It's 13.5 cm long and 3 cm in diameter - add to that the aprox 1" for the GonG if using it on a Solo - it's about 2" longer than the body of the solo

I never understood all this o-ring craze... All it does is restricting the airflow even more by blocking the only air path the Solo has and forcing the air to enter through the mica insulator and it's tiny gaps (if any)... I never saw anyone complaining about a loose stem on a log vape... :2c:

I can't buy the "all it does" part since most of us install it for other reasons. How many guys can you point to that installed it to restrict the airflow (since that's all it does)? I gave out free rings to over two dozen Forum Members (you know who you are.....), I don't recall a single one interested in restricting the draw, most wanted to do exactly what I was after when I started looking for 'the right ring' for the job, to tighten up the loose stem problem.

I found the restriction problem as a result of that search. And reported it here. I solved it by cutting notches in the lower surface of the ring (and have posted about it a few times). It's easy enough to do, I typically sent four rings to folks so they would have some to experiment with should they care to.

While we're on the subject, where is this "mica insulator and it's tiny gaps (if any)"? Furnace cement and metal I know about, and plastics. Where is the mica? I looked pretty carefully......

I will agree that I don't know anyone who complained about their log vape stem being loose but log vape stems aren't glass (they don't break from a fall to the floor) nor are they bent and 'swing away from your open mouth on their own' when you try to hit them (my personal gripe). Let me counter with "while stem vape owners seem fine with loose stems, LOTS of Solo owners aren't"?

So I disagree with the goal of those of us who put the rings in (and could just as easily remove them), that's just a difference in opinion perhaps, but I'd like to know what this mica concern in Solo is all about.....please? TIA

I haven't heard anything great about the F - Bomb, I'm looking forward to a solid review.

I have been given a 102 and the stem is still loose even with the o-ring. I can pull it out with no resistance what so ever so it is not blocking any airflow. It won't fall out if I turn it over but if I shake it upside down I am sure it will. BTW I don't know what all the hoopla was with the ceramic chamber but I love the 102. The top does get hotter but so far I am still using it on level three. I will try out 2 when I stop testing the PA's but for now I have to keep all variables the same.

I was loaned one to try before I got mine. It sold me. I suspect the problem was concerns when it chipped. It's not only cheaper not to replace the units with free ones (remember, original owners got replacements without having to return the chipped one) but it's probably cheaper to make out of SS than having to enamel the original design to improve on 'the all glass path' claims?

The temperature range thing brings up an interesting idea I've been thinking of (at least I think it's interesting). It should be pretty easy to design a drop in part to change the effective calibration of the steps. That is for guys that like it cold, shift it down a few steps so step 4 or 5 is where 2 was? Or for the "big cloud, killer water tool" guys bump it up on the top end so you can go wild? It could be cheap (under 20 bucks?) and go in and out in a few minutes........ Blow the warranty of course.

Fun (and useful) little gadget for sure.

Hey Guys,
I was wondering which planet cape pvhes I should get for my solo. It's my first aftermarket stem and just want to buy one. I can't seem to figure out the differences. Thanks for the help!!

I recently commented about the Oring Store Silicone 113 S70 Oring and my order of 20 arrived 2 days ago now. I installed one onto my solo no problem and am able to tighten the lid all the way down. I ordered the o-rings to fix the loose stem issue that was caused by Ed's TnT stem. However, I found that the air resistance it added didn't bother me and allows for thicker pull and i'm starting to like it actually. Another use was to create an airtight seal for a bubbler I've had for awhile with the 18mm GonG. it works great and is a nice laid back piece .

From what I can tell there are chips but it has zero effect on performance. I will certainly let you know when I go down to two if I get the same results as three on my newer model. I am almost a strictly 375 vapor person so it is easy for me to tell when it is two hot. I settled in to temps on all my vapes without a digital readout and later find out that I am right at what they claim is 375 which I find interesting.

Cool, Lady, thanks. Be sure to let us know what you find?

Don't I recall that it was shifted two steps? There was also a shift in 'battery meter' calibration as well along about then, wasn't there?

Oh it is definitely not two steps higher for sure unless the battery is just old and it is not getting as hot. I couldn't vape on three if it was a huge difference. It feels like about 380 to me.

Cool. More useful data, thanks.

