The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Yeah I am directly drawing from the whip, still pretty new to this so no glass yet. I could set it lower to the ground but the problem is there is nowhere to put the hose and its a hassle to repack it but luckily I found another solution :)

I took my sisters hair clip and put it where the hose kinks and surprisingly its able to hold the hose up.. It'll work for now until I find a more attractive option lol.
2ppfnk6.jpg

Thank you for the suggestion though, I probably would have never started thinking of ideas without the kickstart :D I haven't tried it with the new hose yet but even with the SSV wand and the stock hose it makes a huge difference.. Easier to draw, bigger elbow packs and more vapor, well worth the money IMO.. Hopefully the adapter will come in tomorrow!

you could go to home depot and get an "anti-kink" spring for hoses from the plumbing section or the plumbing store.

One thing is bothering me:
how to keep the screen inside the cyclon bowl? It keeps on "jumping" out. Should I cut it to make it fit better, or force it?

Hi YetAnotherUsername, when I was using the original cyclone bowl, I cut my screen to fit flat. Worked better for me that way. Others have bent it so it resulted in a upside down dome shape (picture an upside down bowl). This seemed to hold the screen in place a bit better.

Now the F/F adapter you see in past posts, being adopted by many in place of the original cyclone bowl, actually has a ledge that holds the screen in place. The screen size that fits in this adapter snugly is the same size as a US quarter. You may wish to obtain one of these off eBay.

Today my SSV wand came! It works great with the DDave f/f adapter. One thing I found different was that the elbow screen kept the wand from going all the way into the connector.....so I pushed it and it went in but when I pulled the wand out the elbow screen was stuck in the f/f adapter. First I thought now I got to go pop this thing out but then I thought, wait if its in there nice and tight, i'm leaving it in. So I tested a few loads and man this thing is amazing. I can confirm DDave's findings about this set up.

Salutations,

...about 90 seconds to reach 200C...

I suppose YMMV, considering that on the sibling Arizer V-Tower it's 220 °C in about the same period of 90 seconds (my typical score). It turns out i was about to post on this specific subject, actually... Something about how pre-heating improves my sessions, to be exact. Well, pre-heating isn't the same as vaporizing, of course.

While i think of it lets mention my "sweet-spot" is near the 175 °C - 187 °C range. I fill the Arizer glass Cyclone blow with a load approximately equivalent to that used in my modded VG pipe, which would be around 150 mg i guess. By the way, sometimes it's easy to fill up but there's no real need as taste lasts long. Of course the thicker the better though i think 6 pipe bowls is too much so i usually stop at 3... Yet low quantities work, i'm just starting to get the hang of it since last evening, to be exact: the Arizer Cyclone (Tuffbowl, eventually!) accessories incorporate a radiant heat element not very different from that of my old HerbalAire, now retired. The difference i see would have to do with being permanent versus transient/temporary. Yet, this pre-heating feature takes an active part in my session, before i select my cruise temperature (e.g. "sweet-spot") and insert the load - which will start to vape quickly because of heat retention in Arizer's glass Cyclone bowl. Their Toffbowl should be about the same i presume.

Should I cut it...

Always cut all enslaving ties! Euh...

Ah yes, the screen inside a glass Cyclone bowl. I'd say bend near the edge to raise/enhance surface contact where the screen normally sits on the glass part. It's also important to take benefit of glass by cleaning it as needed, naturally. So, mine is in good shape so far. The 94 % concentrated grain alcohol they sell around here takes care of oily residues. Warm water & soap still seem like a reasonable idea once in awhile.

...

SamirFuzzyWuzzy, i must say i like that picture! This tells me performance at low temperature must have been enhanced, possibly.

...the F/F adapter you see in past posts, being adopted by many in place of the original cyclone bowl, actually has a ledge that holds the screen in place.

Good to know! Now there's a nice snapshot of it to admire, at last... I'm thinking the mass of this glass piece must be significantly less than that of an Arizer glass Cyclone bowl. Maybe i'll want to pre-heat below 220 °C if i ever come to evaluate this!

That is Awesome, samirfuzzywuzzy! Thanks for the feedback and really Glad to hear you seeing the same performance increases from this setup! Really makes for a nice unit, doesn't it?

