PUFFiT portable

So I recently bought the puffit as my first vaporizer and I have a few questions. I know they've probably been answered sometime before but I can't go through 80 pages of history (sorry). I've been using it with friends, passing it around, but I think we're not using it to it's full potential. Basically, here's what I'm wondering:

Howdy,

FWIW I think you meant '...I don't want to read through 80 pages....' as I assume you actually can if you chose to? Ironically threads get longer for this exact reason, which is why it's covered in the ground rules we agreed to:
  • Lurk before posting. Please search and read before posting to see if your topic is already covered.
  • Read threads before posting in them. Thread rules may be outlined in the first post.
We of course also fill them up with trivial news like 'I just ordered' of little lasting value to anyone. Some of your questions, as well, belong elsewhere since they're general rather than device specific. The threads get all the more unwieldy with such misplaced but real concerns.

The basic problem I see here is while this guy is a questionalble choice as a first vape, it's definitley not a party vape. The battery and load size are 'all wrong' and the operation geared to a single user.....and an experienced one IMO. It's also not a good 'only vape' IMO, not that everyone shouldn't have a backup, it's just that a lot of compromises were made in it's design that might not make sense in many cases.

!: In general you want fine ground, dry herb packed in to the point it starts to interfere with the draw. Having more in helps with quantity related things and this is a conduction vape, solid contact with the walls is necessary to get good results as it's the only way to transfer heat to the load. How many grams (or fraction in this case) is too subjective to be useful IMO. Make what you've got dry, fine ground and snuggly packed for 'bigger clouds'.

First 3 (I assume you meant 2?): A personal choice, but I take a single fairly long (say 15 second) slow draw when the light changes. Nothing magic here, I think?

3: A widely discussed issue in the appropriate places.... There's some evidence that 5 or 10 seconds is plenty to get most of the effect, I think many of us are holdovers from blazing where other issues were going on that made 'holding the hit' more useful. I'd say the average is maybe a little longer, many of us are actually savoring the experience..... A better question for 'ask FC' perhaps as it's not model specific?

4. Longest battery life comes the way you're using it. Letting it cool between hits simply calls for addtional battery power to replace that heat before the next hit. There's not much battery in that tiny package anyway, my advice is don't waste it. Turn it on, use it, shut it down. Likewise, the decision to scrap the load when production drops off and use battery more effectively with a fresh load is a user judgement hard for another guy to make for you. I tend to not 'milk' the load with Puffit like I might with other vapes....FWIW.

5. What's best for you I don't know. I run mine about 4 IIRC, I'm in it for flavor and don't want to roast stuff. Higher temps get more out faster, add more of the 'heavy components' and eat the battery faster. Again, perhaps a topic for 'ask FC' as it comes up in many models.

Perhaps an insight into how it works might help? When you call for a hit, the heater comes on 'full blast' and heats to the temperature you select (higher temp needs more power and longer time), then power is cut and it starts to cool off. Serious power is only being drawn in the 'heat up to hit' phase.....the total power can be measured in seconds doing that.

Great advice OF ;)
Using the Spring thingy and using the same load of chopping board/coffee grinder material:
A 'load' for me i measured out at .2g - which as a low user i'd start off at half way between 4-5, and take hits, which was enough for me to feel medicated for a few hours. I'd then pop it on charge.

Next 2 sessions would also be at 4-5 and charge in between.

The next 2 would be at 6 and me last session would be at setting 8.

This kept me nicely medicated throughout my day - and maybe a friend or 2 along the way.

Now that's the way i used the Puffit - which suited my needs perfectly.

The 10 second pull, and then nose inhale as a shotty technique and holding it down between hits and only pushing the button again when i finished exhaling - worked a treat for where i wanted to be.

Hope thee find what works best for thee ;)

I'm hoping someone on here can give me some advice on my Puffit discreet Vape....It's very new and was working great for the first day I bought it....fully charged it and followed all instructions.
However, when I tried to use it yesterday, it doesn't do anything. When I pull the cap off, the red light stays on...doesn't blink for it to indicate that it's charging. Just stays red for a few min and goes off. I've tried plugging into my computer as well as a wall outlet thinking it just didn't have a full charge. However, that did not help.
Anybody got any suggestions?

I have a suggestion .
I suggest you do more research on FC , before making any more vape purchases .
and
Throw that POS in the garbage ! ( sorry for the strong language )

The Puffit is a DUD !
You would have found that out if you've read this thread .

I'm not sure I'm on board with that. I kinda like the little guy, despite my issues with the GD red/green lights us color blind folks can't use, the lack of expected stealth and so on. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.

The problems the OP cites are not at all common I think? He would not have 'been warned of them' by reading the entire thread.....both directions.

