Discontinued VRIPtech Heating Wand

Does any one else notice a very potent smell from the power cable? Its the only thing I don't like about the unit, they may have changed it by now since mine if from last summer but it is still just as strong. It concerns me that its the chemicals in the wires plastic and I really dont like touching it considering the smell lingers on your hands a little.

Other than that, hows everyone been?

Is this a joke? You can't be serious, shit man it's a power cable, your not chewing on it are you?

These kind of posts are getting ridiculous, maybe you should be living in a bubble.

No I'm not joking or chewing it. Maybe its just mine. Whats ridiculous about, clearly the chemicals in it are so strong that the odor is still there a year later. Unless they added that fragrance to it.

Okay, going to lay down around 600 aud (stupid dollar dropping just before I do an order) for some parts, including heat wand kit, vwtII kit and a few spare bits. Is there any way to contact vriptech by phone to go through the details of the order and estimated lead times for orders to Australia?

Luke you can drop Mark an email at headvripper@vriptech.com You will love the VHW, though you may want to explore a GonG alternative the the VWT and pick up a Blazemaster bowl to bring the cost down.

Also highly recommend the iolite mate :D

Oooooh now that's spooky, I was literally just thinking about u before I checked this thread for an answer! How ya doing bud? K and the kitties send their best. (family has increased to 5! :S )

Got a group order of around 700aud (stupid exchange rate) at the moment so I'll definitely drop Mark an email to confirm the details etc. Going for the vwt2 kit for myself and getting a couple of heat wands and kits for others at the same time. Loved the wand when a mate got one in, the heat gun version was awesome but the wand was the missing piece of the perfect pipe for me. :) The say when I inhale no tobacco is rapidly approaching... Check out my latest thread at OSA for what flavours will go through my new toys... :D

Will look into the blazemaster bowls too, thanks for the tip there. Another mate has an iolite too, great little thing, bloody ingenious. If I needed to blaze on the run that would definitely be on the list to get. The cost locally through brick and mortar shops here is nothing short of abominable though.

Thanks again for the tips. Will let everyone know how he whole thing goes. :)

Bit of an update, just got a reply from Mark saying that the new VHWA models won't be available for at least 4 weeks. :( Will have to play around with the order for now and see what the others want to do, wait or just get some parts now and make another order later.

Sounds like the new models will be improved though, which is great.

Got a package from vrip yesterday, they sent me a new wand that has the metal coil and a rubber ring to make the heater cover more secure. Hopefully this will help increase the life of my heater cover, which has a crack in it from the old wand this replaces, and so far it seems to be working great. Blazemaster slides also shipped this week, so I'll have some fun pictures and videos to post up soon.
Hey Durden, just wondering if your blazemaster slide arrived yet?
Mine shipped a day after you and I'm still waiting on it haha.

Sounds good Luke, but bloody hell 5 kitties now?

I'm going to start stocking the iolites and VHW's very soon, so we'll get the price down for us Aussies - I won't pimp the online store until it's up but stay tuned mate.

Nice! Hopefully I'll see mines before this Sat, so eager!
Are each of your slides made differently in terms of form & function?

He got bowls made that use the silicone still. It's all preference.

Just wait till they get dirty. They work the best dirty. They do almost have too much airflow. I had the finest mesh ti screen that aqualab had in my straight neck which helped a bit but it got clogged with heavy use and since it's such a fine mesh it's a pain to clean.

Bent neck helps restrict airflow as well same with 14mm. I think 18 would be waaaaaay too much.

Man I need to get my VHW fixed, all this talk about Blazemaster slides makes me want to take some Vrips, What you up to Minnesnowta let's get irie mon  but seriously I NEED to fix my VHW

I am Jack's title
These are my VHW slides, the 3 on the right are all BM bowls, and the one on the far left is locally blown.
DSC00987.jpg

Lets start with the standard BM slide (green yellow and black, second from the left) people have been purchasing with a 2.5 cm opening, with and without the silicone ring on the wand.
DSC01009.jpg

DSC00732.jpg

DSC01000.jpg

You'll notice right away that in both setups the wand sits on TOP of the bowl, and this does work. However the seal isnt great, and if you angle the wand at all you will lose the seal.
DSC01002.jpg

In this picture the seal has already begun to break, and extra air will flow into the bowl from outside the heat source, which illustrates the sensitivities of this setup and why I don't consider it ideal.

