Here's the water n cotton theory at work: Small tuft of 100% cotton, wet pretty thoroughly, then approx. 3/4 squeezed out. Shaped to mouth of GonG and pressed in about 1/2 inch (pic shows differently than when used to vape). Set level @ 6.

Draw was not impacted significantly! Rips came through the H2O/cotton noticeably cooler, allowing for a fuller rip before cough impulse. Exhale very nice cloud! Overall Rating: 9.3 vs. David Goldstein Micro Fritted Disc Bubbler. IMPRESSIVE!

EDIT: One additional VERY INTERESTING thing was noticed - when the inside of my top lip came into contact with the H2O/cotton, it became very hot! This PROVES that the filter is removing HEAT before the throat!

Wow! Fantastic experiment. IMO successfully isolated the area of interest and approached it from a fresh direction. Bully! Exactly what I was hoping for, thanks very much for the information.

You obviously took the comparison idea a lot more seriously than I did, and for sure you travel in better circles than I do. I'm just a casual Bubbler user, it's great to have a 'pro' confirm my subjective observations there. I had no trouble saying it seemed better, how much I wasn't at all sure of.

Do you think it impacts the flavor a lot? I'm thinking only minorly, at that in the first few hits? No doubt about it, though, I can kick it up a notch or two and not choke.....

Thanks again, please keep the experiences coming?

Wait hold on...so you have herb in the bottom where it normally is and put a piece of cotton on the top/mouthpiece part before connecting it to the wt????????????
OF was this what you were trying to say cause you know sometimes I am just dense:ko:.

Believe it or not I actually have cotton loaded as I just did my first reclaim run. I just scrapped the oils from my iso jar out of my pyrex but having a hell of a time getting it all out. In the mean while I got tired so used some iso to clean the razor blade and said wtf I will stick it in the solo. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO if you want me to do something special tell me now or forever hold your piece....please let me know what number to put the solo on as I don't know oils. I do herb at 3 if that helps.

Yeah, give or take. He just took the idea (a damp cotton wick in the airpath above the load) and implemented it in a different (and IMO clever) way. I am putting the damp cotton in the top two inches of the normal stems, he's using the shorter GonG fitting with no WT (hitting it directly).

Which is how he came on the insight that heat was being held in the packing.....I can't quite lick the pipe cleaner in my scheme you see......

As to hitting oil in your Solo you're on your own. Sounds to me like you're about to do a "Vitolo worthy" experiment to me.

Good luck Lady. If you survive we'd love to hear about it.

Oh I think I get it...you use the wet cotton/pipe cleaners on top just to moisturize :bang:.

Taxi any suggestions on temp I should use?

I will be back mark my words.

Yes, I think the flavor is affected, but not for a reason that might SEEM obvious (i.e., not all flavor is lost in the filter)- let me explain simply if I can: The further up the stem and closer to the mouth opening the wet filter is, the longer/higher up the stem the vapor-flavor has to travel while given more room to expand (think of a sliding musical flute where the tone deepens the farther down the holes are plugged). While ascending, the vapor (aerosol) becomes less dense and penetrates the filter with fewer molecules passing through at a time to the flavor senses. Being cooler and less dense allows for longer more comfortable rips, but the flavored molecules are spaced farther apart and become more difficult for the senses to pick up and realize a fuller potency, hence the flavor is diminished some. The end results, I think, is very little vapor lost at the filter yet presents less dense at the pallet and before the lungs, where it all comes back to rest before the exhale. Same as if you add 2 cans of water instead of 1 to your Campbell's Alphabet soup. You're still going to eat the whole pot, alphabet intact, but it's gonna taste thinner. Of course one must allow for the relative amount that gets trapped in the wet fiber, but for me that's indeterminable given limited senses and on such small scale. This is just a theory that I won't argue great weight for, and look forward to hearing others!

Hey guys, throwing an update or two out here for your viewing pleasure. I have heard about the PA getting very hot while driving and using. This is due to the car voltage going from 12 to 15 or so volts while the engine is running. The solution has been to affix the step down unit to a vent to keep it from getting too hot. Have to mention the internal thermo protection of the device would prevent any extreme heat and simply shut down until it cools. Also, the unit only heats while the Solo heater is on and cools rapidly. I have not had any complaints but this has been bothering me so.....