FYI battery state doesn't effect temperature (within limits). Weaker batteries just stay on a longer fraction of the time to get enough heat in to raise it to the magic temperature. As long as the heat LED cycles off, even if only briefly, it's in temperature regulation properly.

Here's a few pics in the meantime :)

After being really disappointed with how the Ascent release is turning out to be a slow-motion train-wreck, I'm thinking about getting a Solo instead.

Which is the best place (shop, ebay, ..?) to get a Solo over in Europe? It's somewhere between 184-200 Euros on Amazon which is beyond ridiculous (200 euros = $270).
If there's no go-to store in Europe then which international store do you recommend?
I don't necessarily need the guarantee (especially not for the batteries, those I plan on replacing myself if the time comes).

Hey Marvil,

I want to be brief because you have less than one hour left on MassDrop offer for the Solo ($119 plus shipping I believe). Here's the link. Good luck.

Oh, come on mate... Don't get excited. :) You don't need to buy anything and I didn't say anything about "goals". It was just my personal opinion cause I see too much content about the o-rings and whenever I tried them in the past the resistance was simply TOO MUCH. I haven't seen those notches you have cut but if you point them out to me I will try and give it another go if I order something from PV again and get some more.

About the Mica... It's the whole plasticky thing around our Solo heaters. The insulation that keeps the rest of the Solo relatively cool and keeps the electronics from being fried down below? That's our Mica, and since the fit between those two pieces is not perfect (the part where the top 4 screws keep them together), some of the air is forced through those little gaps instead from the sides of the stem (which is partly blocked by the o-ring). I am sure that's not bad per se but maybe the air is heated better if it follows the designed air path ... :2c:

Oh, and about the log's stems, well, afaik most are glass, yes, and they break if they fall on hard surface and if a swirling bent stem is not practical why not use the straight? Anyway, you nor I can be sure about the actual numbers of people having problems with loose Solo stems so there is no point in discussing this. I just had the thought cause the design between the Solo and most logs is fairly similar.

Cheers!

I got mine from ebay for £150. Planetvape does ship internationally though, if I needed a second Solo PV would be first port of call. I really want the F-bomb but it just looks exactly the same as the PN WT, hoping someone can compare the two real soon :)

On the subject of the O-rings I have one on my M102 and it works a treat for keeping the stems/GonG's in place :) But I need to re-seat the ring say once every couple of sessions as it squashes down so much it no longer holds the stems tightly. Once I re-seat the ring im back in action...anyone else have this?

I ended up purchasing one of these solos. To improve the capabilities of the solo I was thinking of buying one of these PVHE stems. If I buy a PVHES do I need to buy one of those GonG things as well or is that only for things like the F bomb and bubblers?

Also, will I need one of these O-rings if I just use one of these PVHE stems?

Just had a quick look on Amazon - they're available on there from £142 now, which I think is a really competitive price for a Solo. Ebay also has lots of listings for around the £150 mark, some of which include free gifts.

Vaposhop, one of FC's sponsors, offer a FC discount which brings their price down to around £150.
The discount link can be found here: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vaposhop-europes-1-vaporizer-store.4187/

For most people, an important consideration before buying is whether or not they are purchasing from an authorised distributor. If not, in the unlikely event of something going wrong with the unit, it may possibly prove more difficult/timely to get things sorted. However, you mention that you're not too bothered about a guarantee, so I guess this applies less to you :)

I have more of an issue with the 102 then the newer model. In the 102 I am getting the bigger washer so it will hold the stem better. I had one but since the orings worked I gave it away to someone because I tried an oring on theirs and it did absolutely nothing. I think there is a slight variation in solos even within the same serial numbers. Just to be clear with the oring I can't get the stem tight in the 102. The oring holds it just enough that it won't fall out but if I shake the solo I am sure it will go flying as it takes zero effort to get the stem out when I am done.

for ~ 130 I'm about to pull the trigger on a solo. I just spent $100 on Madden 25 (sunday ticket bribery) so seriously why not?

After browsing through a bunch of this thread, can someone help me out with some specifics
http://www.planetvape.ca/f-bomb-jet-diffused-micro-bubbler-tube.html
  • An y GonG joint works for the Solo or only custom ones like Pvapes? 14mm?
  • USA location? (PVapes is Canada?)
