We're here to fuck shit up.
Only half the element glows on mine, even at full temp. The very tip does not glow and it does not glow towards the base. It's only the middle part of the element that glows.

I've put a screen in the top of my wpa (not really fixed there, just for testing) and now it makes vapour at full temperature. Looks like a screen mod would help me, but I couldnt figure a way to fix it tight there, it keeps falling.. doesnt fit..

Any pictures on how to make a screen mod?

Or this, if you struggle with shaping it intuitively:
d70d.jpg

Here is my first attempt on the left, I believe it is a stock SSV .625" (5/8th") screen that goes in my mini Vapor Bros wand. On the right is a .750" (3/4th") screen.
4re2.jpg

Fold screen in half, pinch with clamps
zcfv.jpg

Unfold screen while still clamped
3n1b.jpg

Finish by crimping the end tighter, continue to the other side
pko6.jpg

Fold in half again, repeat previous steps
qnrc.jpg

Until four corners are folded

My first attempt was much better, but this appears to be good enough.

LSV should be here by next week, getting that Christmas-ey feeling!:brow:

lol i cant shape my screens to fit in any way.. not enough hand skills :S

Post a picture like you said you were going to do. I have no idea what is wrong with yours, it doesn't really make sense.. You shouldn't have to have it all the way up, are you sure you're hitting it the right way? What kind of herbs are you vaporizing? Do you grind it up? Do you let it heat up enough at a temp before you vape? You should make a video of you hitting it, because I just find it hard to believe that two of your units would be messing up, especially when you just got a new one.

Your element looks just like mine and glows just as brightly as mine when turned all the way up. I still think it might be the WPA that is causing your issues. I just don't understand how it is turned all the way up and isn't producing ridiculously thick vapor or even smoke for that matter. The picture of the knob, is that turned as far as it can go? That is about my halfway point. A video when you can please, sir.

like i said before, it seems to be working now as i used a screen on the top of my WPA. But it's not fixed there, is just thrown and falling inside the wpa.. Couldnt figure a way to fit the screen tight there yet..

Did you try the fix that I posted above regarding the heating element?

Also, where is the dial set when you turn it up to max?

This is one of the main reasons why I always recommend the shorty WPA. The long one, unless filled up, sets the bud too far from the heater.

If your using the wpa like it is in the second picture that's too close to the lsv when it sits on top. The screen mod might be your only hope, your sure you can't do that ?

Got my WPA today (the shorty, 'natch) damn thing hits like a train. whoooooo!

It's also a lot more efficient than I was expecting, makes using larger glass pieces with the LSV just awesome. Thick massive hits, almost like I was combusting again. It probably won't be my daily drive but I sure do love it.

Only downside is you have to take the LSV cover off completely, I found it awkward to use with just the end cap removed.

lwien, i tried the mod you posted, it was on the "STD-" and i could pull it to "std-100-", i think less than 1cm.. but maybe it helped too.. I have to figure out a way to fix the screen on the top!!!

You did? Why?

The metal cowling was sort of catching on the lip of my WPA every time I used it (as my glass heater cover won't sit 100% straight) and it seemed to scrape the edge when rotating the wand in the bowl.

Plus I can see the flowers in the WPA bowl easier with it removed and I find that a huge plus.

I don't find removing the whole cover to be an issue, so I'm not really concerned. :)

In that picture, I'm using a medium sized screen. It ended up moving around when I'd try to stir up the material, so I replaced the screen with a larger one. The larger one is far more stable and doesn't budge even when stirring the material in the bowl. Just mess around with screen and crimp the edges of the screen until you're happy with your product. What I'd do personally is take a trip to your LHS, pick up a variety of screens in different sizes, and get to testing :)

Best of luck to you, man. When you do get your LSV working completely, you will not be disappointed.

Would somebody please compare the LSV to the DBV for me as far as cloud production goes.
They're so similar I'm assuming the clouds are pretty much the same.
If anybody has experience with both units I'd love to hear about the differences I could expect if I switched.
I'm thinking about buying (or trading for) an LSV because using plastic tubing's gettin' old. I want all-glass.

I recently got to try an LSV, and while I haven't used a DBV, I own its prettier brother in the SSV. The real difference is when the hose gets dirty, you loose some of the phenomenal taste. Otherwise it's the same heater, both produce CLOUDS. So I'd either shorten the hose (and clean it every now and then) or go the LSV route. GL with your decision.

Thanks Bran. I forgot to include SSV owners.
The hose is definitely the thing that bothers me the most when using my DBV.
Besides that, I love everything about it (which is probably why I'm so interested in an LSV).

Did you see Menzies all glass mouthpiece for his DBV? It's in the DBV thread. No more whip. It's fuckin big though!

I had a similar SSV/LSV dilemma a while ago. People were praising the LSV's optimization for use with water-tools so, having just bought a new Surfer, I was worried that the grass was greener on the Saber side. I contacted my retailer and they said they could give me a refund although, obviously given the nature of vaporizers, it would've been a chore to ship it back to them. Finally, with some advice from those who'd tried both, I decided to stick with the Surfer, as it's probably the better primary unit given my vapor habits. For one, I can leave it on 24/7 without any fear of burning the house down. Also, I have it sitting on a table next to my computer, so the motions for vapor-bonging are much easier. Rather than having to lift an entire unit over breakable glass I simply pop the adapter/hose out of the bubbler when I want to clear the chamber. Simple :)

So all in all it comes down to personal preference. If the hose is your worst enemy then it may be worth going for the LSV. :D

I love my SSV and I only brought it originally as a backup but when it come to hot Glass on Glass action the LSV cannot be beat. I love it more and more each day the only downside is all the money I spent on glass since getting it. :)

I agree with all of this, except the LSV can do anything the SSV can, even be a desktop vape. It just requires a little effort. But clamp it in place with some clearance at a nice angle and it's almost as good as a desktop vape as a SSV. plus you can use it with a whip, wand, adapter or the phat WPA.

Yeah I remember seeing that dry custom piece he had made. There was also another one a few posts later with a bubbler attached that was nearly all-glass but ergonomics is also a factor in my decision. I like to be able to sit on my recliner while I vape instead of having to stand up every time I wanna take a hit.

I keep reading that vaping with the LSV is best between 12 and 3 o clock, that sucks for me as I normally vape in the evening. What is it that makes the LSV work best at those hours of the day? Seems kind of strange, how would it even know the time of day?

Just kidding, I know you're talking about the knob position.

BTW another forum member offered to sell me 2 replacement wands for considerably less than one would have cost on their website so I accepted his offer and wait get to get them and use my LSV again, at least I use my Pax in the meantime but it's not as efficient.
