"Clear Concentrate"

These started showing up at Harborside in Oakland and San Jose:
“The cleanest, purest extract on the market,” is on the shelves of Harborside Health Center
the_clear_samples.jpg

“[Clear concentrate] utilizes heat and pressure [to create a concentrate in which] no solvent is detectable at the part-per-billion scale. Clear Concentrate is a solvent-free product,” the dispensary states.

The only downside is they're not cheap:

I initially dismissed them as just overpriced, but if they really are solvent-free they might be extremely tasty!

Has anyone tried a Clear Concentrate? I wonder if you can notice a difference to bho/wax?

Sounds like vacuum purged BHO (or some other solvent extraction) to me as it states that no solvent is detectable at the part-per-billion scales. If they didn't use a solvent for extraction why would they feel the need to state that it isn't detectable at "x" scale? Heat and pressure... it should say "heat and low pressure" Now that really sounds like a heated vacuum chamber to me. I know a lot of dispensaries pass off BHO as other types of concentrates since they can't legally sell it; sounds like this is no different. I'm not saying they're blasting shit out of a can, but that just sounds like some sort of well-purged solvent extraction that they're trying to lead consumers to believe is something else. Of course I'm purely speculating and have not checked the link.

Edit: checked the link, my feelings on the subject have not changed.

These were my first feelings as well, and I remain skeptical, I don't see how you can squeeze and heat flower to get concentrate out...

Maybe it really is just purged bho lol, I found a review: http://www.reddit.com/r/CannabisExt...of_that_clear_concentrate_from_harborside_67/

"This stuff is weird! In a good way but definitely different than anything I've had before. The taste is good, not too strong and definitely doesn't scream Jack Herer to me.
Do not know how it was made, I'd guess some type of winterization was done because It's so damn smooth but light on the taste. It does almost taste and smell peppery, so i guess that would come from the Jack but not much sweetness.
I'd say this isn't worth it, the HBC pure wax (supposedly theyre the only guys making wax full scale with this process) is awesome! It lasts forever and doesn't lose taste, smells and tastes amazing (though they claim its always full bud this could be the reason)."

So it sounds like if anything it the taste is a bit light :(

Also, "I have a gram of the JH from them as well. It's kinda funny for me too. For something that's "solvent-less" I've never had something sizzle so loud on the nail."

So that's not really good either... I guess it's one of those things that looks better in pictures:

I don't think I'll be trying it after those reviews, $60 is just too steep IMO.

I have tried clear concentrates, and honestly if I'm really spending $60 on a gram of concentrate I would rather go to elemental wellness and pick up some nug budder with %90 THC vs the Clear concentrate that had around %60 IIRC

more info on their technique would be nice. checked the site but does not give too much insight...
it seems like it could be condensed vapor?? that would explain the lack of flavor, due to a lot of the terpines being boiled off.

Anyone see these before? They just showed up down here in San Deigo via an MMJ dispensary that has been getting items from Harborside's menu lately.

IDK much about it, other than that it's supposedly "solvent free" (Harborside and PGP offer barometric extracted nectar/wax, but IDK if this is the same process) and it supposedly tests crazy high in THC. The BT there tells me the flavor profile is "amazing", but the consistency is somewhat liquidy/runny at anything above room temp. If hes telling the truth, I assume its not a C02 extraction (although thats still a solvent). He also said he didn't think it would work well in "G Pen style" vapes given its consistency. Not an issue with my Hercules, or even a standard Omicron cart, but interesting none the less.

Anyway, the cost is up there @$60g... although thats a deal compared to their full bud nectars which go for $80/g. They also only use glass containers, which is a plus. I've yet to try this myself. I probably will at some point, but most of my extra funding went to buying flowers so I can play with my Solo (that sounds dirty).

In the meantime I wanted to see if anyone has heard of or tried this stuff before. Heres the detailed info... looks like they have quite a selectionf. Check out the pics, the concentrate looks pretty crazy!

Clear Concentrates - Once sold exclusively at Harborside Health Center in Northern California, The Clear Concentrates is the first company to really push their name and ideal for serious SOLVENT-FREE concentrates. Clear Concentrates made its way from the Bay area to San Diego by PgPD in an effort to bring amazing concentrates at affordable prices to patients all over the county. Their safe, solvent free, decarboxylated (active via oral ingestion or even your tea/coffee), lab tested method is setting the standard for medical cannabis concentrates so it is easy to say… "The difference is clear!" The Clear Concentrate, is a honey/waxy concentrate that is easy for dabbing or great for oral ingestion since it has been decarboxylated to use in almost any form! All lab testing information is available through The Werks as well as us! (Minimum - 81% THC)

I'm kind of hoping this is like Pure Gold, but with different flavor.strain choices and a larger CBD spectrum while being in a slightly thicker medium.

Hmmm...

