Recyclers - Discussion and Appreciation

Hey guys,

I (like I assume many other have ) have been lusting after a recycler ever since I first saw a Sovereignty recycler in a vid somewhere.

I'm curious, to anyone who's ever owned/used a recycler, are they worth it?

Short of being a spectacularly cool splash guard, do recyclers offer anything over a non-recycling piece?
Given the vapor itself doesn't recycle (at least in any vid I've seen), I can't see how it would

I'm also curious as to what recyclers people think are the best value?
Value being a subjective tradeoff between function, build quality, and cost...

VAPOLITICS!
So I own a few 'cyclers...:brow: And I'm totally addicted to them, as because of the high volume of water in the main can, the very little "dry glass space" (for 'claim deposit) & the perpetual motion of water will enhance the experience:

cooler hits
smoother hits
more flavorful hits

IMO this makes real sense with dabbing, though cyclers with flowers are very efficient too, just saying you' ll see less the subtle pro's of a 'cycler vs. a normal piece with flowers!

EDIT: BTW vapor does recycle, it comes out of the perc. in bubbles which travel through the connection tube (on 95% of recyclers= restriction), then those vapor bubbles burst in the second chamber (the one with the coriolis cyclone effect on a lot of 'cyclers). There the bubbles pop, you get the vapor in your inhale and water returns in the main chamber...

Thanks for the input so far guys :)

I was actually thinking about pulling the trigger on that delta-9 honeycomb cycler, which was what inspired this thread.

See, I wouldn't call that REcycling, since the vapor isn't going back through the main can for another go at diffusion.
Maybe that's just me being pedantic about the semantics?

In regards to the cooler, smoother, more flavourful hits, this interests me.
Generally, as diffusion increases, hits get cooler and smoother, but less flavourful.

Could you possibly explain how it gets better flavour while also still cooling/smoothing out the hit?
(I know we aren't gonna know for sure, but I'd like to hear any theories :science:)

I also totally get the less dry glass area part if it, but that could be replicated by a small non-recycling piece too couldn't it?

Like, imagine 2 pieces, with the same perc, same volume, same everything, except that one is a recycler, and one is just a regular bubbler, would the recycler be appreciably different( I.e. the recycler adds "something" to the piece)
Or would they be the same (which would mean that there's nothing special about recyclers per se, its just that in order to make a recycler work, it will end up having those desired characteristics...)

I own probably 10 recyclers, Hamm Waterworks (he claims he invented the recycler), Sheldon Black, Vertigo pillars, Mothership Torus, J-Red mini internal , Hoobs Piston bulb and the Delta9 honeycomb and I am not done.

Recyclers require much lighter slower hits for efficiency. Most do have a perc and some frets/honeycombs. The contact of the vape in the water is much longer and the stirring action freshens the water. That's my theory on why. The vape goes through the normal perc, then it must travel along with the water to the next level. This takes much longer especially went you draw lighter. The water is heavier and drops back down to the bottom. The vape travels to the mouth piece. Why not just return the water to the top instead of the bottom of water pool? ... because you want the water to "recycle" and be reused, but not until all other water travels the same way... cooler fresher water (plus recyclers requirer higher water levels). So its a water recycler, but not a vape recycler. No one ever said "Vape recycler" at least the blowers... Hamm seems to have the best description, but I can't seem to find it now.

I can compare to many other styles I own, David Goldstein Frets, High end Toro's, several Motherships, Dirty Rico's and Pulse multi honeycombs and I like my recyclers the best. All the things FLskwat stated are my experience also except for me the taste matches high perc frits which is a bit less taste.

My advice, grab a Delta9 honeycomb recycler. Just got mine for $150 shipped. Probably my cheapest dabber. Try it out. It works well and matches most of my recyclers for effect. A low cost entry level try, but it isn't cheap low quality in my book. See for yourself, at that cost you cost almost throw it away...

