and pulsates the heat is reached

loading inidaktion and batarrystatus only without mouthpiece!
standyby mode is present but not as good.
I think these are cheap g-sensors
i dont know if the display actually indicates the status of the battery, or simply
lying. I'll try it

the pcb mainboard is different from the original
logo and screws other than the original

The battery is also different: 2300mah
the charger runs at 5v
the original, there are 9v.

until now I have not regretted the purchase and the final result of the weed is like popcorn
As with all other vaporizers
According to a Chinese employee whose uncle allegedly heard the factory
there is only a single-producers in China which produces the counterfeit.
All other sellers on ali express buy from the
According to their own statement
Counterfeit $ 100-150 pax all come from the same house

nobody here in Germany has a pax so I can not compare with anyone
pax vapo import costs at the end of about € 240 / $ 325

but I'm a bit anxious when the dark side of Chinese quality shows :))

I must again apologize for my bad english and thank you that you can bear it :)

@flitze, your pictures are interesting and google is doing a good job on your translations.

The serial number in photo #4 looks like it is printed on a translucent film and stuck on. It reflects light but the Pax itself does not. Pax serial numbers are engraved and not white.

Your descriptions tell us that these are reverse-engineered knock-offs and not from extra runs by the official Pax manufacturer. You can see more evidence of this in your last two pictures. In a genuine Pax (I have two) those two round marks left from the manufacturing process are spaced closer to the ends of the oven, farther apart than we see here.

It would be really good if we could identify the battery so we could determine what protections it has, if any.

The screen also looks different. The short edges have much bigger indents for airflow, and the long edges almost look like teeth instead of subtle small waves.

yes the screen is different

I will make new photos.
from the screen, battery and circuit board
however
a few minutes ago I used the pax
Accordingly, I'm high ':).
and what is worse, first I have to make sports :/
(p90x: "do you feel the gravatiy?
F *** Y ** yes! ")

Then I try to understand all what you say, and to make photos for you ^ ^
I'll take apart the pax after that

 I missed that completely. The screen looks quite a bit different.

I want to point out the significance of these devices being knock-offs and not back-door sales of overruns.

Ploom is a reputable company either partnered with or owned by (I forget which) a large international tobacco firm. You can be pretty sure that they have been careful choosing their materials and manufacturing processes. There is a lot at stake for them.

A company making knock-offs has no incentive to spend extra money on certified safe materials, or even durable ones. I think profit will dominate that sort of decision. Consequently you have no idea whether these counterfeits are healthy or safe to use, or how well they are assembled, or if they contain parts that will fail quickly.

These are no different than the numerous cheap box vapes on eBay that we always tell people to avoid. To anyone thinking of buying one of these, my advice is don't do it, even if you are living where you can't get a real Pax.

I'm back

I will try to list everything that I know and want to know about the clone

ok the differences are not small
but I knew
I have not had great expectations with the clone
but have been surprised

many vaporizer come from china
for example the puffit
the manual says "do not use empty"
but I have seen it too late and have used it empty
and it was pure plastic taste
otherwise the pax clon

health is paramount
the nose is a good indicator for some obvious hazard materials
view from this the first time puffit made me more worry (but after the first time everything was heavenly)

I do not like
not only the idea was gestohlen.the whole design was stolen.
that's unfair

the differences:
1) $ -150
2) other light colors
3) battery status only without mouthpiece (according to the manufacturer should be different in the new version)
4) apparently there are only 2 status colors: green and red.yellow I have not seen until now
5) charging indicator only without mouthpiece.
but can also be loaded with (according to the manufacturer should be different in the new version)
6) other battery (we must still check disclosures)
7) other charger (5V instead of 9V output)
8) another screen
9), the metal seems to be brushed and anodized or so
in the original works, the surface appears painted (as the photos seem to me)
10) other temperatures. I can not verify whether the disclosures are correct.
felt it could get there but
11) different logo or no logo & other screw
12) some marks of production are significantly different (at the plastic for example)
13) serial number STICKER which relates to the warranty in china (support is ok - had a bit correspondence)

I know that until now
I still want to know the weight of an original pax
the term I would estimate at 1 hour +
the temperature of the copy behaves like the descriptions of other user of the original.
the lower part is warm but not hot
are your magnets stuck?
I have lost 1. the first time I've opened it
but a great German company has me really given 20 pcs. 3x1mm neodym as a pattern : P .now i can lost one more
apparently he smells like an original :)
thanks for the Mentos idea

attached are now a large amount of photos
i swear i will never spamm like this again ^^
I let the pics uncommented and if someone think he can handle my english
he can ask me :)

Interesting pics of the china pax! They really did make their own version from the PCB up!

My Pax weighs 96g (96.06)

JoeKickass,

So
thx joekickass
my china pax weighs 89g
approx 7g less than the original

which is probably due to the battery
Which has at least 400 mah less

we imagine that the chinese lies with what he writes on the battery
and it has only 1800mah that's still not bad, I could still $ 10 for a 3400mah battery install it later in time

and if a Tobacco Group is behind the whole I'm not sad anymore that the products are copied
I do not like tobacco companies ......

good trade-up now
although there are cheaper pax's

cleaning kit was included

Alright, the unit i paid full price is a clear fake now!!! bloody reckless merchant.

If you bought on eBay there is fraud protection also if you used your Credit Card call up their Fraud Prevention and retract the payment. If the merchant wants to fix the situation they will accept their crappy knock off or eat the loss.

Since this is the Pax thread and not to detract off Real Units, would you mind sharing the vendor who sold you this in the fake pax thread: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/fake-pax-vaporizers-bootlegs.9016/page-8

That account has been flagged as an unregistered commercial member. Once she registers properly with vtac then she will be able to post. Meanwhile, her video has been removed from FC for now.

Edit: Also, as S1N3 points out, there is a thread for counterfeit Pax units so please use it for discussion about them.
