not even 1/4 the way
I think it's the oil that caused it. How purged is it? Is there a lot of water content in it still? Maybe that was it? The water boiling and moving the oil around? What temp were you on?

its as purged as i can get it??? it's been sitting out for over a week and a half. i have used it in other tools just fine. i am new to making it so i really don't know. the temp was set to 430 but it was somewhere in the 390's when i first heard the "pop" and decided to shut it down

Alright... hmm, let's see... You said it's hard as molasses when hard so it might not be the purge after all (as excess water would probably cause it to be runny.) We're talking ISO oil right? Have you tried starting at a lower temperature, say 365 and letting it heat up? Try that, a low temperature setting, get some hits out of it, and slowly bump it up.

I'm just shooting in the dark here since I don't own an Ascent (and no plans for it in the near future), but starting at a low temperature and going up might fix it.

This is a bit off-topic, but has there ever been a vape didn't have some type of issue with the first batch?

For everyone having issues with their units. Have you used it? I'm scared to use it in case davinci will only take back new units. Also how long do they take to charge? Mine has been plugged in for about an hour and a half and still charging.

When I inquired of Davinci by email about the croc skin texture, they assured me in their response that their production units would be of the raised round texture. Here is the correspondence:

Q - Hello - I have noticed that the Ascent Croc version shows different skin textures in different pictures. Some pictures features the croc skin with flat squarish texture, and other pics show a more raised & round skin texture. I prefer the round raised texture. Do the final production runs have one or the other or both? Thanks!

A - In answer to your question, we went with the raised & round skin texture.

So, it appears from the FC forum pics of current units, the flat squarish croc skin ruled the day. Looks ok, but not for me like the other croc skin variant. Need to change my order to the wood burl. Once again, so much for relying on DV for good info.

This is what I thought I ordered...notice the glossy raised round texture:

Did you read your manual, Caulin? Initial charge is up to 10 hours or whenever it says full...

Mine's still charging after 4 hours so far...

Mine charged in about 2.5 hours. Haven't used it yet, will give it a shot in an hour or so.

Can someone give me some charging "Do-s and Don'ts?" I'm not quite sure how often to charge, when to plug it in, and how to avoid overcharging.

I....skimmed over it lol. Sorry for the stupid question and thanks for the reply. Btw I noticed a brown streak in the bowl that I thought just needed cleaned off. It didn't come off. I ran a tooth pick over it and the toothpick catches on the mark. So obviously it is scratched

I'm not sure there was anything ever made ever that didn't have some issues with the first batch.

It's the price we pay to be on the bleeding edge.

Yes but with the countless delays and other things I along with many I'm sure assumed davinci would cover their ass and make sure the first batch was actually ready....but you know what they say about assuming.

As someone already asked, does anyone have one without any of the mentioned "defects" .

And has anybody heard back from DV about these issues?

It's been my experience that a new model of anything from any manufacture usually has some bugs that need to be worked out, but those bugs are typically operational in nature, not cosmetic, as what's being reported here.
Didn't one of the early testers have a panel competely fall off?

Ours doesn't seem quite as bad as some of the others here are reporting. But then, as an Apple user, I'm used to a near seamless fit and finish, which is why I was disappointed with my first impression.

If you're going to brand something as a "luxury vape," it better be as close to seamless as possible...maybe we'll be able to swap out once they get these issues under control. I have a feeling this may have been a rush job to quiet all the complaining.

Looks like there are a few issues.

-- Fogged screens

Don't think they are scratched. Don't think it is condensation (would have been long gone by now). Can't tell if it is perhaps a glue or a film on inner plastic. I'll await hearing more.

@mmenzie -- Ick. Sounds like a mess. :(

> The question is....can I use the damn thing?

At least with the old vape, they were really good about replacing units, regardless. Please read the thread on the old device. I don't think it would be an issue.

> I believe the strange tastes mentioned above go away after a burn off and use?

Yup.

Not sure what to make of the "bowl alignment" issue, but the "some of the rubber seal spills over the top of the bowl on one side... exposed rubber will be vaporized and inhaled" -- It is the silicone that is used as seal you are asking about. Isn't silicone used because it DOES NOT behave like rubber under heat?

> the croc skin doesn't seem to cover the bottom part

I don't understand this. Does this mean the lip on the both the bottom and the top, where the two meet? If so, all models are like that. If not, what part isn't covered?

> it's an XL....I ordered a medium

Wait, we got a choice in shirt size?? I guess I missed that. :(

The bugs being reported here, not all cosmetic, do not sound acceptable to me. Scratched bowls, offset bowl, overhanging bowl seal, glue spots, upside down buttons, glue-loose poor-fitting croc skin, LED window scratched & cloudy, croc skin texture not-as-advertised... what else will be reported? Ridiculous! Quality parts and control look and sound shoddy from where I sit. Thinking about cancelling my order...maybe wait for version 3.

If the silicone seal spills over ,
Doesn't it discount the ' all glass vapor path ' ?

edit ;
what happen to version 2 Snappo ?

Looks like they just slapped this thing together quick n sloppy just to get it out, finally. The quality sounds so low at this point that version 2 would just be a band aide before version 3 really shows real improvements. That's my experience anyway. JMO. Cheers!

For me that is the issue. And even if the seal does not spill over, I believe it may still be possible for the vapor to come into contact with the silicone, therefore negating the "all glass vapor path".

Fair point.

Can those that are seeing this issue please post pix?

I'm having trouble visualizing the issue (also like to see the off centre bowl) and I'm sure the pics would help other.

The following is Pappys pic. Look at upper part of the lower half and it is plainly visible that it is separating.

What I wonder is if these issues happened at the factory, or did they happen in transit due to environmental issues. Either way, they should go through a final QC here stateside before being sent out to consumers.

oh! I think I see now. Like the material was cut just a little short, so there is a gap? Is that right?

Thanks!

EDIT: I was looking at the front of the unit, not the back shot. Thanks @lwien !!

Wow lots of folks with issues (myself included) be they minor or major, I don't see why with all the delays and redesigns this thing didn't roll out iphone clean!?!?! I believe that davinci will take care of people though.
I think folks are just going to have to bite the bullet on these quality control issues. They appear to be systemic and possibly adding up to be much too common. If that's so, it could be too much for Davinci to handle. Good luck. Not trying to rain on everybody's parade, but just sayin.