Thanks for the input :D

I never thought recyclers actually recycled the vapor (though I have seen others on FC say that they do), but that was why I was curious if they actually added anything to the hit.
My thinking was that if the vapor itself didn't recycle, the whole recycling setup was essentially a splash catcher...
I hadn't really factored in that the vapor spends more time in contact with the water while going up to the next level, I guess it's kinda a similar effect to a pillar perc, except there's only 1 "pillar"...

Anyways, not that I needed much convincing, but you guys have sold me, I'll definitely be pulling the trigger on a recycler sometime soon (funds are a bit tight ATM, just got the $500 eagle package )

I'd still appreciate any one elses opinions on recyclers, especially what they think is the best value recycler to be had :D

I recall reading a post by Colie Glass that you don't want too much diffusion at the perc, or the extra turbulence can stop the whirlpool effect of the recycling water, have you noticed that at all with the D-9 Honeycomb recycler?
They also have a non-honeycomb recycler, which looks to be Identical except for the lack of honeycomb.

Frederick,
Well, I double checked and yes with the extra perc of the honeycomb causes the water not to whirlpool in the funnel as much. The best one for that no doubt the Hamm Waterworks Supnik recycler - mine whirlpools awesome, but just has a jet inlet of the down tube. The Sheldon Black also is very good marks here. The Vertigo Pillar recyclers also whirlpool very nice, but they are multiple pillars on the way up. My little J-Red dabber recycle whirlpools awesome - no prec either.

That said, so what, it doesn't whirlpool :)
The designs I have - all of them, at that point the vapor has separated from the water. The only thing I think it could provide is slow water return and therefore maybe cooler. The honeycomb achieves the same effect, but w/o the whirlpool action.

For me don't notice much difference if it whirlpools or not, but if you want it too, less perc is better.

I would test drive a couple in a shop. For a safe bet with reasonable cost I would suggest Sheldon Black. His designs are very high tech. However, if you can afford $1000-$1200 the Hamm is the one IMHO followed by the Vertigo in my collection. The Mothership Torus recycler I have cost the most and it does not whirlpool much either, but it draws nice and its a weapon almost, like a small bat.

Keep in mind part of the overall draw of a "funnel" type recycler is the visual effect of the system and the whirlpool is the money shot. As far as a over the top perc and filtration where is clearly beats anything else, an educated user wouldn't have that take away really. Its the package and part of that is visual. Also in someways I find that true the major honeycombs or fret disks. Just looks cool, as to applying the same acid test - nope it doesn't pass either. In fact some really dislike it as over the top perc. I have not found an architecture that clearly pulls away yet if I close my eyes and ignore everything except the quality of the vape :) Have found some that are just clearly bad though...

VAPOLITICS!
So so,

I agree with 95% of what you said PhotoRider, the only thing I disagree with in fact is:
"except for me the taste matches high perc frits which is a bit less taste."

In fact I agree with flowers (I have owned several DG's) but not with dabs again. As IMO the fritts makes you loose a lot of a dab exhale vs. a cycler...
Frederick, I think we are not exactly adding diffusion nor percolation but perpetual motion to the water and better cooling properties with the recyclers. Everything is about how long the vapor stays "trapped in a bubble" and surrounded with water, and FOR THAT recyclers win mos'def! (you are definitely right with the pillar being already sort of a prehistorical internal recycler, my vertigo pillar recycler just goes a little further into the Coriolis "dry" chamber, and water comes back in a "circular-loop" motion vs. a simple pillar would be only" vertical motion")

About my favorite recyclers:

The Bates & Worm diffusion pump is definetly on the top of the list as it is very compact, the design is genius, the intenal glass funnel surrounded by so much water is a real cooling column...
BUT... I have since received a Mobius Watertrap and it is now my favorite piece. Enormous water volume though 0 drag and the first of my recyclers with a totally unrestricted connection bridge between both chambers...this beast can cope with massive hits and be tested by a dabnewb with absolutely NO throat stress!
I also am very fund of my Steve Beer recycler but I'm a Beer 's fanboy. This recycler can be hit as strong as you want with no splashes at all and no loss of efficiency and that's a BIG PRO!
Vertigo Pillar recycler is a beauty but is not the most functional of my 'cyclers!

