Anyone watch Breaking Bad?

Oh god...seeing what remains of the great Heisenberg is so hard...alone, renegade, lost in nowhere.

But then the cafè scene, the Gray matter interview, the Heisenberg look and the mo-fo main theme starts playing, oh god, so intense. Can't wait. This is BIG!

At this point, I would be happy if Walt forgot about the Nazi's and just went and blew the head off that Gray matter prick. :borg:

Lets get some predictions!

In order of likelihood I'm thinking:

- 0 success rate on revenge attempts by Walt on Jesse, Nazi's, Grey-Matter Guy.
- Ricin reacquired with Lydia in mind.
- A suicide somewhere in the finale. Can't decide between Marie or Walt...

You mean the guy that paid for Walt's cancer treatment? Walt walked away from the company because he was morally compromised, and who could blame them for distancing themselves from public enemy #1!

My guess is that Walt dies in pathetic fashion, while Jesse gets to suffer a fate worse than death.

He paid for none of Walt's treatment. Also I think it is low of them to lie about Walt's contributions. No integrity.

Walt paid for his own cancer treatment, with the money he made from cooking meth. Thats was established pretty early on. There was a whole episode about his former girlfriend finding out about his lie.

Not really sure what you mean about Walt leaving the company for being morally compromised? From what I recall, they never really say for sure what went down at Gray Matter...just that he used to be romantically involved with Gretchen and that her husband and co-founder in the business, downplays his contribution.

The only reason that dude even offered Walt money for his treatment, was because Skyler went behind Walt's back and spoke to Gretchen.

Right, Walt was too proud to take their money but they did offered to pay for his treatment. He decided it would be better to become a meth kingpin instead

And yes I mean sleeping with his friend's wife was a moral compromise, the show has repeatedly offered that as the reason he left the partnership but hopefully we will get more details in the finale.

Fuck Walt and his contributions to Grey Matter. I would have done the same thing if I was them.

Sleeping with his friends wife? Walt never had an affair with Gretchen...she was his girlfriend, who he left when he left the company.

As to why he chose not to take the money, they don't elaborate...and his decision to cook meth extended far beyond paying his medical bills.

Not sure we are watching the same show...

Edit: And I am not sure why you are rolling your eyes...you are the one who just claimed that Walt's treatment was paid for by Gray matter...and it wasn't.

The Pinkman torture porn was tough to take...

Here is my fan-fic ending

Everyone involved dies, except for Walt and Landry (todd). Walt wakes up after the final confrontation...chained in a meth lab with a picture of his baby paperclipped to the poll. Landry says "Ok, lets cook..." credits roll. Then a quick epilogue to Jesse's lil bro trying blue meth for the first time... or the teacher Carmen from the high school blowing 3 guys to get her meth fix.

Uncle Jack, Skyler, Vacuum guy... all killed or in jail.

The meth heads continue to get their meth.

You know what I love most about this show? Is the fact that it doesn't sugar coat life...sometimes people do have to sit back and watch their own dreams tank, while those around them are doing very well. Sometimes good people do bad things. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you make nothing but the wrong choices and end up torn up and alone....and eventually dead.

If you do everything perfect in life you still end up dead.

Fuck walt, he made his choices and hurt a lot of people and I'm glad he got screwed out of grey matter. He deserves less than nothing!

Well fuck walt anyways, he made his choices and I'm glad he got screwed out of grey matter.

He deserves less than nothing!

lol yeah, he is a prick...but I don't know, there is a part of me that feels sorry for him. I really do wish they gave us a little more background about what happened...might help us understand his motivations a bit better.

I think everyone in this show is pretty much going to be destroyed by the end...I hope that Mike's granddaughter gets a lions share of the money that is left behind.

It was interesting how a cold-blooded assassin was made into a sympathetic character.
But fuck him too.

A lot of people see the show as a Shakespearean type or classic Greek tragedy... and it is... all good literature sort of falls back to the classic "first stories" however there are a ton of layers to it. The great thing about writing in 2013 is they are free to write whatever they want, and have thousands of years of work to vibe off.

I see one of the layers of this show just being an allegory for suburban mid-life crisis and the death of the middle class.

Walt suddenly realizes that despite 50 years of life and hard work, he has nothing and is about to be bankrupted by the health care system, leaving his family penniless. That is real-life for the vast majority of "new-poor". Most "middle class" people are 3 months of paychecks away from being bankrupt, foreclosed etc... 30 years ago middle class were 2 years worth of paychecks away from being poor.

So Walt's story is really everyone who is middle class and gets sick story.

Jesse's story is the american dream allegory. Misunderstood, good hearted yet flawed kid looks to strike out on his own and maybe fall in love, and make some money in the process. Meth-fueled Great Gatsby or Out of Africa all over again.

Then you have Hank and Marie. Classic childless middle class couple with a career minded lifestyle. The ever reaching for that next promotion/raise/relocation so you can finally start living the way you really want to. Invest in your nieces/nephews as an over-loving aunt/uncle, but in your own home it's work and how to achieve more at work...

And then in the end we see what the american dream has become. Empty promises, violence, greed, death and destruction.

Hank gets the promotion (that Marie wanted more) and life isn't any better, just different.

