Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

The issue is the "air path", it is truly GonG but that doesnt mean anything other than 2 pieces of glass sliding into each other.

The Ascent is as much an "all glass air path" as the solo is. I mean the air is coming from the bottom thru a grill which isnt glass, and now I realize it mingles inside the upper path (plastic, silicone etc) too, as if you notice the 2 straws (glass screen and mouth piece) have no proper GonG connection, and are therefore sucking up inside air.

Where does this air come from inside? I can confirm the top silicone seal if you pull the tool out raises up a bit, as if its not attached in anyway there is definitely an air gap there very similar to the solo. However PV sent me some silicone O rings for the solo that solve that air gap.

I agree with your statement - however as far as I know the Solo marketing campaign wasn't trumpeting itself as the world's first true GonG portable

I just tried inhaling through the draw tube with my thumb over the screen holes/silicon opening, and I had almost no airflow at all. It was close to perfect suction, so I believe that there is either some variance between units as far as the opening between the drawtube and the silicone rubber seal material, or wires got accidentally shoved in during assembly to create an opening on some of the units as has already been speculated. Hopefully davinci steps up to the plate for all of those affected.

Mouthpiece in or out? Glad to hear it could be yet another QC issue and not an across-the-board problem.

Looks like I got summoned... sorry I have not been around much.

Can you comment on the temps, you have tested? I know your preference is "hot" (<400 F) but also would like to know about the range you played with, when you were working on your review.

@Dreamerr You are welcome.

I tend to pack my ascent very tight. I will fill it full and pack it down and do that one or two more times.... but I really can't emphasize TIGHT packing. Like a very compressed puck of material on the bottom

I packed the heck out of some spent material the other day. I got clouds from that. I understand.

That is GREAT to hear! I was nervous that it may be a design flaw, i'd rather get a replacement versus refund then repurchase. If there are enough with suction, then it must have been a manufacturing flaw.

I now know that @thesoloman's stealth and my stealth were made nearly the same time based on serial numbers. If DV has 10-12 workers, there may even be a chance the same hands manufactured ours back to back. Based on posts of order numbers last week i barely made the cutoff for the first batch. I'd really prefer that these problems were due to simple worker fatigue, which I could only imagine the number of consecutive hours they did just to try and make us happy. I appreciate your efforts DV, thanks for working hard for us. . .

. . . but my smokey bottom, holey tube Ascent needs replaced, Skulduggery

Regarding the bottom part of the Ascent getting too hot to hold it: this is pretty bad as well (not just in terms of user friendliness), it also indicates poor insulation of the bowl. Which explains why some people here are experiencing a low battery life or at least lower than advertised. As it stands it just looks like false advertising.

I wonder why Davinci doesn't just tell us which battery type is used. Eventually someone is going to take the Ascent apart anyway and find out, so why not let us know from the start.

I think the grill heating up is a factory defect. I recall in a video that a guy felt comfortable enough yo put his mouth on it and shotgun his.

I'm starting to wonder if it is just bad QC at the factory due to rushing to get them out the door. It just seems very odd to me that the beta and review units that went out were fine but what people are getting aren't even close. It also seems to mostly be the stealth unit with the issues which maybe that was the most ordered unit so it has the most issues? I'm waiting patiently to see how all this pans out, the unit still seems to have such great potential.

Hard to say without an official response from DV. I've purchased a few vapes that looked great in a testers hands, and then fell flat once I gave it a go. So many factors at times...this is why I am holding onto my cash for a portable that pumps vapour straight out of the box consistently.

Davinci has opened the second pre-registration and with the long list of bugs and misconceptions which is quoted below (added a few in orange text) I find it very disconcerting that they are already selling the second wave of units.

With all the issues that have popped up over the last few days, some of them surely haven't been addressed for the second wave (this should take a few weeks to get to the QC / factory in China) and that means there will probably be just even more returns/refunds for Davinci to handle.

Seems to me like the concerns here aren't really taken seriously and since these forums are the only big neutral proving ground that comes to mind at this time, this is quite worrying. And the Ascent design looked so good on paper :|
[On a side note: what's the point of giving out Ascents to certain people from the adult entertainment industry instead of FC forum members. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out Davinci's instagram/twitter etc.]

Some people are probably wondering why people like me are still posting in this thread at all. Well, I still believe the design, handling and looks to be superior to most vaporizers out there and I really wish that this unit succeeds eventually. I really want this thing to work and have one to carry around and be able to convince other people of how good vaporizers can be.

