Yeah mine does sit at an angle, although a very small one. Just enough to bother me. :|

I tried creating a seal on the windows and I got no luck. I'm pretty sure I made a seal but i heard the air rushing in the mouthpiece. I guess I'll have to see how it works on Friday. I'll go try it with the rubber band

EDIT: Just tried plugging the windows with my hands and pulled right from the hole on the top of the unit (no mouthpiece) and had tons of air flow. Are you sure that is where the air intake is?

The angle on mine is bigger for sure. I'll post a pic when I have a chance. Maybe it's because he got swamped with a ton of MD orders?

Yeah, I'm sure about the airpath. There was a post by Marc somewhere, I think it was on reddit, that explained it. You wont get a seal good enough with just the wood against wood to test it. If you have some blue masking tape, just tape over the windows, then tape around the mouthpiece and you'll get a perfect seal.

edit: here's the angle on mine

Well I just tried again. No seal. I taped the windows and drew right form the hole on the top (no mouthpiece).

I'm not going to worry about this until I actually use it although it is a bit strange...

Mine came today too, and I agree, this is a really nice vape that looks good, feels good in the hand, and has a perfect size to weight ratio.

Sadly, mine broke before I could even use it once. In preparing for first use, I did 3 burnoffs of 90 seconds that produced a decent amount of vapor that finally disappeared during the last half of the 3rd burnoff. The vapor mostly came out of the side windows and actually smelled nice and woody and not toxic at all. I did hear some crackling which I assumed was harmless excess mineral oil/beeswax.

So of course I get all excited about putting in the first load and... no heat! So now I have to go through the whole return/exhange thing, which I hate with a passion. :ugh:

Very weird this may be the first defective unit? Ive had my maple unit for about 4 months almost everyday usage and its just like new. Hopefully something wasnt just secured all the way in production. Im sure Mark will take care of you! Also my new Walnut unit tastes so damn good definetly better than the maple... MMMMhMMMM

Yeah I'm sure he'll take care of me, but I know it will be a couple of weeks at least before I'm up and running because he's probably working night and day trying to fill the last MD orders. He's probably cross-eyed by now and I don't expect he'll be dealing with any email until he's through, which is totally understandable.

This thing is a creeper for sure. I have yet to get that massive hit but man is this thing effective. So far I've had three small sessions and this thing is great. I'm used to nursing my magic flight all night so being able to have 3 kick butt sessions with the same amount as a full trench is pretty great.

I'm still getting a hang of it but I think it's safe to say this thing is a keeper.

I don't think so, mmenzie. I think the best deal is the unfinished.

A Warning to all those who have the Walnut unit: Rubber bands may discolor the Firewood.

Unfortunately this evening when I removed my rubber band to load I saw that the spots where the band was placed have become much lighter. The bottom (where the rb was looped twice) has turned a very light brown. It's sad to see because this thing looks amazing and I have only had it a week! I'll take some pictures in the morning but has this happened to anyone else?

mod note: Please avoid back-to-back posts, use Edit instead. Two posts merged.

Hello all,
I've been an extremely happy Firewood user for the last 2-3 months. It's changed my life converting from a smoker to now a full time vape enthusiast.

For the fist time a bit concerned about the wood on the side panel looking like it's starting to burn. I noticed a slight brown tint last month, which I tried to sand off thinking it was dirt or oil maybe, but to no avail. And now it's turned darker this month indicating it's the actual wood being burned through. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if I got a defective unit in some way or this is normal. I imagine if it keeps progressively burning one day that area could crack, but maybe just discoloration is the worst of it?

I don't feel like I'm overcooking the oven or anything, at most I've held the trigger for about 1 minute to burn off some rubbing alcohol and resin; and I've only done that twice. Once when I bought it brand new, and then just last week.

The wood around the window does get extremely hot that I can't grab anywhere near that area while I'm vaping, and I do about a 20-30 second warm up trigger pull, with 10-15 sec triggers as I'm vaping depending on heat.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback guys, glad to know it's not just me and I wasn't overheating it.

I imagine if for some reason the wood burns through and cracks or effects the performance somehow the good people over at Firewood would consider that under warranty.

The same thing is happening with mine and I haven't even had it that long.
But if you were to look at other wood vapes like logs, you would also notice a darkening on the wood. My UD is left on 24/7 and is consistently hotter than the fw. I've had my UD for a year and it runs like day one, can't see the wood affecting the performance.
