Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Aren't you making a big assumption? The last comment on that was on page 19- "the lock will be a small clasp on the outside of the unit which will decrease airflow a little as well as preventing you from cracking the hinge open the wrong way."

DV is good about posting when there's actually news to convey, so I'd say "completely reworking the casing" is just speculation based on a estimated release date. I'd speculate that a complete reworking of the case would set the release date a lot further away than August. Unless we hear something different from DV, you can assume that the lock will the same clasp already mentioned. Whether it looks good or not will be subjective, and since we haven't seen it yet, it's not fair to even state your opinion that it wouldn't look good.

I guess I need to work on my communication skills, since you have totally misunderstood the intent of my post.

By "completely reworking the casing" I meant that they probably are redoing the casing so that the clasp has an integrated look instead of a looking like an afterthought. And I never said the clasp wouldn't look good, what I said was that a clasp that looks like an afterthought against the nice rounded lines wouldn't look good. I'm sure that Organicix wants the Ascent to look good, and so are taking the time to rework the case so that everything looks well put together instead of having a clasp that looks like an afterthought.

In quoting my post you left out "which I think is a good thing" which is the part of my statement that I hoped would convey my feeling that DaVinci is doing the right thing by taking their time to get it right and keep the Ascent looking good. My opinion about magnets at the end was just thrown in as wishful thinking. Maybe for the Ascent 2.0? :D

To reiterate, it is not my opinion that the clasp WILL not look good. I feel that if done improperly, the clasp MIGHT not look good. I feel that IF DV rushed out a slapped-on clasp to pacify the howling hordes, it would most likely not look good. Since DV appears to be taking their time, which I think is a good thing, the likelihood is that the clasp will look just fine.

I'm one of the early pre-registrants and I'm just as anxious as anyone else to see the Ascent released, but I haven't made a single post complaining about DV's methods or delays. I'm a patient dude, and I look forward to getting the Ascent whenever DV deems it ready for release.

You're still taking a big leap by assuming that they're going to do anything to the design other than what they've stated. There is zero evidence that they're "completely reworking the casing". It's pure speculation on your part and really does verge on expressing opinion as fact. Let's not confuse things with guesswork.

I agree. Unfortunately even a 'simple change' like adding a latch or tab can call for making new tooling, often expensive and time consuming. And it can be an even bigger issue if a lot of parts have been made in anticipation of not having a problem. Scrapping a bunch of parts is not a good thing at many levels.

For whatever reason, they're delaying the project at great cost to them, they no doubt think it's justified.

Well, I tried to explain what I meant by saying "completely reworking the casing" as opposed to just adding on a clasp without concern for integration into the overall design, at least as I understood it. I guess you and I just have different interpretations. And what's so wrong about speculation if I'm not complaining or putting anyone down?

I just don't get why my post warrants such a strong reaction from you. I have no desire to argue over semantics with a moderator, so I'm done posting about posts. I apologize if my speculation and choice of words was out of line.

I hope that the clasp would be more integrated into the design as well(not that it'll be a deal-breaker if it isn't). It would seem out of place if it wasn't. Considering all of the work going into the rest of the of the concept; I'm sure DV will figure out a way to have to clip added but still have that sleek form-factor we all crave. :mmmm:

if they mad such a big deal because the "+" and "-" buttons were not flush with the body, i am going to assume they will do something with the clasp

better be perfect when it comes out! im nit picky down to the very detail so I'm glad is it going to be refined before I truly retire this vapir 3.0 one

Question for the more experienced vaporents out there. Will the "vapor seal" they are working on for the ascent create a similar 'milkshake' draw of the solo? Which would make this change purely aesthetic as some people like to see a lot of vapor from their devices. If not, I am not quite understanding what the function of the seal will be, could you elaborate?

Please explain the function of an upgrade that hasn't happened? Tall order, IMO, even if we knew all the details (which I'm pretty sure we don't). Once it's finalized, I expect DV will be anxious to get the word out.

