I was not impressed with the bulletproof brand coffee, but I do use the bullet proof recipe for my morning travel cup - coffee, grass-fed butter, a scoop of collagen, some MCT oil.

I just got the SS filter, and it definitely improves the quality of the Aeropress. I really love the coffee from this thing. It makes for a great filtration device for QWISO or any similar fluid needing of quick straining. What usually takes minutes to filter is done in about 10 seconds. GREAT application for it.


Don't know if you know about the inverted method with the AeroPress, but if you're using the SS filter, this would be the preferred way to do it. Many of those that still use the paper filters feel the same way as well.
If ya don't, I'll gladly post it up.

I had a feeling that if anyone would appreciate one of these, it would be you t-dub :D I bought one for my wife for Christmas a couple years back, and it is awesome. Always a hit with guests...it's like a cool piece of lab gear, that makes an excellent brew.

They apparently last a long time as well, which is one of the reasons I bought one. We were going through the cheaper machines almost yearly. Folks report having their machines for 25+ years...so far so good!

Hope you enjoy it once you grab one :rockon:

I did not know about that inverted method, and that's a great idea. I was wondering about a longer brew time with this thing. I guess it's a reason to have another cup of coffee.

Here's how I do that inverted method.

Set grinder a few steps above expresso grind.
Grind two AeroPress measuring spoons of coffee.
Heat water to 200 degrees (just off a boil).
Insert plunger into Aeropress to the #4 marker (see pic below), and then flip upside down.
Put in coffee
Pour 200 degree water up to the number four mark.
Set timer for 1 minute
Stir for 10 seconds
Fill the remainder of the container all the way to the top
Lay filter on top
Screw in Aeropress end cap (won't totally screw in like it would with paper but that's ok. it screws in just enough to hold it in place)
When timer goes off, flip the unit upside down and plunge into mug like you would normally do with an un-inverted Aeropress, but push lightly so that it takes a full 30 seconds for the plunge
If you want the full taste of coffee along with a tad of bitterness, plunge all the way to the bottom.
If you want to totally eliminate any bitterness, plunge all the way down until you hear the air being pushed through, then stop.
Fill the rest of the mug with water too about an inch from the top.
Put some milk into microwave for about 25 seconds.
Take out of microwave and froth with AeroLatte for about 20 seconds
Fill the remainder of mug with frothed milk
Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on top
Sip with a smile.....

Sometimes, I just drink my coffee black. Depends on the mood

I know this all sounds a bit complicated but in all, it takes just a few minutes to make. Enjoy

I realized I'm not nearly as serious about my coffee as I thought.

French press added to my wish list.

lol i couldnt help but think of this when i saw thread title:

but yeah, i used to drink coffee a lot back when i smoked, the mix of coffee and cigarettes was one of my favorites for a few years there, couldnt get out of bed without it. Now days i'm mostly into teas, but have been getting into coffee again because of the (surprisingly good) coffee machine at work. Nothing as fancy as what some have described/shown in here, but i've managed to enjoy the flavor without thinking about wanting a cigarette too much :p

Hey lwien, you stole my recipe! Except I use an Able stainless steel disc. BEST coffee, easy to do, and consistent results. After doing it this way for a year or so, I am so spoiled. All other coffee sucks!

I also use the Aeropress inversion method but try to limit the water temperature to around 180 to 190. Before flipping it onto the cup for pressing, I push all of the air out until the filter just starts to get wet. I guess that makes it more of a Hydropress.

Started using a disc of felt cloth for a filter about 4 years ago. Have continued to use the same piece of felt cloth twice a day and it is still going strong. I just rinse it out and let it air dry. Lets all of the oils come through and does a great job of filtering out the very fine grind I like to use.

I ran out of #4 cone paper filters for my drip maker one day and didn't feel like running out for more so I cut a 9" diameter disc of felt cloth from a 9" x 12" sheet. I folded the disc in half twice and then unfolded one of the layers from the others so that it formed a cone. Very similar to the Chemex brewing system.
The cone fits right down into where the paper filter goes and works quite well. I found there are several brewing systems that use a cloth bag to hold the grounds. It allows more oils to come through than with a paper filter and filters out the very fine grind. Just dump the grounds and then rinse off the felt cloth. Squeeze out the water and hang to dry. You never need to buy paper filters ever again. The cost of the felt cloth is about $0.25 per sheet. I have yet to find out how long they will last. It just keeps working.

I use a hand blender to froth my coffee. It makes a large amount of crema / foam depending upon the temperature and strength of coffee. I think it improves the taste as well. Sort of like letting wine breath. Speaking of wine. The hand blender also works great for aerating wine and spirits. Frothing wine will age the taste by 10 years. A side by side taste test will make you think they are two different wines. Whiskey and brandy tastes much more fruity. I don't use the same blender for coffee that I do for wine / spirits.
Never more than just a quick touch of the on button or you will have a big mess to clean.

I'd be very likely to use a fine-woven hemp cloth, or even a nice bamboo cloth.

I just use the polyester felt cloth from a craft store. I started with white but it is now a creamy brown. I figure if I am already brewing my coffee with black rubber and poly tubes (Aeropress), that a little more plastic isn't going to hurt. The nice thing about the felt cloth is that there is no weave to loosen or tear. It just keeps working. I wonder if they make hemp felt cloth.

My mom used to use a percolator with that little glass knob on top so you can see the water percolating. Maxwell House in the can. Had to be the absolute worst tasting coffee I ever had.
That would have been my grandma :)

Ha you guys are describing both of my grandmothers. One had a toddy and one had a stovetop perc. The latter was wired 24/7, chain smoker as well. Lost a lung but lived into her 90's. I liked the toddy okay but it's not the same. Plus I like to "de-acidify" once in a while with yerba mate for a week or so and I wouldn't have to do that with cold-brewed lol. The toddy grandma is still going strong at 101 years!

I'm a traditionalist, nothing beats a cappuccino made in a Bialetti mocha pot on a flame. I use a french press with 50 micron mesh and a simple but specific method to froth my hot milk, makes amazing microfoam that has a marshmallow like texture, now I'm thirsty!

Electric water kettle.

I've since hung my half dozen tea cups under the upper shelf. It's complete. :)