Walt is powerless and struggling, then he gets sick and is even more powerless, but this frees him. And what does that freedom get him? Alone, sad, without a rudder. Clinging to dreams of glory and power, in the name of his family... a family that doesn't want it at the cost/price and never really pressured him to do it anyway...

But it's the 'crisis' of mid-life and staring death in the face that causes Walt to take action. But it just makes his relationship worse. Meth lord, could have easily just been betting on NFL or buying into a race car team or investing in a munitions shop or any other boring mid-life crisis activities people do. They went with meth lord because it's obviously more interesting ^_^

But Walt's story is the MRA / "innocent" dad screwed over by bitchy wife trope. Even tho Skyler is just trying to look out for the family too, the angry white guy MRA slant is ... of course the wife is now fat and bitchy! And everything that goes wrong could have been avoided if she were more supporting... I don't feel that way, but that's the MRA POV on this type of thing :)

Walt and Hank's stories are just 2 flavors of mid-life crisis in 2013 and what that means. In the old days, mid life crisis was 30, or it was the "7 year itch". Now, people live to 90 frequently so 40-50 is the new mid-life.

Hank was the career chaser, and all that did was distract from doing what he loved, and loving what he did. It caused angst, and in the end resulted in emptiness, loneliness, trying to hide in the garage and make beer, or hold up working on pet cases....

Marie's constant pushing for more, her stealing, she had major emotional emptiness and was filling it with false hope, and dreams of a 'better future'. Her story is not appreciating what you have, until it's gone. Wanting something too much... demanding career success in a marriage and what that actually does to the marriage.

I wonder if Walt will kill himself in custody after getting his revenge? There was a guy who did that...took cyanide in the courtroom.

Great well-written analysis!

The only part I didn't agree with is the pp I quoted. Walt had no superior expertise in any other type of venture, and no other type of enterprise had the potential for exponential profits like cooking meth did.

Absolutely, yeah I don't mean literally he could have done those other things, but that those other things are what a non-fictional Walter White type would get into. WW was always going into meth ^_^

It's usually 1000000x more mellow, like the mid life crisis guys start going out more and wearing Lucky jeans and hitting strip clubs.

or you see the guys who start dressing like their 12 year old sons... sneakers, BBall shorts, while not actually playing BBall...

Or the sad NFL betting addicts who blow their mortgage payments on can't miss 3 team teasers...

Or the real-life sad stories of the mid-life crisis dudes abandoning their 1st/2nd family to go start the 3rd/4th family. This is super common out here in Cali. There is this cultural pressure to get married and crank out kids as soon as possible, which usually leads to divorce in the 30s-40s and the dude restarting with another lady and the OG lady taking up with someone elses' walk-out / cast-off dad.

That was the one part of Breaking Bad that always truck me as odd, how sexless it is. WW has the one sex scene, and then the 1 awkward come-on to Carmen. Jesse has a lil bit.. but in general, it's a very sexless show. It works for this show, but is highly unrealistic.

Nazi meth dealers would absolutely have a bunch of sex slaves chained up. Jesse's girl and son wouldn't be at home doing their thing, they'd be locked in a ranch house / illegal bunny ranch. Brock would have been sold on the black market.

Skyler would have been tearing it up with new young AXE bros, and WW would have had a gaggle of strippers and party girls following him everywhere.

That was probably the first time in decades that I actually gave watching the Emmy's a chance. WTF Jeff Daniels? The Newsroom is the biggest masturbatory nonsense on HBO since Girls. I generally loathe hollywood/media selfie shows (Newsroom, Entourage, ) once in a while a decent one comes along (Californication)

but Jeff Fucking Daniels for best actor? LOLZ. He's mostly playing himself on that show... it's a boring show, that no one outside of media cares about, but the voters just had to snub their nose at WalterWhite hype? Or was this some sort of message about "smart" tv shows and backlash against the violence?

The irony is the Newsroom is aggressively dumb, it is posing as smart and interesting TV, but only those with experience in the media actually care about it, and they only care because they can nitpick the inaccuracies. No one actually watches The Newsroom and enjoys it. That's not what it was meant for. /sigh

At least GIRLS didn't win. Such nepotism and pandering in that show, without Game of Thrones, HBO has really shit the bed the last few years. GIRLS, Newsroom, Veep, Horseracing, New Jersey bootlegging, True Blood...It's decidedly weak. Veep and Boardwalk are not bad shows, but when the boardwalk guy won best supporting and Daniels won and then Elaine won for Veep... some serious ass kissing with those awards. Someone owed someone a favor because it is clear to the 10 of us who have watched Veep... the show is simply OK at best, and political satire pr0n for those who care about D.C. gossip.

Game of Thrones could do it's own network and ditch the HBO baggage. AMC, Showtime and FX are all putting out better shows than HBO these days... sad

Ha! I've never seen any of those shows besides bb and got. There's a lot of tv shows I haven't seen, and it's great catching up on them in a compressed time frame.

I'm almost done with true blood, which is what I was getting through when I switched to bb. It's cool but kinda stupid, at least it has sex and violence lol. I'm looking forward to homeland and got picking back up, and I was thinking about taking up ray donovan or sons of anarchy next, maybe boardwalk. Or just going back and giving twin peaks another look lol.

I saw the first episode of the blacklist, and am unsure what I think about that one. For funny it's always sunny and anger management, but boston legal was awesome.
