Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Hey vapefriends, just wanted to share a tip about using the screen. Last I checked it was a bit of a mystery as to where they're supposed to go, and when I got mine today I discovered it isn't even mentioned in the instruction manual, ha. And when I got bits of herb flying into my mouth halfway through my first session I knew I had to do something.

Anyway, you can fit them directly in front of the 4-hole glass screen part. The small circular size perfectly fits into the rubber casing around the glass tube, covering all 4 holes, and allowing the bottom case to be closed while upright, creating no problems when loading/unloading and making your mouth happier while vaping with this excellent little piece of machinery. Apologies if this is already known (I didn't see it anywhere though). If anyone wants to chime in as to why this might be a bad idea for the device (damage or something), that's welcomed.

Also, just cause it's funny, here's a pic of the back of my Ascent:

The Ascent logo is upside down! That's $250 for ya! I considered sending it back, but was waiting so damn long for it to arrive that I had to fire it up. Works totally fine. Anyone know if it can be safely pried off and just re-glued on the right way? I'm wary of trying to rip it off and damaging something important.

+1 on wondering if there is rubber in the airway? From some of the pics it's looking like vapor will contact rubber for sure IMO.

I'm really thinking about switching my order to the inh. Was hoping the delays would iron out some of the first version bugs
Buy a Solo and be happy... I just said goodbye to my Ascent after 24hours, not the vape for me..

Lol @ above... upside down logo xD

It's so you can read it while you use it, obviously. ;):D:nod:

Really wanted to get a solo but I need something more stealthy unfortunately. It seemed like the ascent would be the answer to both flavor and stealth. Think I'm going to get an inh and sacrifice a bit of taste. wait out for the ascent to be that vape

OKAY EDITING THIS POST.
It seems there is a problem with a film or a coating to PREVENT scratches that is either delaminating or just separating.

I think this is what most people are seeing.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that your screen can't also or either be physically scratched. Two different problems, that aren't related.

But I think most of this is the former, not the latter issue. My apologies for focusing on only one issue.

[EDIT: Which is NOT to say either isn't an issue... I just want to make sure we are identifying the problem correctly. ]

---------------------------

HAHAHAHAHA! Be sure to add @tre-ert 's upside down logo to the list. That cracks me up.

As far as the displays go- they are all like that, its not a blunder or an accidental blemish. They place a coating on them during assembly to prevent scratching....because the original samples we had were scratched to hell. Now it seems that the coating is off due to the film.

The factory does full QC testing (obviously not enough....or maybe too much?) that includes a full inspection, multiple heating and discharging cycles and even a vibration test. I am betting the vibration test caused the croc to come out and maybe the crack. We do a quick once over, turn on and make sure it generally works here. Will beef that process up asap.
@Davinci_vaporizer
Mine doesn't look scratched DV. It looks like the film wasn't peeled off and is now starting to peel. Also I had not 1 or 2 or even 3 but 4 corners on the matte black center skin that were pulling away from the body that I had to glue back down.

man this thing going is awesome. I'm getting killer vapor out if mine and the herb looks to be vaping very evenly with no darker spots anywhere. heats up faster than I thought too.

I got the little bit of excess glue off just with my fingernail so it's all good now. Loving the Ascent!

Not sure what everyone else's looks like. But mine is definitely scratched. There is a "starting line" at the top and the scratches go down until they fade the light reflecting off them clearly shows a pack of lines going down the screen. Does anyone else's screen wiggle? Just wondering.

The following is Pappys pic. Look at upper part of the lower half and it is plainly visible that it is separating.

In addition to the separation in the photo, the Ascent Logo is definitely not centered. Looks like it is turned counter-clockwise a little. That is the another logo not done correctly. QC in China obviously involves vaping with them too. lol

Mine does wiggle a little, but it's nothing that concerns me. I'm not saying people don't have a right to be angry, some of you obviously do. However, I think some are being a bit too harsh. It's almost like people were waiting for some type of failure. I can understand being a bit upset, but it still seems like a good vape so far. Then again, my skin isn't coming off. :D.