I did cover the bottom grill when hitting it last time and was still able to get a decent hit, so maybe the better seal will be a considerable improvement...we will see.

Interesting. I'd understood the seal to be around the door, which is above the bowl, right? That is not in the area you suggest? Somehow air from elsewhere than that grill getting in somehow? Not necessarily a bad thing I guess if vapor is coming out......

Thanks for the background.

Anyone think its better then the PAX ?
Depends on what you mean by 'better'...what are you looking for in a vape?
IMO the areas the pax beats the ascent (DEMO UNIT ONLY) are
Size
Battery Life
Odor emission (flowers not electrical)
...if none of those 3 are deal breakers, the ascent is DEFINITELY the vape for YOU! (Its fucking awesome)

what I hated in the pax was the restricted airflow there was too much draw resistance, is it the same in the ascent ?

No draw resistance at all, I never minded the resistance on the pax until after the ascent...I wouldnt say I hate the draw resistance of the pax...but it is a little annoying after using the ascent for a while
And IMO I think thats the reason the ascent smells a little more than other vapes

I don't understand how the Pax with one battery could have better battery life than the Ascent with two. Also, in my admittedly limited exposure to the Ascent, I detected no odour whatsoever. The Pax is easily the smelliest of all the vapes I own or have used.

Im not a battery expert by any means... all I know is when I use my pax off a full charge it last all day (nemerous sessions)
And with the ascent I have to charge it a couple times a day (?) Maybe it has to do with all the features it has...
As far as smell idk if its just my 'blend' but i used it BEFORE I got on a busy train and when I got on people were commenting on how good I smelled and some kids asked me if I had some and told me they smelled it as soon as I boarded (glad there were no cops)
I know there is more smell at higher temps, but I was only at 375...I never had this happen with the pax on low (370)
IMO I believe its all due to the hole in the bottom of the bowl

This is very useful to know. And thank you for being the only one to answer the question we all get yelled at for asking.

So you are saing the batteries of the Ascent die quicker than the one in the Pax?

That's a huge bummer for me, I expected the Ascent to have better batt life than the Pax.

Dafni,
So if we're looking at late August now, it seems as if they are completely reworking the casing, which I think is a good thing. Just slapping on a clasp that is obviously an afterthought wouldn't look good on a vape like this. I was wondering what it would look like and how they would deal with breaking up the nice rounded design lines...

If they really are redesigning the outer casing, I'd love to see a magnet system like they use on the latest DaVinci. And they could solve the hinge problem with a small integrated lip on one side to prevent swinging the bowl open the wrong way.

Magnets are cool! :science:

there not redesigning the outer casing there just adding a silicone sleeve on the draw stem

If the capacity was really that much lower it would really suck :( I don't want that to be true:
My guess would be that the glass lining of the bowl needs that extra bit of energy combined with this air leak issue. But at the end of the day you only have to compare the size of both vapes to see that the capacity of the Ascent should be at least twice as large as the capacity of the Pax, if both use comparable batteries.
This is another very interesting point which would give us a more direct comparison between the Ascent and Solo (the latter being the king of portable vapes imho as of today). Has anyone of the previewers had the guts to disassemble the Ascent yet?
The battery of the Solo is: Li-Ion 18650 7.4v 2200 Mah (from Vaporpedia).

nooo im not talking bout the sleeve on the exterior of the glass parts but one on the draw stem where it meets with the internal stem

The air leak was coming from the bowl to airpath connection. The glass to glsss conection is not the issue since air being pulled in from that gap would be vaped. It's the part that swings that is allowing the fresh air into the vapor path. That's why DV is going with some sort of clasp. I'd love to see some pictures of the clasp's design.

You know, that's exactly what I thought might become a weak spot in the vaporpath when I first saw pics of an ascent... was curious to see how they solve that on an "all-glass" vaporpath
