@chimpybits, O-rings are necessary and if you want to save the hassle get it from PV. One will come with your PVHES stem but they get hard after a while and lose some grip. You can order a huge bag full if you are so inclined. I also suggest the PA but you can wait for the Tim/Pipes one which will have way more versatility which will be great in a car or camper or where ever. I know you said you don't need a PA but with the one that is coming down the pipe I think it would make your solo way better. The tube for the stem is only an extra buck so even though OF's solution works a buck isn't much for a ready made one.

As OF suggested off my suggestion long ago use the stock stems first to learn the solo even though you are buying the PVHES. There is a learning curve and I feel it is important to learn it as is before moving on. It will give you a clue to it's limitations if you want to call it that. It will also help you with the proper draw and air flow. You won't even learn this till the natural retaining ring loosens up. I wouldn't even put in the o-ring till you fully learn it either. Give it at least a week of good use IMO.

For everyone info if you don't know, the tubes that are used to hold the stem are 2 liter bottles and can be bought on line for fairly reasonable as well. I think it comes up if you google test tubes but don't quote me.

Regarding the stems, I used the stock stems for around 3 weeks before deciding the draw was too restricted. I got myself a straight PVHES and loved it right up until I was a little too baked and started throwing it up in the air and catching it with out really thinking about what I was doing.. You can guess what happened next.

This of course forced me back onto the stock stems. I bloody love 'em! Much better hits and darker ABV than the PVHES, imo. Clearly my solo still had breaking in to do when I switched to PVHES. The lighter ABV with the PVHES may not be an issue if you are a low temp vaporist as you can just turn the temp up a notch. If like me you go to 7 every time then obviously you can only get it so dark with no more heat available. It feels like a waste to tip out light brown herb.

What I'm trying to say is don't rush into buying PVHES. I think it was Dreamerr who advised me to wait and I should have listened. For me my PVHES still has it's uses. When out walking my Jack Russel my lungs appreciate that extra bit of oxygen haha

Alright, a Solo, oversized screens, O-rings and perhaps a travel tube will be my order - if I go Solo. I do feel compelled to get a portable soon. I have the cash and summer outside with possibilities of **clouds** beckons.

At least you didn't quote the invisible post from yesterday . Leave it to you stu to bust my chops:p

If you go solo ugh chimp lol. One reg screen will come with the PVHES stem if you get one. I happen not to like my screens domed at the moment cause I want a bigger bowl. I use a standard household straw after a session to suck up the abv from all my vapes. In the solo both the stem and crucible.

Don't know 'em. But for ten bucks more PV (and I think PIU still?) will ship it to you, do they charge shipping? Both PIU and PV are known strong supporters of this Forum with lots of fans, they are more than 'legit' in most folks opinions I bet?

OF

Yes, includes shipping. PV rocks and will check them out but for some reason I had $220 at PV stuck in my medicated mind.

Skip the O-rings .
You can get those at any Home Depot or hardware stores .
But ask PV to throw in a few Omicron Mouthpiece tips for you .
It will help with the air flow when inhaling . ime

They look like these ;

Poonman, I actually have to disagree with you cause as we said many times the ones at hardware stores aren't high temps and we shouldn't play with our health like that for a few bucks. As far as the condoms go that is a good place to start if you don't buy the pvhes stem. I still say use stock for a while first even if you purchase extras.

I thought they did have them at Home depot , the high temp ones , correct ?
But Dreamerr 's right about the safety factor .

I just meant , more easily to get than the specific size shaped tips .
both can be purchased online .

Hmm interesting. Couldn't hurt to try 'em.
I'm not confident silicone high-temp O-rings are carried at my local HD, but I guess I could look into it. Nah, I doubt I can be bothered. Either 2.25 (plus shipping if I order separately) via PV or not at all I expect. Doubt I'm interested in the travel tube really. Thinking of my kit already and I imagine the Solo, stem, small herb container, and ABV container in some sort of case - perhaps a large soft-shelled glasses case - and the glass stem protected with felt or something. I'm inclined to get used to the straight stem for portability sake.

Chimp as a stem holder before I bought the tubes, I used neoprene from a free beer holder I had. It was easy to make and it fit my bent and straight stem perfectly. I gives some protection but not as much as some would like. For me it was plenty. I have dropped it with no issues. I have put it in my pocket and even sitting it didn't break.

The problem with the TRAVEL TUBES in my case I don't keep breaking stems so I can't make excuses to order more. Don't protect your stems so you can just break them and by new ones.

Money grows on trees anyway!

I store my ABV in a empty plastic bottle.

