I am now noticing that the more I condition the battery the better my ascent acts. I'm now getting amazing vapor production in this thing from 360 on up! It was 385 before. For those that think this thing tastes good at 385, get ur pack down and some sort of spacer and really enjoy it at 360! I love this little fucker more each day!

Yeah, it's pretty common that rechargeable batts will hold onto their voltage longer after a few charges.

Why do I get this strange feeling that I missed a party that was just about to get started?

Oh... sorry your missed this, for you see.. we got this party started, right? We got this party started quickly...

...mainly due to the very quick heat-up time for a portable that the Ascent offers.
:p

Oh... look.. a wild Ascent comment appears!

I can't speak to the battery, but @Dreamerr (and @vtac) has got me seriously looking at lower temps, now that I have the Ascent. I didn't ever think before about lower temps. I am very "seriously" now....

It's quite delicious! I still have my reservations for the battery life but beyond that I think it's a real winner. To those that chose the refund you really should re-buy after DV works the bugs out! Because when their working right, they are pretty damned amazing!

:smug:Well I think this thing works real well, my wife said quote" are you allright your eyes are like pin hole" lol, medicated me real well.
I still need to spend alot more time with it but I think it performs the best like everyone else with a tighter pack and a light steady draw. I like the higher temps but I haven't tried too many ranges yet. I did burn off the unit at different temps and did see the smallest amount of so called mystery gas. But I believe is gone now.
At first could really smell that new electronic smell but I believe its pretty much gone now.
No wires exposed, no broken glass stems, seals are aligned and estectically its beutiful, the only visible flaw is the scuff in the screen but a non issue to me.
My 18mm on my hydra tube worked well and the u adaptor works well with my pinnacle mini wt.
I loved this my wife said that thi g looks real classy. I like this I allways try to look good healthy and dressing well makes me feel well so a nice safisticated looking vaporizer like the Ascent (burl wood) out on the town with the misses and being a legal medical patient and not having to worry about legal issues I lve how it looks and I like the fact my wife like it too.
After all when she is driving and I'm medicating or walking some where together not looking like a pothead.lol
The ascent doesn't perform s well with the oil cans but works well enough no big clouds, nice light, tasty vapor nd it lasts a while. Likei Sid before earlier medicating with the oil jars I knew I was Getting Vapor and releasing it but it wasn't visible, but with a flashlight I was surprised at the actual amount I was actually taking in and it was medicating me despite the eveidence of vapor clouds to my naked eye.
Maybe tomorrow or Friday ill have my burl wood model to compare and see if they operate and function the same in vapor production, heat times, software, programming and physical outer appearance and QC flaws compared to my stealth.

:tup:Good so far but I have a way to go yet lol

Cheers medical mark:zzz:

Hey I medicate alot Nigel, and this new vape is medicating me nicely.
I still need to adjust and figure out my preferred pack but see how a tighter pack produces more vapor, I think keeping it down with a ceramic o ring when not filled to the top helps maintain the heat transfer through the herb producing more constant and dense vapor.
Not much of a learning curve needed slow steady draw witha tight pack that stays inplace I feel works well for me.
Well time for bed, ill be up to medicate again in a few hours, so I don't throw up and can relax enough to make it through the night.
No regrets with the Ascent.

Cheers, medical mark

Based on Medical Marks comment, the OLED screen defect appears to be common and continuing to be 'normal'. It is now the only reason I want an exchange at the moment since in all other aspects mine is functioning great.

@Davinci_vaporizer if you read this, can you please comment on whether this issue is/has/will be resolved with replacement units?? (and yes, I also sent an email to customer service asking the same thing)

Guys... I can't get the ascent to produce decent clouds. They're all so wispy like the minivap on blue or pax on green, but lower. I tried to pack down a bowl with the glass bowl, but all I got was one decent hit. I tried using the glass bowl too with no results. The temp I tried are 185-220 Celsius. At 210 is where I am able to achieve one decent hit and then wispy. I really wanted to like this Vape since I waited so longggg.
I have a couple questions...
How much of a difference would a spacer have? (Cotton vs glass)
What are the technique on using the ascent to achieve maximum vapor?
Is there a video of this?
Anyone else with this problem?

woke up this morning and gave the ascent another shot to make sure it was not user error. I had a full charge on the unit and took 4 hits. They were ok, but when I glanced at my battery indicator I only had 1/2 capacity left. Does that mean that mine is turning into an 8 hit battery life? Also, if you plug the bottom where the glass stem lives and blow through the mouthpiece, you can feel air exiting the main body. Never gonna get a decent hit that way.

I wanted this to work so bad. I really want the vape that was advertised. I do think that they will eventually get their shit together, but not any time soon - the issues are too widespread. Someday, after many glowing reviews and time passed, I will get another. I have decided on getting a refund and trying to find a vape that will work in the meantime. I spoke w/ Aaron @ dv and it was a fairly painless process.

