Question for you guys.

I recently purchased another Solo (M1A4) since my other one doesn't charge. Since I've been using this one, it seems like the heating aspect of it is messed up.

For instance, I'll be vaping at a 5, and I'll feel it coming less and less and I'll up it to 6, and when it starts to heat up to 6, it'll start heating from 1 or 2, like the heat went down automatically.

Is that normal? Or does anyone not understand what I'm saying? Sorry if I'm wording this like an idiot.

Thanks all!

Yes, I do use it and like it as a change of pace. It makes the solo heavy so when I do use it I have to be careful. Right now it allergy time again for the moment. It should be short as it is in between seasons but has been bad for a week or so. I am getting to the point that I may have to lay off the solo all together for a bit unless the allergies let up.

Thanks guys and gals. You have made my day for sure. Glad you have been enjoying the stand and as OF stated these a not finalized but just pasted the usable status. Well at least for most. I have gotten the post straightened and height more accurately adjusted now. Blemished are really minimal at this point and minimal re-working needed. My goal of course is to get this as minor as possible.
Now the first units are all the larger 2.1 mm plug and NOT the 1.7mm OEM plug. I think this needs clarification. Now of course this may change down the road.;)

So here's where I'm at. Literally waiting for yet another improved cast to harden up.
Working on a 90 degree pivot plug solution as well.

Oh ya, @OF, you know I have you covered. Getting out a protractor for your replacement. :science:

Those Water tube stands look really awesome. Do you make those as well? I just ordered a 7.5'' 18mm WT from glassblowers direct and am looking into storage solutions

I'm getting spread pretty thin but have the f-BOMB stand coming as an add on. Won't be worth the shipping by itself. At least that's my thinking. No intentions for custom sizes. Do need to sleep once in a while.
:mmmm:
I found myself nervous every time I set the tube down even for a second without something. So...did my thing as it were.

@Pipes this is awesome work man, thanks for all your efforts...I look forward to getting my hands on one of the stands, and if there is the option to add in an f-bomb stand that that would be the cherry on top.

I have been looking for something to use and so far was residing myself to a 14mm oil dome stand, but they are hard to come buy over here in the UK!

Cheers

We have been having a heat wave here in Southern California so I'm sure Allergy Season will be brutal this year!

I really, really apologize, but I'm on my phone and it's giving me problems when searching the forum. I'm prepping my buddy's Solo for him (first timer) and I'm having trouble getting the top back on with the silicone o-ring in place. I was wondering what the fix was for this if there was one?

Unscrew the Top
Slip in a stem
Put the o-ring on
Screw the top back on
pull the stem out
the o-ring should now be in place

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The thickness of the o-ring seems to be preventing the top threading back on. I've pushed pretty hard, but still no joy. (When I installed the o-ring on mine a few months ago, it went back on quite easily). I've seen other members having the same issue but I can't find the posts.

# just to clarify, I'm using the above method.

OF confirmed there are slightly different cap sizes

See below for his post...

OK, guys, I think I have a handle on this fit issue, and it's not pretty.

I realized I have a brand new unit I'm holding for a friend until he gets home and can come get it. Aside from being sure it was charged and got hot, it's new. I packed it back up a while back. So I went and got it. It didn't like the same o-ring at all. A bit of poking around shows why, look at the thickness of the two top covers:
solocaps.jpg

Near as I can measure his is twice as thick in the top! .035 against .082? It's easier to see than measure. There's a part of a 'post it' note stuck inside to make it more visible.

Here comes the bad part they're both M1A4s with serial numbers a few thousand different (his being higher). My cover on his is fine, his on mine won't work there either. In this case at least, it's a cover (specifically the top thickness it seems) issue.

I think CV raises a great point, the mounting is intended to support the weight of the internals, not compress an o-ring under serious pressure. I got lucky I guess with mine in that it comes up just snug before it hits the stop. A 'perfect fit'. The stem and ring freely turn 1/2 turn or so before. I wouldn't be at all surprised if honking down on the one that's thicker (the new one) with a ring under it might not cause serious problems below.

Due caution is advised. Each unit is potentially different?

Hey Guys,
Sorry to get off topic, but I have a few questions for you solo experts. I just received my new solo from the massdrop sale a few days ago. After doing about 8-10 twelve minute sessions to rid the unit of that "robot fart" burn in smell, I was able to do a few sessions. I bought a pvhes straight stem like you guys had recommended and had no trouble inserting the stem into the unit. It actually fits quite snug and doesn't move at all with no O ring attached. Do you find the solo to be efficient? I use a one hitter when I'm out and about so I'm use to getting buzzed with very little amounts of the kind. So I tried the solo using the same amount that I used in my 1 hitter and found that I didn't get nearly as high and it seemed to burn through the amount I put in quite fast, maybe 3 hits. I let the unit heat up to 4, inserted the stem and waited about 30 seconds and started in inhale. I saw an initial sort of burst of vapor go through the stem and then never saw any vapor go through again even though I saw small clouds on the exhale. Does the solo need more herb to work properly? I tried going to higher temps but didn't have real luck. THe draw is pretty good, the taste was very good and the battery is working quite well! Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

Not sure if a different o ring would still grip effectively.

I think the number 015 ring (same basic ID but 1/16 not 3/32 cord) would probably grip fine but might want to turn under the cap (needing a shim to stop rotation??). Unfortunately I no longer have access to the Solo with the thick cap I did (and have any such rings to test......).

Ordering Buna or Viton rings to test for fit would probably be worth a try for those who feel inclined (and have the 'right' Solo)?

Yes that is normal with mine, when you change the heat setting, especially right after a good pull the software resets itself and shows your current heat, you will not see this unless you change your heat setting, since the unit is already hot it does not take as long to revive itself.

Good way to look at it I think.

I see is as the bowl temperature being the default display. It always goes there. On boot up it shows battery state for a few seconds, but shifts to temperature automatically. Likewise, changing step settings uses the same display for a few seconds (one light only) but again reverts automatically to bowl temperature.

Charging mode (where there is not temperature worth reporting) is an exception, but when making vapor, temperature display is the default.

It's also worth noting some artifacts seem to exist when shifting display modes. For instance, restarting after a 12 minute time out briefly shows a temperature several steps higher than we know it was before shutdown, one that decays 'faster than really possible'.

Like many such indicators, familiarity rapidly makes using it 'automatic' without thinking about it......which is right, you're supposed to be enjoying the Solo, not stressing over silly little lights?

@ pipes, those stands are awesome. After getting your pa a couple weeks back I think a Stand is all I need to complete my little solo collection. I know you are busy, but any ideas when some of us might be able to get our hands on the stands?

Any chance you plan on having them for a standard cup holder? Not that I would use it in my car....:ninja:

Anyway keep up the great work, and thanks for all your Doing to advance the solo community. :peace:

Looks Awesome!, I'm waiting on a J-hook from colie glass right now so I can do exactly this. I also have a Showerhead ashcatcher that I plan to place in the fridge overnight and hook a frozen J-hook up to :D. Do you hit yours like a pipe? if so do you need to support the weight of the solo on the end there?
