zmurder: I respectively disagree.

Most all other vapes need the exposed surface area since their heat alone just doesn't penetrate the bud as effectively, or evenly. It's the turbulent flow design of the HA (combined with the heat), that allows even whole buds to be penetrated thoroughly and evenly, thus getting all the cannabinoids (not just the surface), giving it's superior extraction.

When you grind, you rip apart the trichomes, losing precious actives and terpenes, and drying to make grinding easier, also loses the volatile actives and terpene components (this also introduces more particulates). The more you handle the bud before vaping, the more actives losses there are, so I cannot see how grinding gets more cannabinoids to us vs. not grinding, overall. It sounds like you are basing "better" vapour by it's "visibility", which is incorrect, imo.

I haven't owned a vape and after a week of research I have leaned towards the HA. Is this a good choice for a first time user? and also, what is the average life span of a HA? Are there owners that have had theirs for 5-10 years?

Herb Puffer: The HA is an excellent choice for a first vape. It is reliable, rugged as hell and very easy to use. It also lets the user try the different modes of vapourizing, namely, bags, whip, direct, and direct to your glass.

I've been using mine now for over 5 years, as my daily driver, without a problem. I just make sure to clean the unit, and it's parts, occasionally.

thanks nicelytoasted for the quick response. I think I have made up my mind with the HA. Lastly, has anyone had experience ordering the HA from planetvape.ca?

I love the HA and use it solely......but I think a good caveat for a first time vaporizer buyer is that the HA may not be so great as it comes stock -- indeed I've never used it in whip or bag mode!-- yet I use the HA daily and have for over a year. The HA really excels at vape-bonging, even just with the stock mouthpiece.

If you intend to use it in whip mode, I would honestly recommend a more "normal" whip vape like the VaporBrothers or Da Buddha as better first choices. If vape-bonging appeals to you, then the HA is nearly unbeatable.

I bought my HA from PlanetVape and had great service, though I no longer shop there since buying their POS HA GonG adapter which broke my first HA! PV is definitely respected around here and I'm in the minority on that one.

I read that HA uses more product than other vaporizers. is this true?

It is not necessarily true -- the HA definitely works well with small amounts of herb. BUT there is a tendency to fill the crucible all the way up. And since I top my herb with a screen, I find it easier to get the screen stuck in there when the crucible is nearly full.....so I can at least attest to the potential of the HA to use more product than other vaporizers.

do you have to top the herb with a screen via vapebonging? otherwise you will dump the herb when you turn the unit upside down, correct?

The screen isn't necessary but keeps things cleaner when using ground herb. I took the coarse screen out of my teflon mouthpiece but use a screen atop my ground bud in the crucible. Keeps things tidy and I can dump midway through and save for later If I want.

thanks for your responses zmurder! is it a big difference if you upgrade the stock whip to a larger diameter tube with glass mouthpieces? What size tube do you recommend, and which glass mouthpieces to fit that particular tube? and for vapebonging, I know you can put direct draw straight on the downstem, but can I also put the tube through the downstem and into the water?

Salutations TheHerbPuffer,

...HA uses more product than other...

I believe the "locomotive effect" can be attributed to this particular mix of convection, conduction and radiative heat in HA's large aluminium heat-exchanger which gives it such good reputation. Simply put though i eventually abandoned HA's white main teflon mouthpiece and opted for a "modd" based on a 4-holes Solo glass bent stem (by Arizer) featured with a piece of teflon ribon to seal the opening. My HA v2.1 is no longer in service but this particular Arizer Solo Glass Stem + HerbalAire Aluminium Crucible contraption still serves me well today.

A whip-style ceramic crucible is something i dreamed of for a long while as i recall.

:peace:

I bought my HA off eBay and got it in the mail today. everything looked like it was working until I tried to hit it.. at first I tried direct draw, nothing..put it up to my 14mm bong, nothing. attached the bag and pump to it and there was very little vapor and I deflated the bag in one hit. I'm thinking I got a dud guys. Should I call customer service and try to replace it?

HA doesn't produce big thick hits, right? At first i didnt think the unit was working properly, but i came to the conclusion that it just produces small, conservative hits. i put maybe .1 in and get 10-15 hits from direct draw and it really hits the spot.

I havent had any luck with vapebongnig yet. i have all stock materials and just stick the mouthpiece right up to my 14mm downstem. I get no more vapor than direct draw. My waterpipe is only 9 inches so maybe its too small to produce thick vapor?

Lastly, does DBV's whip fit over HA's mouthpiece?

Almost there...
Just had a quick session with my HerbalAire 2.2!
Arrived home from work and maybe 5 minutes later i was hitting the HA!
Pretty medicated now from a small amount of meds, very nice!

It came packed pretty well, the box inside was ripped which i found odd and the actual unit looks a bit beat up.
No worries though as it hits like a champ and my arms are going numb!! LOL!!!

Going to have to read through the threads to se the best way to use this little guy!