Hey FC, just wanted to pop in and say that I've had my Solo for almost 48 hrs now and it's already gotta be one of my most favorite things I've ever bought!

Gotta thank all you folks here for the crap-load of information- I have yet to make a vape purchase I regret and thanks to you all I don't think I ever will.

Forgot to read the directions that came in the box b/c after a few hundred pages here I had already deemed myself an expert :) Did 2 burn-off cycles on 7 as i've read here, while loading a stem. Tried the straw method of loading the stem and got my feelings hurt when I ate a mouthful of barely ground herb :( Scooped the herb in instead and packed it down pretty tight in an attempt to avoid another unwanted snack.

The hits off this thing are mind blowing! And for me the flavor is unmatched! I've never used an all-glass path before- WOW! I've been kicking myself since the first hit for not grabbing one of these bad boys before! And I only had it on 2!! Once I got a somewhat thinner hit I'd raise the temp 1 notch and the clouds were back in full blast. Around temp 4/5 I could start to feel a little warmth from the vapor but it was still cooler than my MZ or LB any day.

At this point most of the flavor was gone from the herb so I started to get the kinda electrical taste others were talking about with new units-(two stems later it was never to be smelled or tasted again.)

After a couple hits on 5 I went to 7 and took the last couple of hits thru my baby bubbler and got two final decent sized clouds. The cashed stem was dark brown thru&thru- waaaay darker than I've ever seen avb from the few portables I've tried and even a shade darker than my MZ! I didn't have to stir it once and that unexpectedly became one of my favorite parts of this vape!

My screens arrived today- layed a screen flat in the stem and the amount of debris was cut down more than half. Added a domed screen to that and all kindza magic happened! The bowl was instantly half the size (which for me is perfect), 98% of herb stayed in the bowl instead of escaping to the stem, and while airflow was fine before I can tell now it's a bit of an easier pull and I can use my super fine grind I grew to love with my launch box.

All that to say, so far so awesome! I'll get some pics up when more of my setup arrives; i've got an ever-growing wish list of accessories on PV, the eBay 3D charging dock is on its way and will soon order either the infamous bubbler or the PN WT to pair with it (AHHH I CAN'T DECIDE!!)
Thanks once again FC for all your help; I have yet to make a vape decision that I wasn't thrilled about and that is 100% attributed to U lovely folks :)

thats awesome man, i just recently converted two guys to the solo, and a third when he gets money. The first two told me they quit using lighters, havent smoked since they got it.

To the rest of you, i was thinking about getting a custom stem made, with a larger bowl. I think it might be cool if you could see the very top layer of herb, so you could gauge when the load is cashed, just a thought. I have noticed that if you try, you can get alot more out of one stem then thought before. I loaded .12 in my bent one, and ran it for two straight cycles on 7 and could have gone longer by acting like i was sipping the vapor out of it to make one big breathe out.

:)

The MFLB was my first vaporizer.
Was a good introduction to vaporizing however once I got the SOLO I stopped using it because the SOLO flavor was so much smoother. There are many who swear by the MFLB. I even bought 2 dozen batteries to keep it active however tasted like burnt pop corn after vaping the SOLO. I guess it depends if you are a flavor or cloud chaser.

If dispensable income is a factor I would get the Infamous Bubbler first.
It will do the job of water path.
The GonG adapter is a must!

Welcome to the FUN!

I've gotten a couple of friends to buy vapes but they're all too stubborn to ditch the lighter :(

I'm scared to taste the LB now, I am definitely with U on the flavor chasing- I enjoy vaping most of my stem on 2/3. The flavor with this thing is so clean that trying to get the most outta my herb starts to taste really bad (still better than combustion :)) What I've found myself doing the most is hitting the stem directly on the lowest temps, then once the flavor is lost I go to the 5/6 range and hit thru my tiny waterpipe.

You got that right, I'm definitely digging the price of the bubbler but that WT sitting on top of the solo seems like a dream setup (I don't recall having seen this in action tho- could anyone point me in the direction of a vid?). I'm going to ATTEMPT to order the GonG adapter when PV goes back live so that gives me about 4 days to pick which water piece...

And all this fun has me blowing thru herb like it's nothing just because I'm having too much fun playing!

My only thought is that the heat may not penetrate the load and the bottom (top?) layer will not get thoroughly cooked.

I might grab a Solo. The potpourii dish intrigues me. My girlfriend enjoys aromatherapy to relax herself. Is it possible to fill the dish with some water, few drops of essential oil, turn on the Solo and let it fill the room with the aroma?

Its a small device...won't be able to fill the whole room but then again I never tried...but it will work for sure.
