Impurities Found In ALL Canned Butane...Not Good

This has been a great read! I am interested in concentrates and have been making bubble for a while now. We use authentic Bubble Bags and get some really nice results that can be dabbed. Of course it is not BHO.

That said, I have had some BHO from the dispensary and was blown away. I'd like to make something similar, but for may reasons, I don't want to fuck with butane. I was thinking about trying QWISO, but now I am more interested in the Everclear version. It just seems "safer" to me.

Can anyone who gets "good" results with Everclear please detail the steps you use? Or, if there is a thread or website someone knows, please point me in that direction. I guess I'm looking to create something I can dab and is similar to the "Honey Oil" we get from the dispensary.

Thanks everyone for all the great info on this thread!

I did the Quick Wash Ethenol method provided by skunkpharm. It tasted good, but the high and texture was never as nice as my bho and my yield was low. But I only tried it maybe 3 times, so take it for what you will.

Everclear is a pretty safe bet it tastes great, but it can be somewhat expensive compared to bho depending on the price for 190 in your area, and imo more of a hassle.

When I was doing it I too went with everclear just because I didn't feel very comfortable about iso, and have never seen any spectacular iso oil yet. :2c:

I did the everclear. I've seen spectacular iso. Like REALLY good, better than most BHO. Natedabs is the guy making the best iso IMO.

I too did the skunk pharm. Soak for 2 min in everclear without agitating. Strain through 2 coffee filters (I also use a french press for additional straining) and I ended up with golden greenish shards of what seriously looks like mica. Thin strips of it. I clumped it all into a ball in my oil slick stack. Minor heat was used on this batch. I feel like if I want to I can throw this batch on the heat, lump it all together easier. If not I'll just throw it in the cera as it is. Good for vaping I'm sure. Didn't test it yet but it looks better than MY bho at least, which I thought was pretty good and worked well.

Anyone know if you can heat slick stacks just like slick pads? Maybe I'll make it all melt together.

I have been following the thread with interest

If you guys want butane like extractions with alcohols, lower the temperature. Freeze everything once its packed (product, solvent, containers) to the lowest point you can (got mine below -28°C), also product solvent exposure time should be as short as possible.

I have very little experience with BHO, but I had to tell you guys I got shatter like stuff using my glass on glass extractor, 95% food grade ethanol, buds only. The stuff was not green, but a clear white yellow and dabbed super clean.

After the first run I did a second run, this time at room temperature, and the stuff was green, fat and nasty.

This is a picture of my extractor, but with coco oil and AVB, now I strap four layers of natural coffee filters that I wash and dry before use instead of the cap and inox grills.

Roger I had read your tutorial on this but I am very dense...you think you will ever do a vid of your diff methods? It seems easy and no work which is my fav but I don't understand how this stuff is all connected and the exact steps even though I had read it when you wrote it somewhere. I need to see to learn step by step. If you do it:clap::clap:. If not still:luv:.

Good read. Also 36 in a million odds of getting cancer? Comforting to me as someone terrified of that horrible disease. Better odds than I thought.

I'm glad this thread is remaining logical. We don't have anyone saying "BHO will cause cancer" and we also don't have anyone saying "BHO is completely harmless". What we have is real conversation about the trace amounts of nasties in butane and what it means for us all. I think we all know the world is a dangerous place, and the goal of this thread seems united in just learning more and improving the concentrates we know and love.

@darkrom--well said and +1 for hoping the spirit of discussion stays like this.

off topic--Also my family/friends who still live/work in those 2 towns close to Pgh,PA are at a 762/million(versus avg of 36 rest of U.S.)risk. That is just sick!! How many ball fields I played organized baseball at, with smoke stacks making "clouds" in the very near background:doh:.
I won't disrupt thread but wanted to say 3 of 5 of my Mom's brothers and sisters diagnosed/dies of cancer, multiple cousins and former coworkers all diagnosed some form(most weren't smokers in my fam--In Pgh, mills smoked you lol sorry). I have a small nodule on my lung my dr is currently watching(all good so far, but keeping an eye a "nodule" on my lung), Yay! But I have a good idea, since we screwed up the air there, so bad, how about we close the mills and then we'll start pulling the gas out of the ground in PA. It's totally safe according to the big companies, they never lied to...

TL;DR-- Don't move to Clairton,Glassport areas of Pennsylvania. In fact, for better air quality and drinking water quality just stay out of Western PA altogether. No pity party here, far worse for many other families for many diff or even similar reasons.

Sounds like conjecture.

I'm not sure if we're having a back and forth here or whatever (hope not) but i'm not saying anything outrageous or making guesses in the statement that the solvents used commercially for food products meant for human consumption products are food or lab grade not industrial. an example would be the hexane as a solvent in soy meat alternatives vs the industrial hexane they use as a degreaser.

I don't think the phlthalates are the result of using industrial solvents, it's something they add. and yes it's scary they do it!

maybe someday in the future when stuff is all legal and prohibition is just a memory there will be butane that is sold and packaged expressly for concentrates that is food grade including storage and packaging.

lighter refill butane for sale now isn't. It's really that simple.

we have to measure risk to reward everyday. that gets complicated sometimes.