I was trying to run the battery out and even though the indicator was at zero if I turned it off then on right away the indicator went up again. So yeah it seems not to have a strong relationship to the actual charge.

@VapingDitto I get better clouds when i tear off pieces from a dry bud and really pack it tite using the glass oil jar to pack it, add a lil more and pack real tite again, making the bowl like 1/2 to 2/3 full. I set it between 400F-410F. Works even better when i use my glass adapter and bubbler. Also ,open and keep packing in between every cpl of puffs.

I thought they already commented on the screen issue...didnt they say it was part of the manufacturing they put some type of coating on the screen to protect it but it also causes the hazing/scratches...

Great Scott!
Not trying to bash, but this is why I avoid devices like this. First of all being an early adopter of ANYTHING is risky, as I've found out first time in the past more than once. Finally learned that lesson.

Lately it seems like people are more sold by bells and whistles than vapor quality and general safety. After issues with the first da vinci, and these issues now, I feel safe in saying their quality control is very poor. In my experience with portables I'm learning that made IN HOUSE is really starting to be on the top of the list of my necessities. Even if DV spent the time to design a perfect vape, the fact that it is left in others hands to actually produce is worrisome. I don't know what country this vape is manufactured in, but I can take my guesses. I understand that outsourcing saves money, but it also results in disasters like this.

I applaud DaVinci for trying to add so many features and designing a good vape, but the quality is simply NOT there, which in the end is the most important thing. It's like pimping out the audio system on a car with no engine, the fundamentals are more important IMO.

Again sorry if this seems like bashing, but this applies to many vapes, not just Da Vinci, but this is a glowing example of what I am talking about when you have outside manufacturing. It can happen to anyone, hell even Vapexhale had to move their whole system in house, again due to someone else being involved and screwing things up badly. The product is only as good as the weakest link, in this case the manufacturing, which I'm GUESSING was substantially cheaper than being made in say the USA or Canada. As a result you get things like offgassing and plastic hairs burning. I imagine most people would be fine paying a higher price if it means a vape that is actually safe and well made.

I am not interested in this personally, but I wish DV the best of luck and really suggest that they move their manufacturing in house if they are serious about quality control.

As some one who has a fully functional unit would you say it is your favorite portable? Favorite vape?

China, but there are many things that are made in China that are excellent. Things that are not manufactured in-house can still be great product but it takes additional QC efforts to make that happen.

What's kind of an interesting question though is, does the savings of manufacturing off-shore still make sense when you factor in the additional QC efforts that need to take place to make the product viable?

forgive me for being dumb..... how do you condition a battery??
By charging it full and running it dead (or very close to dead) a few times tight off the bat. It seems to be working well. Between that, a tight pack, and my glass bead I'm getting amazing amounts of vapor starting at the 365 range and up now! Satisfied customer here. I'm telling you guys, when you have one that works correctly it is everything it was hyped to be!
@Lazarus yes this is hands down my favorite portable to date, and I've owned MOST of the top dogs in the battery portable category.

I agree there are many great things coming from china. I tend to not inhale through most of them though. But yes if they stepped up QC signficantly they could avoid this, but like you said what costs more, building the items in house, or paying someone in house to open and inspect every item and look for things like melted plastic and funky mystery vapors?

Then factor in things like the ton of these things that are not usable, thats a lot of wasted money as well. Add to that all the people (myself included) who would be totally put off by MAJOR unacceptable issues like this, and you've got some serious lost sales. I saw these issues on another vapor related chat I am in, and came here to read up and was disgusted.

On the other hand when you make a product in house, word gets out how good it is (assuming its a good product in the first place) and people take that "made in house" as a badge of KNOWN good quality.

I am not an expert in these things, but I was under the impression that this is actually REALLY not a good idea for most modern batteries, and was something done on older technology only. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea is to never let current generation batteries fully discharge.

In the long term that's true that running them low will shorten their capacity. But if the battery gauge or electronics need to know the full voltage scale of the battery then I can see it being of benefit.

with the glass bead added, are you getting any more efficiency from the unit? Mine produced good vapor with a tight pack, but it was taking me at least twice as much to get me where I needed to be.

I thought they already commented on the screen issue...didnt they say it was part of the manufacturing they put some type of coating on the screen to protect it but it also causes the hazing/scratches...

I believe there were 2 theories. One was they were scratched in transit, but not likely, b/c DV said they encountered this problem and deliberately put a film or screen on to help protect the OLED discovered during pre-production. The other theory was that the film which is on the INSIDE of the unit is peeling off due to either the supplier or the QC in the factory overseas.

What's kind of an interesting question though is, does the savings of manufacturing off-shore still make sense when you factor in the additional QC efforts that need to take place to make the product viable?

I guess only DVs number's person can answer that after the dust settles. I do think (like many others) there would have been a smoother ride and less lost money between DV and us FCers. Return/Exchangers are paying a $10-15 premium (but did get goodies). I feel the best goodies were the extra stems and coming in second were the adapters.
