***Gamers*** What are you playing?

Danger Zone!
I would also steer clear of the horror games. I get WAY too immersed into games when I'm playing them and I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack playing something scary.

I've heard that the Oculus Rift does an amazing job with 3D movies as well . . . I've heard its much better than the theaters.

I should give a 3d movie a shot, I'll stick it on the list of things to try.

I haven't played snes games in years. I think I am going to have to start with Zelda. Any other recommendations?
Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country 1&2!

Also related, there's a sequel to A Link To The Past coming out for the 3DS in November...

I barely got anywhere in GTA4 and just recently tried to play the Lost and Damned... worst GTAs ever. GTA SA was much better, and GTAv looks more SAish so I'm happy ;)

Is there anywhere you can buy never-opened old school systems like a Super Nintendo?

I'd love to sit around for a few weeks playing some Super Mario Kart and Contra n' shit..

The early parts of GTAV definitely live up to the hype. The way they introduce characters, the presentation and production values are truly astounding. So much better than GTA4 in so many ways, the driving, shooting, even the walking and running is better (although still X button to sprint WTF?) They even fixed changing clothes, which was super slow and loading screen bound in every other GTA.

I haven't been this blown away by a game since the opening sequence of the first Bioshock.

Contra 99 lives!up up down down left right left right ab ab! Would be great if the next gen version used the same old school code!

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
I'm digging GTA V also. Although I feel as if I need a shower after playin. All the characters are morally bankrupt. At least Niko was a good antihero and tormented by his need to fuck people up.

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy XIV: a realm reborn, since I was an avid FFXI online player back in the days. Ordered GTA V for the offline gaming, will arrive in few days, gonna get lost soon in Los santos as the majority of gamers atm :)

Oh god the checkpoints.... fixed! One of the worst things about GTA4 was how awful the save system was. I could never finish that game, or even get more than halfway because of how tedious they made combat and driving during missions. Hated the missions and the side activities sucked ass.

There is a reason Saints Row 2/3/4 got so popular despite starting off as a semi-rip off of GTA:SA. GTA4 went with "lets make this a gritty crime movie, with a scaled back GTA world" ok... they succeeded in making what would have been an interesting 5 episode arc in Sopranos back in early 2000s... however they forget to make a fun game.

GTA5 returns back to gameplay as the focus, even the way missions transition seamlessly into engine powered cut-scenes is vastly improved from any other GTA and most other games period.

It's like they did the opposite of Bioware, instead of pretending to listen to fans, and then do checkbox game design like Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2, Rockstar listened to fans, and then surprised them with innovative storytelling and expanded and refined gameplay.

Rockstar could have easily done a 10 hour story mode, launched with 3rd person cover shooting online gameplay, tied that gameplay to % completion in the story mode, and most casuals would have been happy. Spammed clothing and skins as DLC and called it a day.

Instead they went back to the San Andreas style of open world, and very clearly re-worked all the important and basic aspects of the gameplay. Everything from walking up stairs to hand to hand combat has been carefully updated and refined, the animations, character models, everything... whereas GTA4 felt like it was full of sacrifices and half assed 'modernizations' like the cover system.

I just played GTA4 lost and damned a few weeks back so the controls are fresh in my mind. I was constantly battling the camera and controls in that game, even tho I'm very used to 3rd person games, it's just a clumsy and unsatisfying experience in every way except driving motorcycles.

And the improved more unrealistic/videogamey motorcycle control from L&D is back in this game.

They still have lots of room for improvement with the whole 'interacting with the world" thing.. but that's such a huge challenge that no one has solved it. For example, interacting with people on the street is press the dpad to the right... extremely limited. Fable 1 had better character interaction.

I'm not sure why this one aspect feels dumbed down, but it really stands out in such a detailed world. It's very cool to listen to conversations after missions that feel more real and organic, but it's an about face when you simply try to interact with NPCs on the street. Their only reaction seems to be fear.

I just read about this thing the other day, called the Retron 5. It lets you play all kinds of old school game cartridges on one system. Looks pretty slick!

NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance!

Just saw that GTA V netted $1 BILLION in sales in 3 days. Biggest entertainment launch in history. Not just biggest video game launch. :o

Yeah, I just heard the funniest radio commercial in the game for basicly a vape pen, but it's the funniest thing I've heard in a while. No spoilers here, when you play it you'll hear it.

Can't wait to to play GTA5 but I have a few games I have to beat first. I've recently turned into a budget gamer so I've been picking up older titles for 25 and under.

I'm almost done with Tomb Raider and I have Bioshock Infinite, The Uncharted Trilogy, and Ni No Kuni to play. So many games and so little time.

Anybody think the PS4 and XBox One will sell out soon after launch? I remember people selling PS3s on eBay for 1500 dollars after the launch in '06.