Unfortunately, I've no useful suggestions to address the problem (probably because it's not common?). I was hoping for a 'that happened to me and.....' post, still am I guess?

But I can't call it a dud, mine at least is a fun little gadget that does a good job at what it does IMO.

Just a thought, what happens when you do the battery check thing? Is it not recognizing the top cap being pressed (switch/debris issue)? Although that wouldn't explain the lack of charging....... It's not dead, I smell a stuck switch (there are 3).

It is expensive to me for what it is in either respect. I hope you get that ascent soon and it is what you wanted and needed.

Finally happened. As much as I loved this thing it crapped out 15 days out of warranty and GotVape and Discreet Vape are refusing to help. What a tragic racket.

Wow, bummer. 15 days past the deadline? Wonder how it knew that?

So, what's wrong with it? Is it hopeless?

I can't believe they are cutting me no slack on that I'm just barely past. Shame on both companies.

It's charging, then when I take it off the charger it won't turn on unless I toss it on the charger for 5 mins, then I can get a session but I need to repeat that before the next session. Still "works" but renders it pointless.

I don't know DV but do GV and it sounds par for the course. I'm sure they'll happily sell you a replacement?

Sounds to me like the battery has be run out? We all face that, I guess. Tell you what, if you want PM me and I'll tell you how to send it to me, I'll see if I can put a new one in it for you? Sooner or later I'll have to try it on mine, might as well mess yours up instead.......

I recall seeing the right battery somewhere, now to remember where......

Your call.

GV wanted $95 and DV wanted to sell me their new model. I'll probably file ripoff reports against both.

I may take you up on that, things are super busy here so it's not a major priority right now. Man if they could just charge me like $40 for a new battery that would be cool but they wouldn't go below $95.

Filed rip off reports against both companies which will come up when you google their respective names. It's shitty and a last resort, but hopefully that demonstrates to them that you need to stand by your product or people WILL be made aware that you don't.

I get it and all, but the rules were pretty clear up front. There's no question which side of the line it's on? While it's neat if they cut you some slack, I don't think it's really fair for others to pay for it? That's the way it works in capitalism....there are no free lunches. Entitlements have to be paid for by others.

I don't wish to seem harsh, but I honestly can see two sides to this.

No contest - as long as people understand the unit is not built to last and they will leave you high and dry.

UPDATE - Andrew from Discreet Vape has reached out to say if I mail the vape to Hong Kong, he will replace the battery and upgrade the firmware.

here you are sir tried it out yesterday I also have a review video that didn't go so well.

Thanks.

So the new model also uses that same GD red/green secret color coding that the original did so we color blind get left out again? I guess all that talk about looking for a better system for us over a year ago was just so much platitudes? I sure can't believe they couldn't figure out something if they really wanted to. I suggested several ideas, some software, some hardware. Something as simple as the little hole I drilled in mine to give a window that shows only one of the LED works OK but voids the warranty.

Hopefully it's easier to clean well? Does it still fill up with herb leaking down?

While the fan is fun, it also seems loud enough to be heard in quiet locations? I assume that's not a big deal since you can draw on it normally (without the fan)?

Thanks again. If they'd made an effort to address the color thing I might be interested in replacing mine, but........

yes same lights. but for someone who is color blind I feel like this could still work for them. its solid red click the button flashes red shortly which is heating then goes green which is ready to draw and the fan only works on green so you would know when it is okay to draw from. They probably wanted to do minor changes that didn't cost so much since they didn't take your advice into consideration. I have yet to clean it or try. the bowl is smaller than the first one which to me is a plus more efficient but it didn't really get messy.

im not sure what you mean by "fill up with herb leaking down" but no vape escapes from under the cap and no herbs come through for Scooby snacks (chunks in the mouth).

you can turn the fan down to a slow setting so it is quite I filmed the video before knowing that. so you could use like 1 to 3 in quiet locations. and yes you can draw on it normally but the forced air through a portable was sooo clutch. its like having an endless bag system in your hand!

im sorry man im sure you would have liked it but the color deal is not suitable for all.

Thanks. Good to know the fan can be quieter than that. Even with nobody to evesdrop, there are times it would be annoying. But if it doesn't restrict the normal draw, no big deal. The owner can decide.

One of the defects (IMO) on the original is the two slots for the tabs the cap presses against to know when it's being pushed down. Herb that misses the bowl can work down into the gaps and end up inside the unit. Not only adding smell but at least one guy had enough get in to foul the switch IIRC. It's just another known problem area that hopefully was addressed on the redesign? "New and Improved" being a bit subjective and all.

Thanks for the consolation. Yes, it would have been nice if they'd addressed it as they said........