On the elbow screen issue, I've not run into the issue of it catching on the F/F adapter. Would be my guess that the metal ring part of your elbow screens are wider than mine (I have 4 and no catching on the adapter from any... but none are wider than the opening of the SSV Wand).

Have a great weekend! (Hope you get a chance to really break in the new setup!) :science:

Yes man...it does make for a really nice setup.

It funny that I also have 4 elbow screens also. My suspicion is that the screens are the same but my f/f is the cause or the wand it self it might be tapering a mm or so to much/less.

I do not want to make any comparisons here but this damn thing is really got that kick to it I've been looking for, for a while now. I can see myself using this thing much more in my rotations now.

This evening I am going to make a piece that goes in the tube end of the wand that makes a pinch in the air path for flavor reasons (think chillium). Ill report back soon.

Agreed! Great extraction performance now! Can fill 1/2 SSV Wand, vape at approx 185C and extract the goodies in 4-5 huge draws :smug: (instead of 10-20 whispy draws using the original glass setup).

Can't wait to hear about this!!!!

Haven't tried adding the SSV wand to the equation yet, but rocking a custom F-F bowl very similar to the DDave adapter -- just wondering what the wand adds to the equation over the elbow pack in the stock elbow male-tube fitting?

I've got another male-tube adapter that isn't at an angle (shoots straight up) into which I could fit an elbow screen - would that be a similar effect, or is there something more special about the SSV wand?

Keep rockin' the mods! For science! :science:

Hi TommydCat, The elbow pack with the F/F adapter worked very nicely. Then at the advice of Tweak (and idea of TMK), added the SSV Wand to the equation.

Differences noticed:
- Far less drag during a draw.
- elbow pack performance relating to vapor density
- greater taste during first draws
- worked well with large or small quantities of product
- much greater extraction per draw (nice clouds).
- ease of handling. (I dont stir any longer, just remove wand and shake. Double screen keeps all in place). Also, have not had the wand become too hot to touch, so easy to maneuver around too!
- more-even extraction (AVB consistant color, rather than difference that is seen by partial bowl processed and some remains green, unprocessed. Now ABV is a consistant color.).

One thing I noticed when I first switched over to the F/F adapter, since it simply had a large screen across the entire inside diameter, rather than an intrusive ledge as with the cyclone which redirected airflow, was that the Arizer heater seemed to allow air to flow unevenly towards the bowl & product. The product would pile up on one side of the F/F adapter, because more hot air was pushed from one side of the heater than the other. With current setup, F/F adapter and SSV Wand, probably due to leaving the screen in place in the F/F adapter and the elbow screen in the Wand, believe the hot air is diffused much more evenly through the product. Resulting in more efficient and even extraction. This is only a theory surmised by watching the product move around in the Wand and checking the condition of the ABV after product is spent. Engineers, techies, please feel free to chime in!

And absolutely, all in the name of Science! :science:

w/r/t the air turbulance and elbow packs - my adapter has a bit more opening inside it (that can potentially fit a lot of product when filling that method) that I've been putting a bit of cotton in which seems to smooth the airflow quite a bit, or at least enough I don't feel compelled to stir anymore.

I would very much like less drag; I'm now using about an 8" long 5/16" ID silicone tube so I'm open to any and all other options! I've considered trying a 1/2" ID tube, but don't think that's very significant versus length. The F-F adapter opened quite a deal of constriction, with the cotton still much better than the cyclone. I've noticed how quickly the elbow screens can get constricted, and I've noticed different flows between different elbows pieces, so consistency is in question.

Otherwise I'll take my questions to the SSV thread where it seems more relevant, but again, thank you! :)

Tube ID options are better with the SSV wand and it holds quite a bit of material too. I find the extraction much better just as mentioned by DDave.

Here is a pinch/restriction I created to help get some negative pressure in the chamber. This is in hopes to improve flavor and maybe even boost the extraction some more.

20130906_180043.jpg

I set it all up with f/f adapter, SSV wand, restriction pinch, heat shield, and a small tire perc bubbler. The results were amazing.

20130906_180928.jpg

I would also like to mention that this setup is also more friendly with lower temps for mornings and does higher temps even better in the evening. I can get up to 400-410 with no popcorn taste and even extraction. The biggest thing i noticed was that with the F/F screen removed and the elbow screen being the first heat diffuser in the line I got much more cloudy hits and especially true with low temps.