I'm glad you moved to a place with better air!

I wonder if once things become TRULY mainstream the big producers of extracts will even use butane. Butane is used because it is cheap.

I'm sure in MASSIVE industrialized closed loop systems they could use a variety of other solvents since they wouldn't be a huge cost factor if the solvent is recovered.

Personally I'd give my left nut for a steady source of CO2 oil, and I've never even had any. The fact that it is all natural and still every bit as strong as BHO makes it the clear winner in everything besides taste IMO. I hear the taste is lacking, but I'd gladly give up flavor for the otherwise perfect concentrate.

I wish I could try any of it. I think dispensaries will be open here in summer of next year.

Well if you're ever in so cal, I'd be more than happy to let you sample some. Not to rub it in but I'm vaping some delicious triple berry CO2 oil right now. IDK what it's tested at but it's for sure CBD rich.

My friend is growing for me right now since we are a medical state and both card holders. Last night I got to vape a small sample of "sensi star" he gave me to get my feedback. It is the first time I ever got TRULY different effects it seems like. I've vaped sativas and panicked after too much, I've vaped indica dominant strains and felt relaxed, but NOTHING like this, which makes me wonder if this is the first time REALLY getting a true indica. Within half hour I was crawling into bed for the night. Totally replaced a muscle relaxer.

Makes me want to try a CBD rich extract so much more. Its like I've been living a lie with these non-pure indicas!

I found a caregiver 1 town over from me with REALLY good prices. Like CA prices on his hash. His bud is overpriced IMO, but I haven't seen it yet. Could just be my friend growing for me is REALLY hooking me up.

He's got "honey oil" for $40 a gram so I'll get 1-2 grams of that depending on what it looks like to me. That's really cheap to me IMO.

Then hes got "blonde hash" which I assume is kief. Definitely picking that shit up for $15 a gram. At least 2g.

Finally "chocolate hash" which I'm assuming is slang for bubble. No way I can resist good bubble at $20 a g. Scared to see how much I spend on that.

Also looking like if I've got any cash left I'll be trying a tincture FINALLY. Never had a good tincture that actually worked.

Clearly you can see that I'm no longer worried that much about BHO. I think stuff in the parts per billion is not a huge deal. I will be switching to Co2 if the dispensaries here offer that, and I'm still playing with everclear extractions trying to get something amazing. Gotta try my last batch. BHO is fine for right now, but I want closed loop BHO in the future, hopefully that is what dispensaries here carry since testing is required under MA law when they open. CO2 would be ideal, but thats hardly a common option unless you get it from a dispensary. Everclear I need more work and testing. Don't fear the BHO, but lets work and make it better.

I was caught up in the fear, and I still don't like it. I have no better options besides making everclear oil, which I am working on. I mean those stupid toxic candles from girly stores are practically always burning in my house, and they haven't killed me yet.

darkrom

Great Scott!
Lol. I'm not the one buying candles. Who am I to judge vices. That's my whole point is everything is bad these days. I'm not too worried about my bho in comparison to everything else these days.

I would never tell anyone else how to determine their own health risks, but I am not worried about butane extractions (that I do myself). From the white pages I have read toxicity levels are less of an issue than many other substances encountered daily.

For me, I have not seen a good alternative. Have tried many alcohol concentrates and never liked a one, always some residual taste. Most anything I have run across like co2, winterized, most vac purges, etc. are so tasteless I refuse to bother w/ them. I've found the same to be true of overpurged bho. I don't even like over filtered/diffused glass as it eliminates most flavor.

This sounds familiar... http://io9.com/5877587/the-first-artificial-sweetener-poisoned-lots-of-romans

JK. There is no issue with properly made/purged BHO. I have to ask though, have you had a chance to sample grape alcohol extracted concentrate and/or solventless extracted meds?

Snake Plissken

Never w/ grape alcohol. I know that grape (seed) has medical benefits.

I have probably done around 20 bubble bag runs, only achieving 'full melt' maybe 6 times. Yield is always ridiculously low.

I've done maybe 4 ice extractions and they were all virtually flavorless.

Back in the day, everyone loved the Lebanese blonde hash. Rooms full of stoned people, and me just frustrated. I always preferred the afghani black. Used to get bricks w/ the gold ak-47 freedom fighter stamp. Turns out, it was probably the high opium content that kept us coming back.

My favorite is probably scissor/finger hash. Nothing tastes quite like it - but I don't do large enough runs to ever get much. Oregon has stupid restrictions on plant counts.

I do realize that even the substances we consider safe have never been studied from the perspective of long term inhalation.

I do finish my bho pretty hot, until it 'clears'. appearance is usually between clear amber to molten gold. consistency is usually like honey that has sat open on a counter and begun to solidify - pretty much like oldschool opium. Some strains will wax on there own.

Edit: I am speaking to my own experiences and am not saying that there are not good concentrates made w/ any of the methods I haven't had much success with.
