Discontinued A Hot Pod

I was trying to figure out why you objected to removing the stem from the silicone each time and then I realised that a lot of people would have had experiences with silicone tubing where it kind of suctions onto the glass and is annoying to remove. You end up pulling really hard and then it comes off suddenly. The new design is nothing like that; it really is a pleasure to use :) I've found that silicone behaves differently depending on what you do with it. I've been both frustrated and delighted with its properties at different times :hmm: After having had months of difficulty with cutting it neatly, I have finally figured out a technique that gives nice straight cuts ;)

I had a session at a friend's place the other night, and I have to say that I now much prefer using the new pod. Apart from the (in my opinion!) improved usability, it also seems to do a better job of vaporization due to the airtight seal. I didn't think it would make much of a difference at first, but I seem to be getting consistently better results :D

Forgot to post my thoughts on the Old vs. New design...

+10 for the new design!!

Both me, and my friend that primarily uses the Hot Pod, agree that a tight silicone seal would improve the vaporizing experience of this device.

I had recently arranged to send mine back to Hazy so he could have a look at how it was going wear and tear wise. I have put quite a significant amount thru it as my daily driver, combined with running it at an extreme voltage.

Hazy was going to give it a tune up for me & as I said, check out how it was faring overall.

I had the address, the bubble wrap, and the box to put it in.
I held the pod in my hand, about to unplug it............................

Nup fuck that! I love this thing far too much.

I ran off to email hazy and explain that I almost had a anxiety attack thinking about not having it for a few days.

Hazy might have to come here & do an inhouse service instead.

Having a few personal ups and downs at the moment... thanks for the encouraging comments :)

I've been testing the new design and it's still going well. Performance is definitely superior to the previous version :brow: My main concern is with the longevity of the silicone, as it is kept constantly hot. No signs of any deterioration so far, but it has become discoloured through use due to resin rubbing off the stems. In any case, the silicone is easy to replace and I will eventually be providing spare parts if that should be necessary.

I'm thinking of getting a few beta units of the new design to see how they cope with different usage patterns. I'm a pretty light user so I don't consider my own testing to be exhaustive. Also, I need to go on a break for a while so I won't be able to continue testing for now. I haven't got access to my friend's workshop for a few weeks while he is interstate, so it looks like I won't be able to do much until then unfortunately.

I was wondering if anyone bought any of those power cords from Parts Express that NewVape posted a while back? I'd like to order some but because I'm an international customer I need to order $50 worth (+ postage). Before I go ahead I'd like to know if they are able to handle the heat over the long term. I'm getting pissed off with wasting time and money on stuff that isn't up to the job...

Have you found the discoloured silicone still holds the glass stem when the log is shaken upside down?

I've used very very old heat-exposed silicone stems with my other log vape and never noticed any downsides besides the silicone losing suction.

Yes the silicone still grips the same as always. Are you saying that your silicone has kind of hardened and therefore doesn't seal as well as it used to?

@hazy

if that is the extension adapter cord, then i got one. I think you posted a link to it on ebay or amazon for just a couple of bucks...is that right? If so, it works fine. I don't use it a ton, so I can't attest to its durability.

Those cords off ebay are ok for normal use, but if you like to run the pod really hot, then they do tend to melt after a while. The one I'm referring to is what NewVape used to make the cord for his variable power supply. He wrote up some instructions for it a few pages back.

How you doin' @hazy ? Any news on the new betas? How has the new design been working for you?

My Pod is still going strong here! I have seized using my Ehle these days as I am low on botanicals and I need minimum condensed vapor... I use the GonG stem attached to the Ehle's downstem and at 13,5-14V it's smooth as silk and sooo sooo tasty... I have it in rotation with my new beloved toy (Lotus) and I usually have a hard time picking one. I might start flipping coins... I love them both so much but when I just need to lay back and sip, I choose the Pod over the Lotus which needs some more attention! :D It's also better at warming me up since it's getting chilly over here! :smug: I am not so sure users of other log vapes use them as hand warmers so easily... They need to pay attention at those scorching SS heater tubes! The POD IS SAFE!!!

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I'm only up to page 15. But I haven't seen the price yet or if there is a waiting list. Thanks.

Get in touch with @hazy, the maker of the Pod... Who knows? Maybe you end up with a beta unit... ;)
Thanks for the tip but I will wait for the finished units. Been vaping for years with all types of vapes but have absolutely no experience with log style vapes and I here that they are in a league of their own. Don't think I would be a good beta candidate since I have never used a log before. I'm on the HI waiting list and was trying to jump on this bandwagon as well. I really have a thing for finely crafted wood and this wood is so unique and gorgeous.

@Mods: apologies in advance if I wasn't supposed to mention another product here.

Edit: actually, this wood is so beautiful, I wouldn't mind having a beta unit. Even if it didn't work. I'd like to just touch it and hold it and have it on my desk. It looks like a great conversation piece.

My Hot Pod beta unit is still going strong day after day. (Hazy rocks!)

If you dig the banksia pod look but don't want to wait for the Hot Pod, you might want to check with Underdog Dave--iirc, he has made one or more with banksia pods and does custom orders too. :2c:

Thanks, I thought this particular wood was exclusive. Good tip.

beta update!

Getting close to a 1yr old Hot Pod.
Unfortunately, the power plug has gotten looser, and looser. Now it'll barely stay in.
Looks like it'll need some CPR pretty soon.

PS: I had this exact same issue with the plastic ports in the underdog log vape. Meanwhile my Rockzap, which is much older, has a perfect power plug connection.

The difference? Rockzap used a metal port!
However, from what I understand the metal ports take up much more size in the interior. Could see why that wouldn't be doable with the Hot Pod design.

What do you mean when you say "port"?

The part on the vape where the cable plugs into.

On the left is a plastic port that went very loose on me.
Middle is a custom metal port that holds like glue after many many months.
Right is the rockzap metal port
