The results some of you are getting with AVB are mind boggling, and I don't doubt you, but how is this possible? I figure vaping flowers might only leave like 10% or less THC and CBD, and you all know what the last hit out of a vaporizer tastes like - shit - so how does any of this translate to potent, tasty edibles?

Also, the heating of that remaining ~10% of good stuff the first time it was vaped would accelerate its deterioration, (don't heating and cooling cycles beat the hell out of organic molecules?) decreasing potency, so accumulating AVB over time seems difficult, because the older stuff has already degraded. No?

My few experiments with AVB reclaim over the years has only produced barely-psychoactive products that tasted like a camp fire - I now consider AVB garbage and toss it right away. I tend to believe that if AVB is that potent in the first place, it is not being properly vaped, but I'll take your word for it -- many people here seem to have had better luck than me and way different results.

Not too sure?
All i know is that when i vape i feel a certain way and after eating the brownies i have never been so high for so long in my life, using herb of course!

I tend to also vape on the lower side of the temp scale, so perhaps that preserves some of the active ingredients?

I just spoke to a friend that is a heavy smoker, i gave him a tray of brownies as well.
He said they were really good but just put him to sleep.
His girlfriend said they were really excellent.
So results do vary between people.

If it works for me like it did i will continue experimenting as double bang for buck is worth it!

Olympus- How are you preparing your edibles? How much abv and how dark was the abv you working with? I have had great success using a crockpot on warm and three oz slightly tanned abv with organic non refined coconut oil, lecithin granules, and stems. Let warm for 2-5 days, extract, look for millions of awesome recipes just substitute canna oil instead of butter oil or margarine...

or just put it in pills and skip the food altogether...

10% remaining would be very very efficient. I have read that there is 30-40% remaining. keep in mind some of the goodies are higher temp boiling point and stay in there past most vaping temps.

the heating during vaping does a great job of decarbing for edibles...that's one big reason avb edibles can have such a strong effect.

my avb edibles end up being very narcotic like, and tend to make me sleepy. if they are too strong then i experience flash-back type moments, which i don't like so i don't take huge amounts at one time.

edibles effect people differently, even effect the same people different each time. good luck!

Yeah, I don't deny you guys know what you are doing and are getting blasted. I was not present when some friends made something like iso oil from reclaim a few times, but when they came by the stuff looked black, tasted like hell and barely got us high. Perhaps I shall return to this endeavor with more personal diligence. At any rate, thank you all for the advice. Could be that we vaped the hell out of our flowers so much that our AVB is closer to ash .... but I doubt it, most of it came from a Volcano and other quality, temp-controled vapes.

And yes, I understand the principles of decarboxylation and its importance in edibles.

Edit: In a brownie mix, we figure we each ate 2/3 gram AVB iso oil or whatever the hell it was , black gunk, thick and consistent and not much smell in the bottle, but we could sure as hell taste it, and not even the maker was impressed, said he'd never bother with it again. Had some glycerine soaked edibles or something like that from AVB once before that and had no effect on me whatsoever, yet the maker swears she trips like hell.

Don't eat that oil, dab it! Eat coconut, vegetable, almond oil or butter. Don't eat the iso, extract with high % 90+ with herb, look up qwiso. Good luck man!

qwiso! What a great method, and it makes sense intuitively. Thank you, very interesting, and a little off topic so I won't belabor it, but I always figure the shorter the amount of time cannabis is in contact with solvents, the better.

if the solvent has water or is polar then yes, quicker is better.

coconut oil is non-polar and you won't pick up polar bits no matter how long stays in contact...

Copy that. I am no chemist, just a guy who likes to get high and read stuff online. :D

And hey, if you are like me and hate to admit that you don't have a clue what the hell you are doing, then using water and coconut oil sounds a helluva lot safer than using rubbing alcohol or butane.

Just make sure to freeze your ABV and ISO!
Otherwise you extract too much chlorophyll and it tastes nasty!

Always follow the rules when doing a QWISO wash!!
Everything as cold as you can get it.
Shake like crazy for 30 seconds and strain.
Evaporate under a fan and scrape up the golden goodness!

i'd skip the water and just use coconut oil but yeah it's magnitudes safer for the novice to use things like coconut oil or everclear. my big thing is only using food grade, which is a different standard then even being safe for you.

I would bet a lot of the iso oil you see would test positive for iso still in it...butane oil is easier to purge but you'll still find oil with it in it.

we are all trying to find the correct way of doing things, i'm a big reader too.

your sig is thought provoking, i imagine you've seen quite a transformation in that time...

