School me on traveling with meds

Summer is here, and that means 11 weeks vacation for me. I'm planning a few trips; 2 to Atlanta, 1 to Vegas, and and 2 in-state trips to L.A.

Some airports have a solid reputation of being strict with the travel of MMJ, while others don't. I've looked online at airports' policy on medications and also the respective State's enforcement laws.

As far as Do's; there seems to be a consensus that you should NOT try to hide your meds. Put them in your carry on, and not your checked luggage. Also, have all your paperwork and perhaps call ahead. I travel often, not a lot, but I have never seen a drug sniffing dog/animal on domestic flights/terminals. Usually there are bomb sniffing dogs, so they will not alert to any of the meds that you may be carrying.

Are there any success stories or advice out there?

Hmm. I have never thought about it. But I live close to Atlanta, if you get caught with your meds its likely you will be arrested...
Often people around here are arrested just for simple possession (such as a joint) or paraphernelia. You could just as likely get a normal citation, its just all depending on how much of an asshole the cop would want to be.

Fack, they would arrest me?! Being from California, that scares the holy jeezus out of me. The trips to Vegas and L.A. will definitely have Meds accompanying me. The 2 trips to Atlanta, I may have to reconsider. Maybe only edibles for Georgia.

Someone I may or may not know has flown with meds from LA to Atl. He (or she) vacuum sealed some herb, and submerged the goodies in a new bottle of Head & Shoulders (opaque bluegreen color).

This is not a suggestion or recommendation, just an anecdotal tale.

Stu, sounds like a helluva process to go through. I would never do that personally.

Do you think someone in that situation would have the shampoo in carry-on, or have it in checked luggage?

You really Have to remember In lots of states your gonna go to jail no matter how much herb you have on you . Here in the south your more then likely going to spend a few hours in lock up with fines ,Drug classes , and a record for only paraphernelia . But I've known people who've gotten 6 months for a dirty glass bowl .

Just ship the goods to your new location everytime you move (this would obviously only work if you knew someone in the area, etc), but it would most likely be the safest way to move your stash and stuff around..

I would definitely not bring anything on the plane, unless it's super stashed somewhere really smell proof and very hidden.

good point elluzion, you could always ship it to your hotel ahead of time, if you call and let them know you are expecting a package they will hold it for you.

That person had a vacuum sealer in the kitchen anyway, so the process only took a few minutes. It was in the checked baggage.

Don't forget that crossing state lines with cannabis is a federal offense and we all know how the feds feel about cannabis, medical or not
Good points. Don't bother bringing your CA paperwork either. It is useless out of state.

Brilliant!! Never thought of doing that. I do have friends in ATL so that would work out. I'm packing my cheeba chews, just put that with a sandwich and call it breakfast, so I'm not expecting any drama from that.

Also, flying out of California will be easy, but it's landing in Georgia that I'm worried about. It's not like you have to go through security once you reach your destination, but you say there's no point in taking the risk?

Several people have reported success at certain airports. I can only speak for flying within California. Oakland, San Francisco, LAX, Long Beach, Pomona, etc.

Regardless of any success stories I personally would err on the side of caution and not risk it at all. Don't forget the TSA is a federal administration and any major airport (especially LAX) will at any time have several federal agents from several different nadministrations.

With all the technology in airports these days, I wouldn't recommend it...And NEVER for International travel...EVER.

*remembers "the old days" when you didn't have to worry about domestic air travel with herb* :myday:

All you had to do was walk through a metal detector. There were no "pat downs", you didn't have to pay for bags, you got an in flight meal, you didn't have to be at the airport 1 hour and 1/2 before a domestic flight, you actually got something we used to call "good service", flights weren't the cattle calls they are today, they're were almost no cases of "air rage" causing the pilot to return to the airport, etc, etc, etc. Ever since airline deregulation in 1978, the quality of airline travel has gone down the shitter.

But of course the best part was, as long as you kept the herb ON YOUR PERSON, you could fly domestically without a care in the world. Wake up America! This new policy of "search first and ask questions later" is yet another assault on the 4th Amendment.

Yes brother you could be arrested... Wow you Californians sure live in a different world !!! Everyone I talk to from California seems shocked at how much trouble you can get here in the southeast/east coast!! You must be lucky to not have any paranoia of police, trouble or anything

I have been arrested for JUST having rolling papers ! It eventually was dismissed after a year and going to court twice, needless to say it was not fun going to juvenile for a day (was under 18 at the time) !! I have had friends arrested for less than a half gram of herb!

I would not enter an airport with weed on me unless I was looking to see what the inside of a jail cell looks like. The medical cards mean nothing in other states.

Exactly...that sums it up

You might as well take a crayon and write on a paper you are a medical marijuana patient lol...

I know people who have driven drunk, crash their car, questioned by the police, and not gotten a DUI. This doesn't mean I will drive after drinking. Flying into ATL or Vegas for that matter is simply asking to go to jail. I wouldn't dare walk into an airport and go through a federal security check in my state and weed is legal here. For the majority of the country it is a schedule 1 drug and in many area that carries jail time. If you absolutely must have it when you travel make hash caps and mail them to a friend or to your hotel.

Even though its "legal" in my state I wouldn't even want it noted by a police officer in his notes that I had it. Not to mention BHO is still illegal, as well as the tools to make and consume it. I believe just making it a felony offense of condensing a schedule 1 drug.

Back from my Atlanta trip. Thought I'd report to FC...

Departed from SFO - San Francisco Int'l Airport
Arrived in ATL - Hartfield-Jackson Int'l Airport

What I had:
-4 Cheeba Chews (inside M&M's pckge)
-2 Jolli Pharmer's
-1 pack Day Dreamers
-1 Med cookie (consumed prior to flight)

edibles.jpg

To be honest, I was nervous azz hell. Mainly because I was with my girlfriend, and she didn't know I had them on me. While we got a ride to the airport from her coworker, I was in the back trying to figure out a plan.

I thought, if I get caught, I'll just tell them "it's to help me quit smoking," which isn't technically a lie. But I know from other's posts, that SFO is somewhat MMJ-friendly, so I wasn't going too crazy.

I finally decided to pack the Cheeba Chews in the M&M's bags, so they would melt a little, and look like clumped up, broken, candies. Everything else you see pictures, I just stashed in the front pocket of my laptop bag -- and crossed my fingers!!!

Not exactly the smart thing to do, but the bag went through security just fine. In fact, I got through the Cancer Scanner before the bags went through x-ray, and by doing that, I sneaked a peek at what the TSA agents were looking at, while bags were on the conveyor belt. On some scary shit, those guys can see everything!!! I guess it's just a matter of WHAT they're trained to look for, or if something just looks suspicious. But my bag was fine.

Now, coming back from ATL to SFO, I still had some Dreamers, and I figured I'd take the chance, because it just looks like your typical candy. So I wasn't as afraid on the second time around. And as you would have it, everything was fine.

Would I take the chance again? Only if I was traveling within California, and with edibles. Had this been flowers, I can't say if I would have gone through with it. That is too risky. I have too much at stake with that. I may have to take that as a loss...

Had a great time at the bachelor party and wedding, by the way...

Evidently things are different in Canada eh

Cool vid. You mentioned the Kush Cup, so does that mean you traveling from one place where it's legal, to another place where it's also legal?

Because that wasn't the case for me. It's legal in California but not in Georgia. Besides, I didn't have flowers; only edibles. In the beginning, I considered taking flowers, but changed my mind and avoided the unnecessary risk.
