Herb Grinders

What if over time the aluminum chips off into the bud, and then you vape/smoke it at high temperatures? That'd be bad. Can anybody explain to me why this (hopefully) isn't a valid concern?
This is a concern with inferior quality finishes. I have to say that my SCS only shows sign of wear on the outside from where it was dropped onto a slate floor. fwiw it seems much more durable than my SC Ti finish was . . . :)

I agree, t-dub...my Ti finish hasn't started coming off yet, but I will keep an eye on it...that is if I ever use the SC again.:)

Seems like I will get a lot of use out of the SCS...but ...I am Jonesing for that "Jumbo"...:mmmm:

Hey, just lost my mendo mulcher in a house fire recently. I personally loved it(had the biggest one) and went to get another but seems there site has been down for a while now. Thinking of getting a SCS large with the rx engraved, how's it compare to mendo? Looking for best grinder out so open to suggestions. I'm looking for a 4 piece, not sure how many have used mendo mulcher but I loved how much kief you got. How does that aspect compare to the SCS?

I've had two Mendo's (large and small) and they were both lousy for getting a fine grind due to only having two edges on the teeth- back and front. Great for cutting through the bud but a fine grind was impossible. I can't say that that tooth design is the only one he uses now though and if you don't need a fine grind it doesn't matter. If you want a Mendo there are some on eBay.

The Santa Cruz tooth design is kind of the opposite, with a squared off configuration that's great for grinding but will put up much more resistance if your bud chunks aren't nice and dry and ready to crumble. The resistance is less for the larger sizes since it's easier to get more torque during the turn.

Thanks for the quick reply, gonna go with the scs. Any input on the kief? Read a review where he spoke down on the screen or something.

Unless he just didn't like the micron size of the screen, there's nothing bad about it on the SCS.
Maybe his screen got clogged by skin oils or something.

A high micron screen means it can look like you're getting less kief, but in reality you're getting a finer purer kief with less plant matter.

You may not get as much as a previous grinder but you will get some. I was able to cover the whole bottom with kief when I got mine. I keep the screen clean and hit the grinder on a hard surface to make sure it all falls.

Yea, I've only put through about a 1/4 oz on mine and I've already got a decent build-up of very fine kief in the bottom chamber. Just remember to give it a scrape every now and then... and keep your fingers away from it if possible (I use a little plastic spoon for scooping).

I just recently ordered a TI Space Case. I wiped it down with ISO and some of the black finish in the threads wiped off onto the paper towel/cotton swabs. I figured this was just excess from manufacturing, so I cleaned it until there was no more residue. Upon screwing it together and apart, there was quite a bit more finish coming off. I think the friction from threading is wearing it, which is totally unacceptable and a big health risk. Packed it up and sent it back. Ended up ordering a Medium SCS in silver as a replacement.

I feel that you did right!
I wrote a bad review for Ti SC
I love my Space Cases, but that coating is just thick enough to make the
Titanium version of our tool turn too snuggly when it is soiled.
I got it from a very reliable and "cool" distributor (Puffitup) who gave me an easy time of it, but I have never touched the Space case Titanium Coated products again.

Guess I'm going to have to keep a closer watch on my shredder's...not a big fan of inhaling metal flakes...gives me indigestion...and makes my lungs feel funny:nod:

I was pretty surprised when I noticed it. I have never been rough with it, just simple herb going through it constantly. The teeth look like I've ground something hard in it...discouraging, because its a beautiful grinder otherwise!

Hey Guys. There is a new herb grinder that I found that seems really promising. I'm new to the forums, so sorry for the bad format on the posting. Really nice grinder and at a great pricing. The teeths look similar to the SCS. Here's a link to their website. Below is a picture that tells you how it differentiates from other grinders.

I looked at the design carefully with an engineer friend.
We both believe the new tooth design is an attempt at appearing well thought out...
but physics indicates otherwise.
The flat sides aiming toward the extremity (and center) do not make sense.
Remembering that this motion will occur in circular motion, this does not make as much sense as our current "favorites".

I am willing to give it a shot, and look forward to reports, but this looks pretty gimmicky to me.

Hey Vitolo. That makes a lot of sense. I've been an avid fan of your videos and posts for a long time. I hope someone takes the plunge and tests it out. What are your guy's thoughts on the other features of the grinder has to offer?

Well I need a solid 2 piece unit. I'm assuming there is not much difference between the non titanium Space Case and the SCS for the Medium 2 pieces? Also not sure if i need a medium or smaller... this will basically be for grinding an eighth or less at a time.

My two favorite grinders are two piece grinders.
I have all Space case sizes, but I like the small.
Same in the SCS... I love the smaller one.
I am one of those guys that clicks the two halves of the grinder together...
cup side down over my "meds dish". The mediums were just enough larger to cause me to always spill a few crumbs over the dish boundry, when "clicking".
I still use the medium Space Case for times when greater volume is needed, but
between my two faves (small sc and scs), I will grab for the Santa Cruz Shredder every time.
It has leverage/torque ratio that I love. It feels easier to "get cranking" under the weight of tight nugs.

Sorry to sound a bit stupid, I checked the glossary of acronyms but what's an SCS?

I'm in the market for a new grinder but prob need some guidance