I see.. yes go with what you must.
My Ascent build was nice! But i have the line on my screen too(same with 2 of my other buddies who lurk these forums)
I loved the feel of the device, super sturdy..
Flavor was bomb! but had a hint of silicone...
Very labor intensive/not user friendly vape... you can sit there and get nice vapor but your trying for it hah.
Controlled breathing patterns, perfect grind/pack ratio. Way to wispy of hits for vaporbonging. Felt like hitting a digital mflb that would never combust, nice flavor but the clouds were not there.

I was expecting a Solo 2.0 from DaVinci... A sleeker unit, gong airway, longer battery, with clouds! But they did not produce what i was looking for.... Saved money is now thinking bout' that herbalizer after the meet, greet, n trial here in So Cal.

In terms of function, yes it works. In terms of aesthetics, not so much. If you're okay with spending $250 on a product that delivers on performance but not on aesthetics, that's fine. You're more than allowed to do that. But, ya know, people spend $300 plus on Mobius glass and send it back because of bubbles in the glass/defects in the percs (I recall one person had a Matrix perc that looked like they missed a line when constructing the perc, so one of the perc lines on that part was like twice the size of the rest). QC failed them, so they took it to ALT and got a new one. The perc thing was obviously a function issue, but the bubbles aren't, yet they still got new pieces.

I'm just saying it's somewhat disappointing to have this product delayed so many months (shit happens, though), have it QC'd TWICE, and still have a good part of the shipped units have noticeable problems. How they don't catch upside-down logos is beyond me.

I'll keep watching this thread, but I'll pass on this unit.

@Snappo I changed my statement when I realized that just because there is one problem doesn't exclude another. My apologies.

But one problem or two separate different ones, you are correct.

-------

@notorio Thank you for the picture.

...is that what the screens are for? So much for all-glass

We've known since well back in the original thread (no, not the nonsense one, the ORIGINAL thread) that the OPTIONAL screens were included for those that wanted them and didn't mind metal.

They are nothing new, and certainly not necessary.

I use mine all the time and have never even taken the metal screens out of the box.

The vapor is wispier than I had expected. Wayyyy better flavor than the original DV but the cloud production of the original crushes the ascent! Anyone else notice if you draw a little to hard with a small load it gets sucked up against the screen and then stops producing any kind of visible vapor all together. I hate to get on the downer bandwagon but I just expected more from this unit I guess.like was stated earlier it is capable of great clouds but you will work for them!!! Also yes the silicone is definitely in the air path! The only way I can think of to stop it is push the glass screen down tight from the top after the unit is packed and closed, but how would you get it back up?? I if you were to force it open it would snap the screen off!!!

Yeah, I agree with that for sure. I didn't have any other portable and I had cash to spend so it's not so bad. Plus my unit doesn't have most of the problems others are talking about, it worked well for me. It's not for cloud chasers that's for sure, that's what my Plenty is for. :smug: and no offense dude, but we all know Ifrit pwns all day :whip:

Wtf, these all look like they were rushed out the door. Which makes me want to see proof that the whole customs delay was not a ruse to cover the self-appointed deadline that they so clearly didn't meet. Did we ever get independent confirmation of the customs delay, or was that all from davinci?

I got mine today,,its still charging so havent tested it yet... got the croc one and it also looks exactly like pappys with the lower part of the croc skin coming off...and the screwed up scratches.but i dont think ill care about how it looks if it performs well..to be cont..:brow:

I haven't and I tend to favor a smaller load, but have tried different sizes. Are you tamping it down? (I'm gonna guess "yes") Hmmm... have you tried the cotton idea? I haven't yet. The again there is the solution of, when drawing "a little TOO hard" of: Don't.

Is it really that hyper-observant, to notice that an "all glass" vapor path includes a rubber seal, several mm of which appears to be exposed to the vapor?

Are you speaking of the manufacturing defect that seems to leave a lip exposed? That is certainly an issue. It is also a defect.

Or are you speaking of the fact that silicone is being used in the device for both seals and protecting the glass? That I'd hardly call observant, as that has been known about for about 7 months now, and hardly any fashion of revelation.

Wow another with croc falling off. Glad i sold this disaster.

And yeah the two stems mating in the device was defective. Very noticeable air leak from the (silicone) sides, not cool.

I think he's asking if, even when the bottom bowl seal is properly placed, is it still in the vapor path?

Anyone with a properly-placed bowl seal, can you chime in? And can you guys fill us in on what the metal screens are for? I thought the glass screen was supposed to be the only screen on it to preserve the all-glass pathway?
