Get a 14mm smaller bong or bubbler and stick the HA straight into the joint.

BAM no more coughing.

The reason you're coughing is the moisture is lost from the herb very quickly, dry vapor hits are irritating. Moisturize that vapor!

I am thinking on the same lines. Though it would become quite an elaborate setup and not usable through the day, but would be awesome for evenings and parties.

I have been discussing bubblers here: http://forum.grasscity.com/toking-tools/834275-help-me-choose-my-first-glass-bubbler.html and people recommended these 2 bubblers:

Headford Inline Bubbler
Ben Wilson 6 Arm Bubbler

Do you think they can be used with the HA? Any favorites around here for what bubbler to use with the HA?

Hi Steiner666,

:science:

How do we know the HerbalAire really extracted all of the goodies out of that ABV???

Well I have tried smoking the ABV from an HA once.... believe me it was the most disgusting thing I smoked. :o I dont know if any relevant molecules get destroyed in the crucible or not but I can assure you, there is absolutely nothing of interest remaining in the ABV coming out of an HA :D

i have tried the extract route with ha abv, and its no good either! in fact, i got such a shit return that its just not worth the hassle of it. also, the end product is not very tasty at all, or effective.

if you have had better luck egzoset, please share. otherwise i will assume we just have different standards as to what we mean by "leftover goodies" in the abv.

darco: if you are from india, and this will be your the only bong you own, then i would suggest that you get yourself any bong that is made from 9mm glass. hvy, us tubes, hoss, biohazard and others all make tubes, beakers etc in 9mm. you could literally drop those tubes off the table and they will be fine. no worries about passing it to the friend who has already had one too many rips! check this out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mdATGyziIY

another advantage of a beaker or a tube is that you can get different downstems to change up the way it hits. slits, or a circ, or holes, on the bottom of the downstem all affect how it clears. in other words they would still be somewhat customizable whereas a dedicated bubbler (i.e., lw 6 arm) isn't.

It's one thing to have "absolutely nothing of interest" left and quite another to have no "leftover goodies", the difference depends on what goodies are.

In any case, this is what i reported on April 26 (almost 2 months ago): http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?pid=128004#p128004

As i recall there was no bad taste, i'm not even sure there was any taste at all...

In a recreational context there were no goodies left for all practical purposes, someone consuming cannabis for its medicinal properties might have argued otherwise.

hahaha! we are totally talking two different languages nest pas? which is why i hadn't known about your previous experience,. well my basic high school french vocabulary allowed me to figure out that we are actually talking about two different things; you are reffering to an alcholic tincture, whereas, i am referring to iso alcohol oil. see my post regarding my findings:
feb 12, hash oil thread

i have since tried green dragon, and i noticed a pronounced effect, however, i think it had more to do with the alcohol than the meds (i am not a fan of the effects of alcohol). i haven't bothered with brown(abv) dragon beacuse i just don't bother too much with my abv at all.

the only thing i use abv for is to stretch out my meds. so i will take some abv (not from the ha though), crush it, mix in some loose kif and then vapebong that in the ha @ 400, works real good! doesn't taste particularly great but the effect is quite noticeable - probably due to the kif more than anything else.

If an alcoholic tincture is something which i can vaporize in my HerbalAire without causing a mess then yes, different languages, but i thought tinctures were absorbed via a body orifice instead, the mouth preferably, euh...

Anyway, that post is two months old but the experience it related takes me back to the end of February, perhaps early March. It's possible the "doped" solid i vaporized did have some faint taste to it, after all, but certainly nothing unpleasant enough to leave traumatic remembrances...

;)

That's about as much as i can tell relatively to my ABV. I should be able to renew the experiment in July, then i might have more vivid memories!

In the meantime, if my recollections are accurate, i'd say that whatever remained in the ABV from my HerbalAire it was hardly "recreational" by my own standards, under normal circumstances - but this doesn't mean someone else couldn't have experienced some benefit from it.

wow guys,
I just finished my best qwiso wash yet! 1/2oz of abv & 250ml bottle of 99.8% iso seperatly in the freezer for 3hrs then mix them together & soak for 25 seconds & then shake for 15secs then soak again for 15secs & then one more 15sec shake then strain via coffe filters & a potato ricer into a pyrex dish.

let sit in a dark well ventilated place for 48hrs or so till all the iso is gone & there is dry crud left in the dish.
I then sprinkle in some of the kief from my 4 peice grinder & get the razor & start scraping.

