i unplugged the UD a little while back because i seemed to have random cool downs often..

Mine was doing this using my VVPS, not sure if it was the VVPS or the cord coming loose. Having good results right now with a direct wall power supply. I'm sure I'll get back to the VVPS soon enough to see if it's doing alright again.

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about getting an UD with the VVPS and 14 mm GonG stems, so I can hook it up to my Pinnacle Hydrotube. I have a couple quick questions though:
1) What's the difference between normal UD's and ones with a "Classic Core"?
2) How easy is the VVPS to use? Like is there a chart for what voltage equals what temp?
3) What's the recommended voltage to leave it on 24/7 to extend the UD's lifespan?
Thanks and sorry if any of these are repeat questions!

1) I have a classic core, I think the inner screen is moved and it allows for use with the nylon stems. Minor differences aside from that.
2) VVPS is just a knob that tells you voltage, there's not real comparison, but you'll easily find your sweet spot (12.5-13.5v most likely) and be able to just stick to that area.
3) They 'can' be run on the full default ~13v 24/7, most people who leave the attached all the time will turn it anywhere between 5-10v while at rest.

1) The 'Classic Core' pieces have our previous generation core in them and won't accept the new Nylon Stems. Pieces that don't say anything are all using the newest core that does accept them.

2) VVPS is very easy to use and comes with a sheet that has some general voltage range suggestions, as ogcook noted you'll find your own sweet spot and what works best for you with any given setup.

3) That's a hard question to answer since there's no definitive answer.. that being said the lower the 'standby' voltage the better. I like to recommend a voltage of 10v (or less) for 'standby' to reduce wear and tear on the UD itself. I've found in the past year that even lower voltages will go a long way to reducing wear and tear on the VVPS as well. Users who can do so will find best longevity by turning the power supply off altogether between uses but I know some users use schedule doesn't allow that. :peace:

Ooooookay boys and girls here it is! The newest imported dog! Made it safe and sound! Loving the VVPS and the new core. Definite differences on the two cores, in size and the use of nylon stems. I loooove using SS bowls again.....takes me back to my WDZ......and with the heat the UD puts out its like having a super tiny one hitter for vapor. Nylon=conservation. Anyways here's a hit out the new doggy!
Forgot to mention the GonG stem! Great for flavor but I can't stop usin my trusty ol' silicone! Much fuller hits!

Thanks ogcook and underdog for your responses! :D
So if I plan on using the GonG stems, the core I choose doesn't really matter? Or are there other benefits/disadvantages?
Also, does the GonG stem fit on the UD tightly? The Pinnacle's PonG annoyingly comes off easily when removing the hydrotube to clear, unless you use a twisting motion.

No the gong stem does not fit tightly, but I think you will find that is how you want it. Being glass and all you can't really leave your dog on it forever without it getting super hot.

A few pages back when they were released I posted a video showing how it fits, it just slides loosely over the core.

For putting a hydrotube on top of the dog, I feel like a tight connection would be ideal. For sticking the GonG adapter into a downstem and using the dog upside down, I could see how a loose connection would be ideal. It's not a big deal, I'll just have to hold onto the GonG when i lift the hydrotube. The GonG won't get too hot to hold after one hit, right?

EDIT: Does the silicone stem fit into a 14 mm connection? If so, I may go with those instead of the GonG.

Regular silicon tubing will fit into a 14mm fitting, Alan from TT makes a Universal U Tube that works well for it. Used it with a friend's Pinnacle HT.

Alright cool. So does the glass tube sit on the dog's heating core, or do you stick the glass tube into the silicone stem that comes with the dog?

U tube on the left sitting in a 14mm, pack the glass, set the UD on it. Piece of tube with a screen in it in the middle, UD onto that. Right piece is my 14mm GonG.

Just got back from an impromptu drive down 101 through WA/OR/CA. I have been meaning to review my second UD, a Spalted Tamarind UD. It hits like a champ! The shorter GonG stems I requested work great. They don't have an even cut on the top part of the bowl, and it seems to increase the airflow a bit. I had to compare with the longer one I initially received with my first PH Twig UD, which had an even cut, and thus a bit more resistance. Despite the uneven cut, it still works great. Thank you Dave! I'll attempt to take a pic and post it later! Here is the URL: http://www.underdogvapes.com/index.php/vaporizers/vapes-all/spalted-tamarind-ripple-twig-14998/

So my new red and yellow "flame" vvps came in yesterday, and I figured I would post with some observations. I really like that it has a power switch so I don't have to keep pulling the plug to turn it off, and the "lab style" cord from Dave is of really nice quality, a little more rigid than the "tattoo" style provided.