For any future orders I will be including this tri-function device which acts as external heat sink/shield/hanger for the step down unit. Otherwise know as a "Fold Back Binder 2" wide 1" max". Under a buck and ends up being a common size.

I have found that this orientation works best with the hot side facing the rear. Increases the heat dissipation area substantially.

This clip can be used in many different configurations for attaching to automotive venting. For the enthusiast, I suppose a hole could be drill in the rear of the clip to mount it to some frame somewhere. The side squeeze bars can be removed if need be as well.

Also, in keeping in the FC spirit, I will be including a complimentary O ring with each order as well.
Since one fits nicely as a spare in my next project which is getting closer all the time. Going to have another, "how is that done" show. Not too far o

And just to add that for anyone who has already ordered an AIO will be getting a very special price if they have an interest.;)

I think that's it.:\

Pipes

pipes, tha is for this updates. I added a 2nd clamp to use as a holder\hanger. Perfect setup to keep by my bedside.... Now please hurry with the PA stand adaptor. *grin*

Excellent. Been playing around a bit myself. I found and recommending the clip placement as shown below.

ClipPlacement_zps2e432393.jpg

The unit is facing hot side inwards as to even out the heat distribution best. Leaving a gap between hot side and the rear of clip as well. Just made opposite sides of clip even with the regulator.

Finding locations in the car seems to have good options too.

I just wedged it in the vent control and swing it into the air stream.

As for the cradle, is the urethane I smell? ;)

Pipes, is that a tablet mounted in your car?
Well kind of. It's a GPS unit with reverse cam. But actually a way China dumps the old WinCE tables by just dedicating it towards a couple functions. In this case runs iGo.
Picked it up for like $60 a couple years back then added the REV cam.

Switching topics, figured I'd share the way I have been cleaning my f-BOMB.
The ISO and salt works fine but have been trying other things as low on ISO and clean nightly.

Note: All methods follow with hot water rinse.

Salt and vinegar, not bad.
Windex (ammonia) also not bad, slightly better then salt and vinegar.
Liquid lighter fluid, very good
ISO and salt, very good.

Now for the one that surprised me.
Ol Murphy's Oil Soap. I picked mine up at the dollar store. This stuff has been around longer then OF.:)

Just put in a cap full along with hot water, cover the ends and shake for a good 30 seconds. Now have to be careful, it makes the glass extremely slippery. Keep a good grip. Rinse until no more soap and glass squeaks. This takes longer then other detergents because of the oily nature. Blow through any last drops.
When done, she shines like new through all the glass layers.

Thanks for the info, and sorry about the slight de-rail. Keeping on that mildly off-topic thread, have you tried using PBW for cleaning glass? It needs to soak for a while (I do overnight) and it does make the glass slippery as well, but it works so well! I got a 1lb tub for $10 at a local homebrew store, I'm sure it can be sourced online cheaper. I'm not sure what it would do to the logo on the outside, though (if you soaked it all in a bucket or something), perhaps it would peel off, perhaps not. I think it would look cleaner without the label, personally.

Planet Vapes has a double adapter as well as Agua Labs.

I use mine as a carburetor.
That way I don't have to lift my vaporizer after a rip!

Fill your drawers with adapters and get creative!

Ataxian is using an ash catcher w/ a j-hook and the adapter in that pic. I don't know of a setup that comes with that adapter but you could build your own similar to his for around $60

I have a quick question about batteries... I ordered my solo through the recent massdrop offering, which is due to arrive today. I also ordered myself the power source from PV, so I don't have to rely on charging for at home use. My question is, can I just plug this bad boy in when I get it and use without the initial first charge? I don't want to damage the batteries in doing so. Part two of the question would be, if damage can occur to the batteries by doing this, is it possible to just remove them until I want to charge them and still use the solo? Can this be done easily? Thanks in advance!

Less the GonG & Double Female adapters:

Sherlock $11.00
Ash Collector $25.00
Clips = 2 x 0.80 = $1.60

Did you charge your batteries first though?
Just charge them however I don't think it matters?
I have been using the SOLO for 2 years already.
3 1/2 months ago I started using the POWER ADAPTER.