I got a really nice .4 gram block of really nice sweet looking hash type stuff. Looks like the real deal to me, tastes great, smokes great ( I cant help but to combust concentrates- shoot me lol), smells great.

Now, I agree that smoking it(ABV) taste like total shit, and half an oz of it would take a bit to toke thru.
I tried to find a way to eat it (firecrackers, brownies etc), it either tasted like shit or in the brownies case they didnt do shit.
I have wanted to make green/golden dragon, but its $80 aud for a bottle of bacardi 151 (no everclear here).

whereas the iso costs me $7.

Finding reliable connections here is very hard, so there is no way most people would bin their abv round here. You would kick yourself in a herb drought.

I find qwiso the best option & helps me justify that the HA (or any vape) as the gift that keeps on giving!
I vape about 1/2 oz per week of local bush weed (dankety dank is rare round here, and super expensive),
i then take that vaped poo & spend $7 for some nice extra chocolate buzz that my mates think is cool.
hash is so rare here that we all have trouble telling the qwiso hash from the real deal, in fact I would love to know the difference between qwiso hash & the traditional methods used.

so, if anyone knows how the tibetans or the afghans or whoever used to do it, pls give us the heads up.

purely for educational purposes & learning about other cultures of course.

Traditionally, before cannabis was cultivated (and smokable raw), the method of choice was finger hash. You just take a ton of wild cannabis and roll the buds between your fingers, and after a while you've got hash and it's just a matter of getting it off your figners

BTW, is there any reason not to purchase one of the $170 units off of ebay? Is it a similar situation to the cheap extremes on the market?

Orestes,
I think Herbalaire doesn't F with all that "authorized dealer" business and will service all of their units within the warranty period. Also, failures of their units seem to be freak occurrences! The HA is very reliable, both in a sense of being durable (watch the drop test) and also of being able to work through many, many years of careful use. I've got my issues with it, but it's a workhorse through and through.

I'm a button click away from buying an Extreme Q over Ebay through vapeworld but have not gotten anything resembling a straight answer from Arizer about whether or not it will be serviced should it break down. Like pulling teeth.

You will have a manufacturers warranty with your unit but if purchased from a person/company that is not an Authorized Arizer Distributor it can sometimes take a long time to received any service/support from them as they are not Authorized Distributors. Also, if you require service from us because the retailer is not willing to provide warranty service for you, you will be responsible for the cost of shipping us your unit for service. We strongly encourage our customers to only purchase from Authorized Arizer Distributors so they can receive warranty service locally and save both time and money on shipping the unit to us internationally. You will need to retain the dated proof of purchase to receive warranty service from Arizer.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

Does Herbalaire sell the H2.1 without the pump?

edit

To the source I go.

edit2

no answer. 150$ ebay HA would likely be cheaper that an HA bought direct without a pump.

Any help about cleaning the teflon mouthpiece? I have dunked it into the plastic tube with alcohol for over 2 days even, but the ring around the grill is still dark brown, and behind the wire gauze / grill its un cleanable. I have been using the HA for over a year and have been cleaning it on and off, but it never gets completely clean. It of course does not restrict airflow as I use direct draw from the mouth piece, but I would love the insides of the mouthpiece to be cleaner.

I've also found the main mouthpiece screen very hard to get really clean. I'd suggest scrubing with a toothbrush and ISO.

I have had success with an overnight ISO soak which loosens up the residue. Then I will blast it with hot water which seems to remove the majority of the residue. Then another ISO soak to finish the deal. (For some reason the residue doesn't seem to dissolve completely like it does with glass...)

BTW-With extra screens, the HA is fantastic with glass/bong.

Is it possible to remove the screen from the main mouthpiece? I'd love to be able to just change the screen out every once in a while. That would be so much easier than trying to clean it.

I just bought a slightly used herbalaire yesterday. It had probably been used 20 times before. Considering the only other vape I've had is the iolite, I'm very happy with this thing. It is so so so so so much better. I want to throw my iolite off a bridge after using this thing.