;)

I just view recycler as just another perc type, probably the best-looking one. I like them, and will no doubt be getting a couple more as time goes on, but I don't see them as necessary or game changing. The majority of the designs I'm aware of are quite petite and dainty which means that they don't pair well with larger vapes (plus they're nearly all male GOG fittings for dabbing).

My synopsis: If you collect glass, collect you some! If you only want to own one piece, a recycler probably ain't it. Unless you're about the oil only.

Yes might have been too vague on that comparison. The tatse is different, but test over say my Cera. The Frits/honeycomb foaming does take them aa different direction. I point was recyclers do reduce the favor for me. over other vape pipes with less filtering.

OK - now I must checkout Bates/worm amd the Mobius water trap...

OK Is this the Bates/Worm diffusion pump you are refering to:

Or is it this one?

from your description I figure its the 2nd one. However, I love the looks of the first one :)

I just love the way they look and function...I like glassware that is scientific looking...something I can put on my desk as an interesting conversation piece as well as being functional. Would love to grab a Hamm recycler but it's out of my budget...Delta9 has a really nice looking one though.

Get the one w/o the honeycomb. The visual is better of the recycler. The honeycomb foams nice though.

As I said, a major part of the recycler is the visual.

If you guys wanna check out some sick recyclers look up earl jr on Facebook. He's got some new dual inline recyclers, some incyclers and incycler pendants too. Dudes badass!
Oh, very aware of Earl-Jr. I really want a Lion recycler :) There are so many. Bought another today, get it tomorrow. a fully worker large recycler from a local artist, Rad Glass. Its nice to know the owners of local glass shops in Portland as they let you know when they get something (or can get) special in your area of interest...
Recycler.jpg

I saw another specially worked recycler today, but it was over $3K. Sick one though. One of a kind piece. Friend sent me a cell vid:

Another interesting piece is a Blazemaster.

OK, took your advice on the Beer recycler. Don't have a Beer piece so I pulled the trigger on one of these. Its the Green Slime one which is one of the left two.
You better be right! LOL :D

and the other one I am really interested in is the Blazemaster double recycler. I asked Josh to make me one - only direction was - in your eye, not mine. I want people to ask me "who diid this?"...

Guess I like the worked stuff more. If I can get it anytime aka each piece is more or less the same I am less motivated I guess. My local shop is getting couple Mobuis WaterTrap which I'll check out, but I'm sure there is a line outside the door. I don't see those around much.

Haha you will have my twin beer slyme recycler as I have the one in the middle of the pix! ;-) Those mofos pack a punch!
Yes Blazemaster double cycler is pretty nice looking & I'll cross my fingers for your WaterTrap Quest!

Understood on the ergonomics, looks interesting though, but in the end I not a big fan of tall straight water pipes unless its really special.

OK - good to know on the Beer piece, didn't know which one so now I do :) I liked both of these and no green slime pipes yet. Slime seems to be in lately...

Oh, not serious on the watertrap yet. Want to check it out though and see in action. I could push the owner to let me have it since I just helped him make his best sales month ever, but not sure its worth a silver bullet. Have a limited amount of those :D

Got to love the new forum SW. The replies are great space savers...

100% agreed on tall straight , and I want either a very wide base or a smashed can design to limit the knock down chances!
And your Beer slimcler should be Tipen signed BTW! ;)

TIpen signed - all the better :) and 15% off :)
I love the looks of the piece and from your review I'm going to have an awesome performer too. Being Steve is in WA and I'm OR we are neighbors (so is BlazeGlass). That's my issue, too many good pipes locally to see... costly to ones budget. There are always pros and cons to anything :)