Help!
I’ve been lurking on this forum for a while. I’ve had my Extreme Q since April (4/20 to be exact). I have some questions if anyone could answer please! :)

1) I was thinking of trying to utilize the ballon more often. I thought about various ways to convert it to a more volcano like design to reduce drag with 90 degree angle the elbow has AND to create a wider opening for the ballon itself (rather than using the small tube itself. Any idea’s?

2) Anyone know if there is a more powerful fan that will fit in the same slot? URL’s would be appreciated if you have one.

3)I like DDave’s adapter creation (keeping the herb closer to the heating element sounds like a great start). Where do I get one? The ebay site on post 246 says sold out.

Thanks for your help everyone! :bigleaf:
And sorry for beating a dead horse on these questions. :horse:

Nice Setup samirfuzzywuzzy!

Did you find your negative pressure pinch has increased flavor? Or extraction?

Hi Vapinator, Thanks. The F/F adapter and SSV Wand have really improved the performance of my Arizer. Hope you see the same results! (Awesome flavor, express extraction...)

Thanks Samirfuzzywuzzy and DDave!!!

I’m going to look into getting DDave adapter this Friday after I get paid. What SSV wand should I get?

Also do you guys know anything about boosting the fan speed by replacing it with a new improved fan? Thanks again!

Salutations Vapinator,

...keeping the herb closer to the heating element...

A shorter accessory translates as having less glass which results in less mass and hence less heat retention, right? For those willing to shorten delays i think it was a great suggestion to make, but... The reduced distance though also implies eventual incidents would take place faster so i'd want heat-refractory material for my screen, e.g. a ceramic filter would seem ideal in this 18.5 mm Female-to-Female adapter.

So, by any chance... Does anyone know if it exists already?...

Hi Vapinator,
Wand I have is seen here... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Ground-...R-SURFER-VAPORIZER-/271242678548#ht_601wt_883
Regarding a fan replacement, I've not looked into swapping, though I believe the fan model number is listed in this thread, should you wish to research alternatives.

Hi Egzoset,
I find my experience with this setup to be an increased glass path and greater heat retention. You see, when I was using the original cyclone bowl for either cyclone bowl loads or elbow packs, during a session I would remove the cyclone bowl from the heater to empty/stir. So heat retention was questionable.

With new F/F adapter and SSV Wand configuration, since the Wand is capped at both ends by a screen I never need to remove the F/F adapter during a session as there's no emptying. And stirring is simply removing the Wand and shaking it... so in this case the F/F adapter also becomes part of the glass heat path. (I can definitely see the difference in vapor production when the adapter is cold vs. hot.)

Hello FC,

This is my first post. I am the owner of MFLB, Pax, and Extreme-Q. I recently purchased the Extreme to have a desktop unit I could get comfortable with. I do not know if I got a bum unit or what but I cannot seem to get anything other than a very mild light vapor from the unit. I have tried packing the cyclone bowl, packing the elbow, letting the glass heat up for 20 minutes on 230C and then hitting. after 20 min on 230C, I can put my hand on top of the heat hole and not feel like it is going to burn my hand. I tried letting it warm with the fan on. This seemed to help a little but still weak. I have tried leaving it on 230 with the fan on and hitting the whip. It helped but still very weak in comparison to what I get from Pax or MFLB. Any ideas on what to check?

Thanks,
Puff

Hey puff well your obviously not a newb when it comes to vaping. Have you tried filling the bag yet?

I reciently dug out and found the power unit for my extreme Q i purchased 3 years ago. I hardly used the extreme Q back then and found the log vapes more efficient for getting the most out of my herb. But lately I was wanting more heavy hittting hits than i got from the log vapes. and after finding and getting the old exterme Q up and running again I am loving what this unit does. I was looking into getting a SSV thinking that i need that to get big hits but not so. After re-experiencing and using the Q for a few weeks i am loving the bag feature.

What about the type of herb your using? I find i get a few bags off of regs. and many more bags off of hydro or medical quality herb loaded with thc. I like starting off at 200C and fill a bag or 2 then step up to 210 for another few bags then 220 again a few bag fills and stepping up in 10C increments to 240C that woks well for me.