Still though, I can tell the main mouthpiece screen is going to be a bitch to clean and clear. The iolite's screen got the same way, of course. But it was relatively easy to switch out with a new one. I can't really see a way to remove the screen from the herbalaire's main mouthpiece.

Just now I was trying to poke out some of the clogged holes in the screen with a needle. Even after an ISO soak I'm not really making any progress. The screen holes are too small. And I tried a toothbrush, but that only cleans the outside of the screen. There seems to be no way to get the stuff that gunks up the inside. I guess I'll try an overnight soak and see what happens.

Yes! I have a small wooden skewer (the kind you'd use to cook kabobs on a grill) with one sharp end and one blunt end. I use the blunt end to push out the screen before I put the bits in alcohol to soak. Then I clean the screen with a toothbrush and the teflon mouthpiece parts with a pipe cleaner. That baby should be as clean as the day you got it by the time you're finished with it. Then I just slip the screen back into place.

For those who'd are having trouble cleaning your mouthpiece - put the mouthpiece on your HA and turn it on, wait a while till the goo warms up, it will be very easy to clean out using a brush, and hot water, iso if necessary.

The mouthpiece screens are meant to come out to be cleaned, take out the screen to clean the mouthpiece thoroughly. Extras are supplied with the ha btw.

If I lived in Australia, I might be tempted to home brew my own alcohol...

Home-distillation of alcohol is illegal in Australia, but the law is rarely enforced. The sale of stills up to 5 litre capacity and other distilling equipment, including yeasts, flavourings and other ingredients specific to distillation, is legal. Brewery supply stores have permission to sell stills up to 25 L. Australians
Australians - you can posess a still of <5L capacity, but not produce spirits from it.

The Distillation Act of 1901 was repealed (by Act 74 2006) effective July 2006 and the relevant legislation has been moved to the Excise Act 1901.

I had to look that up because I'd thought it was Sweden, New Zealand and Australia, but it turns out it's only legal in New Zealand. (from what I read it kind of fell thru the cracks of a massive government privatization to save money...on prosecutions.)

(Don't you kind of wish they thought like that here? "well it's a five hundred dollar fine, but costs us thousands to prosecute, fuck it, make it legal" and, in the spirit of limited government, they did. they rule! hahaha)

So yesterday, I logged in and spent an hour or so typing out my full review of the HA. After I hit submit, it informed me I was not currently logged in. Not the first time this has happened.

I do not have time to type it all out again, so I'll keep it short. It kicks ass. If anyone is interested in vaping, this is a great first vape. The only improvements I can think of: 1) If it didn't lose vapor. I know it's by design, but I can hope. 2) If it was cordless. Either impossoble or highly impractical, but the hope thing again. 3) If it came with a PD for those times you only need a quick hit or two.

My first and only vape. Very happy with it. If you are on the fence, dive on in. I'm glad I did.

Tip: For those using the main mouthpiece for direct draw, add the white "straw" and a black mouthpiece to it. Works much better than main mouthpiece alone. (Thanks to STEINER666 for that one)

My Herbalaire has just gotten new life. I did what everyone suggested and drilled a larger hole in the mouthpiece. I also got a SWEET bong from Grasscity. It's a 12in two chamber bong with dome percolator, a diffuser down-pipe, and a ice catcher. The herbalaire mouthpeice fits perfectly in the stem. The rips I'm pulling off this combo is F*CKing Awesome. And, I paid only $63 for the bong shipped. I thought I was going to have to shell out $350 for a RooR like my friend has. I also got a SSV whip with the glass mouthpiece and that fits really well over the mouthpiece for tasty whip hits.

Im looking to make the Herbalaire portable. I attempted make it portable with a AC to DC inverter. I got a 150 watt inverter. The bottom of the Herbie says it only uses 50 watts so I thought it'd be fine. Well, it did work fine the first time. The herbalaire got hot, then hotter, then i saw smoke coming out the top and immediately unplugged it. Turns out, I fried it. I've heard it said before and I'll say it again. Herbalaire has Great customer service. They contacted me quickly after my first email and gave me instructions on how to send it in to be repaired. Even though it was my fault for frying it, they repaired it no charge, and sent me a new mouthpiece back too. :)

Has anyone had any success making your Herbalaire portable and would you share your setup. Thanks in advance.
Time to load up a new crucible........