Quick rundown, and not everyone is experiencing these issues:

- a variety of cosmetic flaws regarding the display
- other cosmetic issues with panel fitting, extra glue, upside-down logos, reversed buttons, etc.
- seems noticeably less efficient than other vapes
- mystery vapor coming from the bottom (probably the most distressing issue, but not everyone is experiencing that)
- inaccurate thermostat/overheating
- loose mouthpieces
- many find the metal screen necessary to keep herb out of one's mouth--but the metal screen doesn't fit securely
- herb must be re-tamped often (and you'll need a tool to do so--many have sacrificed a pinky)
- rarer, but a few have poorly-aligned bowls, putting extra rubber in the air path
- takes a loooong time to fully charge

- battery capacity way lower than advertised
- indicator for the battery charge level seems to be incorrect
- wires in the vapor air path

Many of these flaws will get ironed out with future updates, I'm sure. But I'm starting to wonder if there's a fundamental flaw with the design--it's hungry for herb, and prone to leakage. And there's no way to stop the cooking between hits.

Those with good units seem to be enjoying theirs, however. Would love to know if they're enjoying decent efficiency as well.

B.T.W...... my burl wood is off gassing and i called the rep and arranged a RMA. i will try another unit. still have to make arrangements to send mine back so it will be awhile though :(

To the reason why beta testers get such great units is because the factory heads made those betas nice and crispy. After they get that right and get 100x that amount for an order, they go crazy. They go buy gold chains, nice cars, new condo. They cheap out and don't tell the designer they sourced cheaper crappier parts. Plus to save more money, they hire cheaper inexperienced labor and get rid of the slightly higher waged experienced workers. This last paragraph is a generalization of economics.

Totally disagree with the above.

The pre-production units were just that...........pre-production. There was not a rush to get 100's of units made by a certain time deadline, so the workers were able to take their time and do it right. Once a unit goes out of pre-production into regular production, time constraints become an issue and QC then "should" become an integral part of the manufacturing process to correct those issues that ALWAYS comes up when ANY product goes from pre-production to production.

Whoever is in charge of QC, both in China and here stateside should either be fired, or strung up and :whip:by DV and if it's the latter, I want vids or it didn't happen. :\

I'm now starting to think I should cut my losses and return this unit. I had such high hopes but I can't be eating through herb like this all the time. I guess I'll wait for a efficient and stealthy portable to come out (unless there already is one that I don't know about... time to research I guess)

I'm hoping the zenpen works out! If it works like they've said it'd be that near perfect super efficient portable that we've been wanting.

First post on this website. Want to thank everyone for their insight and experience. Been following this thread and finally got my Ascent and tried it out last night. I filled the bowl about half-full, ground very well, but not packed. I started at 375 and got small clouds. Eventually moved up to 410 and got more consistent small clouds. Great flavor all along and it did the job. After 6-7 hits I opened the bowl and it way greenish light brown and very evenly colored.

My question is, should I be sipping the vapor slowly for 10-20 seconds then let it have a couple seconds to regain temp?

Just because I am not getting big clouds doesn't mean that the I'm not getting vapor correct? Obviously not much of it had been wasted or used because of the color afterwards.

Im just making sure I am doing this the smart way and mine is not a turd.

Thanks for any help!

any vape that uses conduction benefits from letting it sit between pulls to allow it to re gain heat that is lost from previous pulls. there is a balance there, because if it is hot and sitting your herbs will be vaping until non existing :)

I've had my Ascent for about five days and only used it once. I too noticed significant off gassing coming from me unit. Even after thorough cleaning with ISO and a couple burn offs. IMO, the cosmetic issues can be easily solved and often happen with a new release. On the other hand, off gassing from the silicone seals and or wiring is a very serious matter. I for one am not using my Ascent until Davinci gives us a full report on this mystery off gasing issue which may or not be toxic. Material safety data sheets on materials used would be a good start. I don't care if DV owns the factory or not, when these vapes are made in China you certainly wonder about materials used, workmanship and quality control.

Most of us use vaporizers as a risk reduction device. However, right now I feel much safer smoking blunts than using my Ascent lol. That's not the way it should be. My two cents....

My brother just called...he had to ring three times before somebody picked up. He asked for a refund and they said someone else would call him back later today to handle it...

[Edit: he got a call back from the original guy, saying to send it back with a tracking number and they'd handle the refund when they got it. No RMA needed.]
