So I'm a self-confessed news junkie. I watch a lot of it, but basically limit my sources to CNN and Fox. I'm also a self professed liberal democrat and the main reason that I tune into Fox is to get a bit of a different perspective on things........most of which I just laugh at, some of which I want to put my fist through the TV tube (Hannity gets me a bit upset) and sometimes, although rarely, they offer up a different perspective that makes me go................hmmmmm. :hmm: (but that doesn't happen often).

Two days ago, I tuned into a Russian news station called RT (Russia Today)....this is all through Dish Network. Never saw this before. They are obviously on a small budget, but their programming is done really well. It's a 24 hour news station, much like CNN and follows a similar format, mixed in with some pretty rough political commentary similar to Fox, but from a Russian perspective. VERY INTERESTING. They obviously put their own spin on things but it's really interesting to see how they frame things like what is happening in Syria along with the NSA spy revelations. It's a totally different perspective on things but again, after just getting spoon fed from the American press here in the States, be it from the left or the right or somewhere in the middle, it's really an eye-opener to see how "the other side" thinks and why they think what they think.

What's also interesting is that ALL of their journalists and talking heads speak English with a very deep English accent...........like they were all broadcasting from London.

If ya like your news, this is worth a tune in.

The last show I saw was a commentary on Bill Maher and they lumped him in with Colbert and Jon Stewart calling them all Democratic lackey's who do the bidding and are totally subservient to the Democratic Party. lol..... Can't wait to what their take is on Fox News.

Some of their stuff is really outrageous, but some of it will definitely make you go...........hmmmmm:hmm: And for me, anything that makes me go...:hmm:, and challenges my preconceptions, be it a news program, a movie, a book, a debate or a discussion, is definitely worth my time.

When I used to edit news, one of my favourite parts of the job, was access to all of the live streams from around the world. So with the touch of a button, I could call up anything from a camera scoping the desert to a female reporter joking around with her boobs off air.

Getting any kind of reliable feed out of Syria is tough right now and people are being murdered all over the place . . . the atrocities I am witnessing, the beheadings, the eating of human internal organs, its all very interesting. Why are we arming people that do these kinds of things?

One has to wonder if these kinds of things happen in ALL wars by ALL sides. There is soooo much that goes on in the fog of war that never gets reported and one can only imagine how it affects the psyche of ones mind, be they Syrians, Japanese, Amercicans, etc etc. It's no wonder that the suicide rates among our vets is such an issue. After killing another human being, and after witnessing your close friends being killed, you're whole perspective of right and wrong gets very distorted, especially when that killing of others is considered a "good" thing by those whose authority your respect.

I have no doubt that we too have committed such atrocities behind closed doors. The term, "War is Hell" is soooo sooooo true.

Hmmm.........so lets see, does anyone really wonder what kind of fact checking goes on BEFORE the news is broadcast and if newscasters are just talking heads who read the teleprompters without even knowing what in the hell they are reading?

This is for real folks...........not a parody.

So every once in awhile, I'll tune into RT (Russian News) to get their spin on what's going in the world (heavy propaganda going on here). Don't know if any of you have watched it, but they've hired these anchors and reporters that not only look and dress in a very westernized fashion but they all talk with a very deep English accent. I have no idea if they hired them directly from the BBC or if they put these people through extensive linguistic training so that they sound English, thereby helping to gain some credibility to their western audience that this news program is geared towards (it is not broadcast within Russia). If you didn't know that your were watching a Russian produced propaganda machine disguised as a news program, you'd think you were listening to the BBC, that is until this young, very pretty women reporter with a heavy English accent, reported on the fires in Yosemite Park and she pronounced Yosemite as Yo-so-mite.

Yo-so-mite? I was like.............huh? Until I figured out what in the hell she was reporting on. Too funny. :lmao:

I like the Onion's rendition:

Ya know, sometimes it's really difficult to tell the difference between The Onion and Fox and i'm not just talking about the pic above.

The really scary part though is that there is a very large segment of America who take everything that Fox says as the gospel and I have no doubt that there are many who, after seeing their cover story, are saying, "OMG, what did that Muslim who is running our country do to that poor girl?".

Thanks for the live feed, t-dub. All four of my grandparents were born and raised in Kiev. My parents were born here in the US, so I guess I'm a second generation US citizen.

It's said that we're more polarized here in the US than ever before, and not just politically, but it seems to be the situation world wide, eh?

You're welcome @lwien I know this is late but its interesting, and not quite settled yet. I think we will see more civil unrest worldwide.

Travelling/living abroad really drives it home how filtered/slanted our news is. Everyone else's as well, but differently to suit their own needs. You have to watch it all and look for truth in the middle somewhere. I typically bounce back and forth between cnn, bbc and al Jazeera. al Jazeera is good because they are usually more welcomed in places we would be shot.

I really got a good kick out of this thread, my hats off to our lwien for showing everyone on here RT.
I've been reading it on and off for the past year or so and i agree that it has some different viewpoints that other stations would chose to completely ignore.
I remember one day i found a article about the San Onofre Nuclear plant leaking radioactive steam, of course that article is no where to be found in our censored western news.
If you really want to spice up your reading one day check out naturalnews.com and let us know what ya think, ya?

Great story on the Girl Scouts.

Here's a few more that may get you smiling a bit but for a totally different reason.........from our good friends at Fox:

And the response:

And then this:

Too funny...........OMG, the GS are indoctrinating our young girls to become........................liberal. Run for the hills............lol