Also I noticed quickly that while 12.8v on the travel vvps was my "sweet spot" for water, on this vvps it's more like 12.5v, while the "direct draw" 12v setting seemed to taste, feel, and produce about the same on both.

Either way, I'm loving my new setup and won't be in need of any new home vapes for a long long time!:peace:

PS. I recently purchased this Vapor Brothers Mini Hydrator, it goes really well with the Dogs, and the size and "chug" are perfectly suited for vapor! So this is my new daily setup, the Jyarz are perfect for storing ground up material to "suck-fill" the GonG stems!

@ Timm - glad to hear your new Pup is fitting in to it's new home and even got to go on a road trip.. Dogs love road trips. Still working on getting better at making those shorty GonGs, they're much harder to do than the longer ones, all part of the fun of making everything in house, by hand though I suppose. :science:

@ Yoshi - Nice setup there man.. that glass looks like it would be a good match for an UD. Let me know how that VVPS works out for you, those were the first ones we offered and after trying a few other options we might go back to them. They tend to be a little more accurate in their output voltage than the minis and are a bit more robust as well.

Just put 10-15 Pups into testing, they should be out and ready for a little mini-refresh sometime this coming week. Then I'll be putting some finishing touches on a few of those high-end Dogs I'd mentioned a while back. Should be calling them Purebreds lol? :peace:

Hi everyone! This is my first post and I'm ready to take the plunge into the world of vaporizers. After MUCH research I have decided to go with an Underdog for my first vape. After doing further research, I decided that I also want a water piece to go with it (to use for vape-bonging). Now my question is, if I were to get a water piece like this.....http://www.grasscity.com/us_en/bran...little-sista-3-2mm-45cm-ice.html#.UfVrRmS9Kc0 , what will I need to hook it up? Will the GonG that underdog sells fit into this?

I'm set on an Underdog (that's why I'm posting here) but I'm open to suggestions for a water pipe to go with my dog (preferably under $250 range). Can any of you that run your dogs in water give me a good recommendation? I plan on letting my dog play in the water from the start :p

It looks like ud has 14mm gongs available, so that would fit that roor you linked to(nice!), unless you pay $37 extra for the 18mm version, then you would need a 14/18 gong adapter bushing.

Here's some American made glass from a trusted company here on FC. This is a link to their straight tube; they make a beaker bottom style as well but it seems like it is out of stock at the moment. i'm sure if you sent them an email they would try to oblige.

I've been gone for the last 3 days on a little vacation, and had to leave the pup at home. I broke down and mingled with combustion a couple times. Couldn't be happier to be back at home with my pup.:luv:

Whenever I use other vapes, or god forbid combust. It really rejuvenates my love for my dog.:peace:'

Also I'd recommend that SSFG Travel tube posted above to anyone. It's a favorite between me and my friends and perfect for vapor. I'd definitely recommend upgrading to the shower-head diffuser if you can swing it.

Edit: Can't wait to see these purebreds

I gotta say, the nylon stems are my new fav.....Dave you gotta make some shorties for bong usage! I'm probably gunna cut mine down. Or maybe a stem set up similar to Allan 's SS nipple stems. Because I feel there is so much more heat distribution with these stems. And I can roast my load more on lower voltages. I'm at 12.4 and getting everything out of my herb. Glad you brought these back man :)

Thanks a lot. I looked around on their site and I decided that I'll go with this bubbler instead... http://ssfgglass.com/shop/product.php?id_product=106

It looks like it should pair up nicely with the 14mm male gong that UD sells.

Edit: Actually, not sure if I want that one. It doesn't look like it will stand up on its own. That straight tube you linked to looks nice though. Will I need the gong or Wong from UD for that one?

If you contact SSFG thru e-mail and let them know what you are willing to spend and an idea of what you want they will send you pics of what they have on hand. They do not update the site very often. They are very helpful and will most likely offer you a good price too!