It is so tempting because I can get some decent cheap buds here, perfect for my own small (oz) batches of hash. I will be trying everything in this thread some day, I promise you all, I am very interested in the coconut oil bases. The QWISO (I keep wanting to call it "Quizno's") alcohol method and the water and ice method I will also be trying. I have a Trader Joe's out here and someone mentioned they carry good coconut oil.

Yes, keeping things cold as possible seems the goal here, I will even pre-freeze containers when I try the hash methods with mid-grade buds.

Question: Any benefit from pre-freezing the alcohol before adding it? Or must it be left at room temp?

Thank you. People told me, "Skip Blu e-cigs and go right to eGos and Kangers" and I did not listen to them and well, you know how it goes. Okay so I'll go straight to coconut oil, but the water fits my budget.;)

Well I told this to my friends and others, just to be safe, when eating anything like concentrates made from butane, rubbing alcohol, or grandpa's old can of turpentine, first be sure to smear it out on a rolling paper and let it sit out for a day or two, in a dark drawer, to make sure that anything that can evaporate does in fact evaporate, then eat the paper with a little buttery confection or something oily to help distribute the oil in the gut. I notice that after a day or two smeared out in contact with the air like this, the oils stiffen and become a little dehydrated. Probably safe enough to eat - BUT YOU ARE RIGHT- it is inherently dangerous for idiots like me and most others to even be messing around with solvents like this.

My sig: I think those e-cig graphics are cool, how you plug in when you quit analogs and it shows how much $$$ one saves and stuff. Figured it could also apply, humorously I had hoped, to cannabis as well. But there is an aspect of serious truth in there as well, as in most comedy, eh? The whole comedy/tragedy thing. We've all seen our share of both, I'm sure.

that method of QWISO will leave iso residuals in the oil. the oil MUST be purged to remove all iso. most people use heat and then some distilled water (has higher boiling point then iso) to get the last of the trapped iso out. the next stage of complexity would be vacuum and heat.

the same has to be done with butane, hexane, etc.

is it enough to hurt you? i'm not sure, again, I chose for myself to only use food grade.

I don't want to ruffle feathers or appear to attack any single person's methods.

No, no, no no no! This is excellent harm reduction information and I and everyone else should appreciate it, and I read it twice and take it to heart. Thank you.

Edit: I did, after all, manage to make it this far: :myday:

I have only evaporated the ISO from my batches.
The alcohol evaporates off and you will be left with a milky residue.
This is the water in the ISO, this needs to be evaporated out as well.
I usually leave mine under a fan for a few days and it is good.

I know that with BHO extractions you need to boil off the residue, or vacuum purge it or do both.

As for ISO i do not know or have read anything about purging.
You can heat it in a hot water bath to evaporate the last of the water from the mixture but as far as i know all the alcohol evaporates out and you are left with a clean oil.

would you make the coconut cannabis oil with the cannabutter recipe or cannabis cooking oil recipe in this thread below or a different technique you would suggest?

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-stoners-cookbook-over-50-recipes.10237/

You can use that recipe!
What i did was use a slow cooker and just let it slowly heat up and kept it that way for about 20 hours.
The brownies were so strong only my friend and myself, who are heavy users, could withstand the trip!
Everyone else ended up tripping balls and puking, not cool!
They later tried a 1/3 of a brownie and it was much better for them.
I took two and that was awesome!
The third one put me to sleep and it was an amazing sleep!

Also with coconut oil there is no water to throw away and i used it straight from straining and into the brownie mixture.

I am thinking of trying some of the oil in capsules and see how that goes!

LOL!! Sorry!

Use the butter one as it cooks for longer.
Or you could do what i did:
Take a small crock pot, add the coconut oil and the ground up herb/ABV and let it simmer on low overnight.
Strain and cook with!

Generally, you can find those little "Dipper" style crockpots, or the slightly larger "small" size, at Goodwill or a yard sale for just a couple of bucks.

Either works well for simmering in.

You can put a piece of silicone hot pad (also pretty widely available) in the bottom, put some water in, and set a jar of oil & herb in it, and let it simmer. Or you can simmer directly in the pot.

I already had a larger size crockpot so i just went ahead and tried that. Seems to have worked out pretty well. I am pretty good just from licking the oil off my hand after straining with the cheesecloth. I put in like 1/2 lb of oil, 3/4 bottle water with 7g of flower for about 16 hours on low. I don't see much separation so im guessing most or all the water evaporated.