In the nearly seven years since Harborside opened, we’ve seen hundreds of cannabis preparations. Our HBC wax was the last unique concentrate developed—until now. Discovered by our purchasing team at Hempcon in San Jose, The Clear is a remarkable addition to our growing roster of solvent-free concentrates. Just as its name suggests, this oil is transparent, with a tint that ranges from electric yellow to amber honey. Uniquely developed to isolate the THC and terpenes (the chemical compounds that create the aromas in different strains).

The highest testing one so far was a Jack Herer, which topped out at an impressive 82% THC—that’s THC not THCA! The flavor varies by strain, with some like the Jack having a strong piney taste, whereas the Red Congolese is much more subdued but incredibly powerful. Overall the flavor is cleaner and the smoke less dense than cold water or BHO. For now The Clear is only available at Harborside, either in Oakland or San Jose. Any fan of concentrates, no matter what type, really needs to try Harborside’s exciting and exclusive new product. The Difference is... The Clear. Embrace safe dabbing!

Fine... I'm ordering some now
Didn't Barry Bonds take something called The Clear? :hmm:

If its good nuf for MLB players, its good enough for me!

...seriously though, I'm waiting for the delivery person right now. Update to come!

Okay, so I picked up some of the Ultimate OG clear concentrate. I was looking for a strong indica to help with back pain. As an afterthought I also got a gram of Gods Gift shake for $5. From just the popcorn nugs I got out of it, that was well worth it.

Anyway, they no longer give this stuff out in glass jars. People were complaining that it stuck too much. So what then? My concentrate came in a latex silicone twist top container. Fancy shit compared to the cheap acrylic containers concentrates typically come in! Hell, its so nice I'm keeping this thing, I'm sure it will get some good use! But i digress... im sorry im a nerd when it comes to packaging.

Now, I still have lemon skunk shatter in my hercules so I can't use that yet. As such I wasn't able to get the pure flavor of the concentrate. I ended up melting some into a nug of that gods gift and stuck it in my solo. What's awesome about that is that I got my pinnacle watertool in the mail as the delivery guy was dropping my meds off!

Packed the PVHE GonG, set the Solo to 7 and let er rip. I got a strong pine/lemon taste right away whcih is for sure from the concentrate (thats what the raw concentrate smells like). Finished the bowl, the ABV cane out brown and bone dry. I got about 5 good rips out of it. BTW its much easier to get big clouds wwith the PNWT!

20 minutes later and my pain is gone. Back feels amazing... almost like the onset of an e roll (or so I've read)! I cant really say the flavor is super amazing (better than pure gold though) but ill leave that call until I can try it without the herb. Effect on the the other hand will keep me coming back if this is how it treats me every time. No doubt about that.

Did I mention how tits these containers are?

@DubCRider I'm thinking this is an SCF CO2 extraction... do youknow anytanything about this product? Ill post pics later. The stuff is (as you would assume) SUPER clear with a gold tint to it (similar to pure gold) and is not very viscous.

Yup! I'm holing one of those containers right now. Really brilliant idea IMO. Ill edit the above post to reflect this. Silicone > latex

Edit

Just tried it out of the Persei/Hercules via the PNWT! Shit hits like a ton of bricks! The PNWT apparently has the perfect draw speed to really milk the Hercules. I had instant bong like milk! Choked out twice already.

Anyway after tasting that I'm more inclined to believe its CO2. Tastes almost just like the other CO2 wax I had @DubCRider look at in another thread. That being said I'm drooling on myself right now. Time to space out. Shit gets an A for potency for sure... but like the other co2 wax I had, the flavor is mostly pine/lemon which isn't the greatest. Its not BAD but not what I'd consider good either.

They vehemently claim that no CO2 is used in the extraction all over their instagram feed, which is worth checking out!
It's viscosity clearly indicates that it's decarbed oil (which points towards a particular type of extraction we're wuite familiar with), but the colour throws me off a little, very light.
Have read a few posts by folks claiming to be close to the manufacturers, and apparently this method requires some expensive lab equipment.
Also read some unverified claims that they add terpenes to the end product, but should be taken with a pinch of salt until backed up with facts..

keep the info comming please :)

for some of you here in the 'knowing', what exactly is it that puts CO2 oil apart from oils derived in a different method?

the clear colour also is hard to explain if the thc is truly thc and not thc-a...I guess the science connected to this plant is growing exponantually...nice:lol:

Well I spoke to one of the dispensary owners about it. He said the people who make it are purposely very vague when they talk about the process. He's pretty sure there is some sort of barometric process going on with pressure, vacuum, heat and cold... but as far as the specifics go he's just as clueless as the rest of us.

Now I see what you're saying about the texture not being CO2 like... is say its more in line with alcohol derived concentrates? The CO2 meds I've gotten have a similar viscosity but they are jelly like, while this Clear will string up on you like a wax. Very odd and hard to put my finger on especially since the color, small, and taste are very CO2ish IMO (but with limited experience).