On to the new BM bowls, which have about a 2.8cm opening, what I measured to be the diameter of the wand with the silicone ring on.
DSC01007.jpg

DSC00994.jpg

DSC01003.jpg

Now the wand sits just inside the bowl with the silicone on, with the seal forming on the outside of the silicone ring instead of below it. This works, but even the slight variation between the red and the green bowl (red is immeasurably larger) changes the seal, with the red bowl creating a seal by simply placing the wand inside it, and the green bowl requiring a small twist to make the seal complete.
DSC00995.jpg

When used without the silicone ring, the seal is created much further into the bowl, which makes a much more comfortable seal where it doesn't feel like the wand may slip off at any moment, and no special care is needed besides not clinking the glass together roughly. With just myself and people I trust handling glass, this is the setup I've found myself using most frequently.

The screen in the new BM bowls (all 18mm) greatly increases the airflow, and took a little getting used to. While the screen has reduced the vapor density compared to the next slide I'll show, it's also made taking multiple hits easier, and allows more accurate temperature adjustment for scaling up the heat and not getting any scorch taste in the last half of the bowl.

This is the bowl Ive purchased locally, it has a 3cm opening (very similar to the BM bowls, but the final lip opens up and angles outwards while the BM bowls are relatively straight up and down at the top), and I use a glass jack to cover hole on the bottom.
DSC00730.jpg

DSC00997.jpg

This works very well, about equal to the 2.8cm BM bowls without the silicone for creating a seal, ease of use, and comfort in the hand (aka not going to slip off). The only concern is the glass jack which makes stirring problematic (move the jack on accident and the bowl will get clogged and/or pieces of material will come through) and repacking slightly more difficult (people always lose them in the ABV). But this is the bowl I feel the most comfortable letting other people use, since it eliminates some of delicate handling and doesn't require special effort or attention to maintain the seal. There is a decent amount of air restriction in this setup, which ends up vaping the bowl a little unevenly but also gives you thicker hits.

So it's still too early for me to really comment on which bowl I like more, I've gone back on forth more than once already with which style I like. I will be doing some direct comparison videos this weekend where I will be packing the same amount in each and using the same temperature and hit durations etc. so that should be useful to this process. The 2.8cm bowl without the silicone ring, or a roughly 3cm bowl with the silicon are the two favorites, and I think both have their validity and uses.

Lol I tried caplin you. Your gonna have to hit me up tommorow. You need to hit the circ and then I have someone to hit the bong while I take pics. I still need help gettin my bent neck blazemaster dirty.

Durden: slides look on point. I dunno if I'd like how deep the red one let's the wand go in but I'd rock the green one anyday. My new slide is almost a mixture of you're and the silicone free ones which I'm kinda undecided on. I'll still never go back to the vcb

Had the VHW for 4 days...now it won't heat up...I used it once this morning with great success...went back to it about 5 minutes later and the element had cooled but the led was still on.

Tried another wall outlet, same thing, led on, no heat.

**Problem solved less than a day later

^ Sorry to hear about that John; had you tried checking the dial was turned all the way thru?

I just got mine 2 days ago, been getting stoned using it with the BM bowl & a 5/8 32 wire titanium screen.
Just a couple things I want to check with you guys though.

1) I have to drag a lot before pulling out vapor. How much of the BM bowl do you guys usually pack it up to for optimal results? So far I've been doing nearly full bowls, which suprisingly milks 10 times or so (me and 2 other guys were getting super stoned from the same bowl!)

2) I noticed that at the tip of the wand, there's a small thin & loose circular metal plate (diameter of a #2 pencil) that flings back and forth making sounds. Is this normal or did something pop off that shouldn't have?

Pack it to the top of the screen nubs. Or around there. I dunno if you got the bigger design that uses the silicone so the tip could be closer than which would cause it to get hotter. They're all a little bit different and you have to learn what each one likes. I've used 5 different blazemaster bowls and none of them were the same. 3 of them were even the screen dot design

Yeah, I used it this morning, left it in the mug without changing the setting and when I came back to it a few minutes later it was not glowing and had cooled.

I tried plugging it in at other outlets and adjusted the control knob to several different settings...same bullshit...led is on, element does not heat up

I thought I heard a couple light "Chnk chnk" sounds last night that I thought was just ice shifting in bong, but I see nothing different with the VHW, no cracks.

It does have a faint rattle but I don't see anything moving around. This sucks...hoping to hear from Mark soon.

It sounds alot like a bad element. It's a realy easy fix but still sucks that it broke that soon. Mark should reply eventually. They're kinda slow around there....
