After ringing from Australia half a dozen times i was finally able to talk to a very tired and harassed employee. One thing i think we need to remember is this "delay" and the frustration of many was caused through the total lack of TRUTHFUL information from MANAGEMENT and NOT from the poor employees that have to bear the brunt of angered customers. All this crap is GREAT for sales but not for the workers. She told me that she has been working 24/7 and since last week and all weekend gathering the shipping boxes etc ready to post the Ascent`s. She says that when she came to work today she knew she was going to cop it!! Apparently management are only JUST starting to put on extra workers for the end of the week. I cant believe they are such stingy bastards to make there (from what i gather) couple of workers get all this stuff together knowing they had huge orders ahead of them and the huge profits that they would be getting also. Geez i should be a union man!! I guess im trying to say "dont shoot the messenger".

You speak Chinese ?

Ya I always blame management too , never the employees .

I'm not kidding about this and neither should you.

What happened Friday night? I also received the email to pre-order between 5-8PM PT but am still unable to do so on the website.

How many think davinci may be full of gibberish about the whole customs snafu?

No way this thing can live up to the hype right.
Edit Just to be clear I didn't really order anything.

Not likely. Too great a liability if delays were ever challenged in court, or court of public & business opinion. A lie like that could sink a ship.

My guess...and it is only a guess...

Is that they found out during the day Friday that their shipment was being held up in Customs. And so, they decided to hold up allowing any more orders flowing in until that shipment clears or new shipments are on site...

Then again...I probably don't know what the fuck I am talking about... :)

When a company takes my money, and in writing says that my item will ship on the 29th - that is a contract. As a businessman, I understand how low their business practices are. It wouldn't be acceptable for me to: not meet my contracts, to continually misinform (if not downright lie) to customers, to just disappear and not keep customers informed, to have no follow through, to just establish dates my customers will receive their products reguardless of these dates having any basis in fact, or any of the myriad of other poor business practices that davinci has shown. The bottom line is, they have a product that we want, so we are tolerating their unprofessional (and imo, unethical) business practices. I'm not sure why so many people defend these (imo) blatantly deceptive business practices while attacking anyone who is observant enough to notice and take offense. An occasional hello from the company doesn't do it for me. That said, I'm in the same boat as everyone else, twiddling my thumbs, wondering what excuse they will come up with next.

Just to be fair, if they aren't full of gibberish a customs delay is completely out of their control. Now could they have accounted for that delay in their initial shipping estimates? This is the q imo.

I've been monitoring this product since pretty early this year, and the setbacks are really just laughable at this point. I remember being excited on May 15th because it was thought they would start taking preorders then.

I still haven't received any preorder emails either, and I preregistered quite a while ago.

It's similar to putting up with an annoying friend because his family has a boat or something.

DV's customer internet relations and communications practices leave TOO MUCH to be desired. Their race track record consistently puts the cart before the horse, and we consistently place our bets in favor AAA rated champion "Wishful Thinking".

Under promise........over deliver. THAT is the key to any successful business, and if by chance, you find that you have over promised and under delivered, which in reality, will always happen at one point or another, than it is paramount to communicate WHY you find yourself in that position and clearly state what the current update is and apologize to your vendors and customers with whom have trusted you to meet your commitments. And that communication HAS to happen directly, BEFORE those vendors/customers find out from a third party.

The first inkling as to how DV runs their business happened when they announced that they would run a contest and what is happening here is just a continuation of that first fiasco.

Sticks one time asked me, when I was making comments such as this, if I was in fact, in the market for an Ascent. For me, even if I was in the market and even if the beta units came in with great reviews, I would have a tough time doing business with a company who I cannot trust to stand behind what they say they're going to do and worse, not to maintain communication when things fall between the cracks. To me, THIS is not gibberish or nonsense, but in fact, an indictment for a marketing and customer service effort that has gone off the rails.

DV, it has been said here more than a few times by some that you really don't owe anyone here an explanation. Well, I beg to differ. The community here has not only stood behind you (in my opinion, way too long), but has been instrumental in helping you come up with a better product and they really do deserve better than this.

because "Samantha" is a mouthful.
I didnt receive anything, and my order is still "awaiting fulfillment"

VaPeD&CoNfUsEd called davinci and was told of the customs delay.
That's more than a little infuriating. It's DV's responsibility to notify people WHO ACTUALLY GAVE THEM MONEY of any delays and broken promises. One should not have to take the initiative to personally contact them.

If DV wasn't already a well-established and respected company, everything about this would smell like a huge scam.

It's one thing to dodge explanation of delays before a product is released, and another thing entirely once you've taken people's money. DV needs to get better at communication, and rapidly.

well....

i was all upset a minute ago when i realized today was the day to order finally and i thought i might have missed it.

so in a fury i pull up the email, follow the link and at first worry it's too late.

then i check this thread...and sadly, felt relieved.

so, should we expect an email update about the sale not happening as announced ?

or should we stalk the website like creeps assuming the links will suddenly work soon ?

Wouldn't their customer base be exactly who they owed an explanation to?

They should owe an explanation to everyone who got a DV wink, nod, and handshake...to include an explanation to their own conscience. STOP PLAYING WITH OUR SINCERE EXPECTATIONS!

If DV wasn't already a well-established and respected company, everything about this would smell like a huge scam.

Racist? You've got to be kidding me. That label has such impact, that it should never be diluted like this.

Bordierng lining racist to say government officials are reverse engineer shipments help up in customs. It may be a chuckle to those of you to make fun of China but im of Chinese descent and I take offense to that.

I'm not making fun of China. Whatever I have said is fact and is in no way an indictment of the Chinese people but rather an indictment on their government. I have no doubt that if we here in the US had a government that didn't provide any oversight in this arena, that we would be just as entrepreneurial as the Chinese and do the exact same thing. You calling anyone a racist for simply calling out the Chinese government on this issue is silly, but the label, "racist" is so negative, that it goes beyond just being silly.