I think I'm going to order more of this stuff today but in a didifferent strain/flavor to see if tthere's any noticeable difference in taste and/or smell. You know... for science and all that.

From my limited experience and from speaking to others, I've found that CO2 has lackluster flavor. In fact with the exception of one specific brand that I'm sure flavors their oil, all the CO2 derived concentrates I've had taste and smell very much like this Clear extract. That is to say, lemony with some pine to it. Also, as I stated above the CO2 oils I've had (IDK if oil is the right term) are of a soft jelly like consistency... its like something you might spread on a piece of toast. Its also my understanding that on average CO2 has a broader spectrum of THC/CBD vs BHOs... although I may have that ass backwards.

I'm loving "The Clear"!! I've been hitting this stuff exclusively for about two weeks now. Here are some of the various strains I have tried thus far: GSC, GSC x Strawberry, Jack Walker and Ultimate OG( I will sample the Ultimate tonight). First impressions of the product:

First off, I must say I'm very impressed with both the potency and taste of "The Clear". IMO, "The Clear" tastes much better than both Pure Gold and the Organna Labs Syringes. Pure Gold tastes very medicinal and has a funky orange taste to it, while OL Syringes taste better than PG, it still doesn't taste like cannabis but much more pleasant than PG. OTOH, The Clear tastes like cannabis and produces a very smooth satisfying vapor on the exhale. The Jack Walker( Jack Herer x Sky Walker OG) is nothing less than phenomenal!! Just a great 50/50 hybrid with a great taste on the exhale...pine, lemon, earthy... Not medicinal in taste at all. I've heard the the Ultimate OG is quite flavorful as well. I will try tonight!!

As to potency, all of "The Clear" I've tried was very potent. Sometimes too potent LOL.. I've found myself at times a little too medicated for the daytime and had to dose down. Keep in mind, my tolerance level is moderate YMMV. Bottom line, it's very strong and effectively relieves mild to moderate pain and gets you seriously medicated. At nighttime I hit this stuff hard for major relaxation and good quality sleep, and it works very well....

What I like about this stuff, is the consistency is a little thicker than PG and OL stuff. The consistency works very well in my Cera, and I'm sure would work equally as well in other top quality set ups such as the Persei and omicron. It also works well in dab style pen vapes. I've had several nice tasty dabs with my Dabbler!! I've never experienced any leaking with this stuff loaded in Cera.

When I first got "The Clear" it was dispensed in little glass containers which worked well for their high end Nectar, but not so good for this product. I found that It was very difficult to scrape clean from the glass. I emailed the dispensary about this issue (as I believe others did as well), and they responded. As Caligula stated They now dispense "The Clear" in some very nice silicone containers which makes it super easy to scrape clean!! So yes Caligula, those containers are the tits!! In fact, I'd like to dip a tit into the container, swoosh it around a little and suck it clean!! I'll see what my wife thinks of that tonight!!

I too would like to know more about the extraction process of "The Clear"and hear more user reviews of the product. Maybe some Nor Cal guys can chime in on this thread as they've had more experience and access to "The Clear" than most of us.

Chill Dude,

Great Scott!
To be honest it looks just like BHO absolute to me after winterization in ethanol.

I don't get why they can't mention how its made, that is generally pretty unacceptable in my book. Hard to call it helping patients if you won't share the "secret recipe" for meds.

I think they expect you to be satisfied with the fact that its a "solvent free" extraction and that its tested for this and that. That's meh, but I can't argue with the results.

@Chill Dude please let me know what u think of the Ultimate Og flavor.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to try it, but they are either lying, or being assholes.

Either they won't share the info because they know it has solvents and is then just purged, or they are assholes and won't share the info because they care more about it being "exclusive" than they do helping patients who choose to visit competing locations for their meds.

That's fair except this isn't one dispensary doing the extraction. Its a company ("lab") that then sells their proprietary product to various clubs/dispensaries. That puts them in the same class at Tertalabs, Organalabs, et al. IMO because it's a business as such I can't see a real reason why they should share their procedures with their competition. This is especially true if their process takes big budget equipment. That would mean only well funded companies could afford to do this, so sharing the process wouldnt help the individual looking to do this at home.

But again, that's just IMO.

I totally agree. Personally, I feel much more comfortable using a product made with safe extraction practices in a professional Lab and fully tested for purity, potency and cannabinoid profile than getting some BHO product made in some dudes garage who may not even have a clue what he's doing. In fact, I have no problem paying a little more for a clean and potent product. After all, as you've said they've probably invested in very expensive manufacturing and testing equipment to produce "The Clear".

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with well purged and fully tested BHO. The problem is it is very hard to find. The sad truth is that if you purchase BHO from most dispensaries you really have no idea of the purity of the product. I guess you can do a foil test or see if you taste residual butane in the product, or maybe you think you can judge purity from the color of the concentrate?? That might be good enough for some but not for me..... I'd rather have certainty of purity and potency before I purchase a concentrate.