I have since retired my log vapes and am now using the Q full time morning noon and night on a daily basis

Hi Purple, I did try the bag but basically same result, mild, uncloudy vapor. The best device I have is the MFLB. That thing is amazing and conserves herb like crazy. I haven't hit regs in quite some time. The same herb I have works fine in MFLB and Pax. I was thinking of Vapir Rise or waiting out the Herbalizer. I guess I will take the EQ apart and see if something obvious is causing my issue.

Salutations DDave,

I find my experience with this setup to be an increased glass path and greater heat retention.

Well, i can't understand how this could be so. The Cyclone/Tuffbowl accessory seemed to be larger...

...during a session I would remove the cyclone bowl from the heater to empty/stir. So heat retention was questionable.

Perhaps i'll just explain how i understand my thing. Temperature as displayed doesn't reflect what's going in my bowl so i power up @ 220 °C (it takes approximately 90 seconds) and then i let it go a few more minutes before it's time to start my HA pump for yet another minute; once i feel it's sufficiently thermalized i lower the setting to 192 °C and thermalize again... At that point it's ready so i delicately transfer my Cyclone bowl to some glass/ceramic support besides, for loading, then i put it back in place (half-filled) without delay and lower to 185 °C. Starting from there my bowl's heat retention becomes a decisive part of the session, though there's more ritual involved in using that heat i believe.

...I cannot seem to get anything other than a very mild light vapor...

Perhaps if the glass is hot then that's where things go wrong: inhalation techniques, ritual. I still need to adjust mine so i'll pass on ritual so far.

...I never need to remove the F/F adapter... ... I can definitely see the difference in vapor production when the adapter is cold vs. hot...

Ah, that's the part i'll need to revisit to get a better idea. Well i find the V-Tower is too much convection but that's great because this particular structure is open to add-ons: in fact it wouldn't be too difficult to add a "FLASH" heater stage where there was only glass before, while it's not so practical to remove the conduction/radiative effect(s) in an HerbalAire heat-exchanger (for example!)... To me this confers the V-Tower neo-educational value: few brands/models offer such clear view on a bowl. I wish this neat feature were fully exploited with properly located night lightning.

The DDave f/f I have is actually heavier on a scale then the cyclone's that I have. F/F is made of thicker glass depending on which link you used to buy it. Also the the SSV wand is a HUGE THICK chunk of glass compared to an elbow.

Heat retention can be boosted by using a beer coozie. it deflects your a/c, fans, ventilation...ect. and also keeps in a lot of heat from the heater rather then let it waft away fast.

@DDave
loving the restriction pinch. It helps me meter my drag by visually being able to see vapor in the ssv wand. Im getting so cloudy I cant see the monitor any more.

Agreed. The adapter is thicker than the Cyclone, and if used with the Wand as described, never has to be removed from the heater during your session, making it a good extension of the heated glass path. (My SSV Wand doesn't really get overly hot after the colored design dots just after the flat screen.)

I love this setup, not only for performance, but ease of use. It's awesome to take a draw, remove wand, shake it (instead of stiring), put back on adapter and draw again. Repeated until product is ready to be dumped in ABV jar (which is the only time I remove the elbow screen to dump and reload).

@samirfuzzywuzzy, nice results! Thanks for documenting and posting the pictures of your setup! Will definitely continue experimenting, though I believe the F/F and SSV Wand are the most cost effective options in boosting performance of these units.

Just wanna say you guys are fucking awesome!! You didn’t talk down to me or call me a dumb noob or whatever… And on that note, I just wanna add the following:

I can’t believe the love I get from the 420 friendly community. I am a late bloomer. I never did ANYTHING until I was way into my 30’s due to my families extremely strict upbringing. When I took the plunge, I obviously fell in love with MJ and the community as a whole (not to say there aren’t A-holes in that community). I tell my closest friend that it saved my life… I can’t even begin to tell you how.

Everyone has been super nice. Everyone from here to the hydro store or even passers by who see me use my MFLB in concerts. Ironically, I used to be a prick who thought that tokers were this or that. Now I have “converted” 5+ people way into their 30’s or 40’s to it, and now they are on the same page I am.

So thanks for the advice. It’s totally truly appreciated!! As soon as I get paid and get a little extra cash, I’m going to get these additions. Thanks again! Toke on fellow tokers!:bigleaf:
