***Gamers*** What are you playing?

It's am amazon exclusive pre-order for the Sunday Ticket.

There are a million and one restrictions for it as well. But you can just sell Madden back if you don't like it and keep the sunday ticket.

I guess I just got tired of having to get my team's games via fanbroadcasting.

I've been playing a lot of older games lately, got burned out on the dumbed down shooters and RPG-lites that plague consoles these days. I swear to zeus it seems like every game now has God of War style combat in it.

I tried playing Lost and the Damned GTA4 but I just can't get into it. GTA:SA is my fav GTA so 5 is most definitely on the radar.

Played a bit of Jaws:Unleased last night, highly under-appreciated game. It's far from perfect, and very old. But it has a widescreen option which makes it much more acceptable on HDTVs.

You play as a shark and fight everything from dolphins to oil rigs.

Anybody out there playing Civilization? I had put a good number of hours into Civ 4 but hadn't tried Civ 5 yet until I finally got it on sale recently. I'm finding myself enjoying it even more than Civ 4 to my surprise! The initial reviews seemed mixed but the first expansion was apparently widely praised along with the second expansion, which I unfortunately don't own yet.

These games tend to suck up your time!

Yeah i played Civ5 back when it came out. It was actually the first Civ game that i really got into. I kinda got burnt out on strategy games in general back in the 90's, what with all the Command & Conquer and Age of Empires i played. But Civ5 sucked me in for a bit, had a couple all-night game sessions. You keep saying "Ok, just one more turn..." and before you know it the birds are chirping.

I've still playing a good amount of Payday 2. Tomorrow night me and my friend are going to start a co-op Dead Space 3 campaign, since we both got it for so cheap in the humble bundle deal. should be good fun! I've been a big fan of the DS series since the first game came out, I've been waiting to play this one until i could do so on co-op.

For all Half-Life 2 fans, if you haven't already seen the amazing fan-movie Escape From City 17, you should do so now! Part 2 just came out recently (finally!). Here you go:

I normally just go with the flow on Madden. I gave up complaining about blocking AI (25 years and it's still broken, as in completely broken) but this year really takes the cake.

$100 fucking dollars (ok mostly for the Sunday Ticket) but the Madden 25 Anniv edition literally is nothing but a minor update to Madden 13 + some bullshit ultimate team nonsense + some garbage amazon DLC filler.

The major tweaks to this year? They ruined passing LOL. Passes have no proper trajectory now. They did this to nerf Online Hail Mary cheesers. But the result is everyone is throwing a ton of INTs, it's completely unrealistic. Wide open WRs who beat the CB by 2-3 feet wait for a pass, from QBs with 90+ Throw Power, and it's a line drive or underthrown every time.

I figured I had the controls wrong or something this year, then I checked Operation Sports and it's confirmed.

The Madden devs are long known for sacrificing realism for the sake of multiplayer balance. And that's what we have now.

Scores look realistic - 25-17 and such... but how you get to that score is highly unrealistic. What happens is long short passing drives, with completion rates of 85% etc... and if you keep it conservative, you get a TD. If you attempt a long pass, it's like flipping a 3 sided coin, INT, Breakup, or amazing challenged catch reception.

Unlike the more realistic, pass hitting the dirt, sailing out of bounds, or a simple catch. These things do not seem to exist. I haven't seen a single pass just hit the dirt. Every single pass is touched by someone, usually the CPU.

The CPU awareness still 'cheats'. It will know exactly where your pass is going the moment you press the button. Unfortunately this means mediocre MLBs getting INTs constantly, or just batting down passes like they are all pro Free Safeties.

The running game is pointless, except for the CPU which magically gets suction cup Oline blocking when the CPU runs the ball. But when I run the ball, I have to break 3 tackles in the backfield just to get 1 yard (behind a 85+ rated Oline rofl) I avgd. 5 yards per carry , but I only ran it 4 times and 1 was a QB scramble. Even with the seemingly good 5 yards per carry, again that was only because of final stats being balanced. Each particular run was unrealistic nonsense. I had Brandon Bolden acting like Barry Sanders just to sneak in an 8 yard run. Hell most of the juking was just to get to the line of scrimmage. Once you actually pass the LoS running is easy. It's compensating for all the missed blocks. Kotaku review post has some basic videos showing how broken blocking is, especially for TEs and WRs.

The Screen pass cheese is back again. CPU or multiplayer, defending it is redonk and the best way to defend it is to exploit the broken AI and chase from behind.

Closing speed is another issue, again this year the CPU magically can sprint faster than your fastest player even if the CPU is 10pts slower.

So yeah, at the end of the game, the stats look realistic. But when you play the game, each drive is full of highly unrealistic nonsense. The most effective passes are still the slants and crossing routes against main to man. Zone D still requires you cheese the CPU and pass where you know he can't catch it, even tho the CPU is reacting faster and earlier than your CPU controlled target.

The score will look satisfying, but when you think back to how many offensive plays are actually run in an NFL game, you realize you ran about 40% and ended up with the same score.
Which means of course, if you punt 1 or 2 times, you will likely lose big. Which is completely unrealistic nonsense. I kicked 1 FG and as soon as I kicked it, I knew I would lose the game because ... it's madden and kicking a FG is a complete waste of time.

This might as well be arena football.

It seems they have 'fixed' Dline sacks now, you no longer have to cheese and exploit with off play stunts or wide lineups. You can just get a real sack, the CPU doesn't magically throw the ball away right before the sack every single time like last year.

The first patch also slows down the menus and gameplay. Everything loads slower with the patch (PS3) and people are going apeshit about it. A few times I thought my PS3 froze but it was just 10 seconds of loading to go from 1 menu screen to the next. LOL. I have a SSD HDD too

Dungeon Crawler ARPGs are one of my fav genres. Everything on the PS3 ranges from laughably bad to somewhat ok.

Are you talking JRPG style, or WRPG style?

JRPG style,
3D Dot Heroes is very Zelda like

Dragon's Dogma - one of my favs, but very much an oddball RPG. Tons of great combat, and a horrible story.

WRPG
Lord of the Rings: War in the North - from the guys who did Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance. It's decent, but LOTR license makes it way more limited than the BGDA games.

Kingdoms of Amalur - dungeons are sadly the worst part
Dungeon Siege III - just straight boring
Sacred 2 - bizarre german ARPG - probably the most counter intuitive leveling system ever designed in a game. Can be very addictive or laughably silly depending on your tastes

--------------------------

w/r to Madden, they could always patch it and make it better...... but they usually patch it and make it worse, as 99% of the patches are for Ultimate Team Mode or Online Franchise or Multiplayer exploits.

Yeah I would be really upset that I bought Madden 25 if it wasn't for the Sunday Ticket deal. Hexi covered it perfectly...the game is flawed and cheap. I don't completely blame Tiburon because of the quick turnaround that is required but it's seriously bad this year.

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
Did you get Dark Arisen? I put way too much time into Dogma, way too much...

No, I haven't tried that one. I am mainly a PC gamer but play a few PS3 titles. I'll look it up.

Edit: Ah, it was an expansion. Nah, I never even knew about it. I'm kind of weird in that once I finish a game I'm ready for a new one. So I don't play a lot of expansions. I don't even finish as many games because boredom and repetition set in.

the original should be like $5 on consoles. The Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is the original + improvements + all DLC + expansion/ skill cap increase.

Dark Arisen content is epic high level and totally changes the game. It can also get a bit grindy/farmy for obtaining all the gear. I played it for a good 2 weeks of farming after beating the story. It's fun because it can be stupid hard at first, but once you figure out how to kill stuff + get the expansion high end gear you become godlike.

Well back to madden, they did improve offline franchise mode this year. And the menus are a lot more intuitive. But they still load super slow, just going from Depth Chart to a save, then to get a franchise mode game going takes a long time.

IMO they really should do online madden as a stand alone F2P product. The balance of online MP is totally different than "sim" single player mode. In MP obviously everything has to be about preventing cheese. (like the old fullback runs for 2 yards untackled that had to be patched a few years ago, or putting TEs in the WR slot to get epic blocks)

Offline, this restricts too much. For example, you can't even change a ROLB to a MLB once a franchise starts. That's nonsense, but was done to stop online abuse.

In the real NFL, there is no such thing as ROLB or LOLB, those are terms from like 1998 NFL.

At least they fixed the roster restrictions. Like a few years ago you had to have 2 LTs 2 LGs etc... No you no longer must have 2 Centers and 2 RGs etc.. you can actually do a more realistic 7-8 man offensive line, mix and max any position.

Hooray, it only took 7 games this generation to get the false roster limit removed.

Diablo 3 is the ultimate dungeon crawler. It just wasn't released when he asked.

Waiting on the price drop for Diablo 3 - PS3. Without the expansion pack, I just can't force myself to pay $60 for the vanilla with barely any extras.

Recently been playing some FTB Minecraft. There's too much to do when mod packs have over 100 mods!
Got a server up so I think that's what really got me back into it.

Other than that, been finishing up my recent play through of New Vegas.

Yeah, I played it for quite a while on PC when it came out, so I have no need of the PS3 version.
