don't use PVC!!!! :o
Any tubing that's food grade, even PVC, is fine for vape tubing.
I could not disagree more. You trust the FDA to provide quality health info? Suck on this food-grade material: http://www.chej.org/BESAFE/pvc/pvcreports.htm

PVC that is intended to dispense cold Mountain Dew is inappropriate for hot vapor. Why compromise? $1 / foot for 100% silicone is a small investment for your health!

Oh, that plastic smell and taste, that's PVC off-gassing. The FDA says it's OK (now pass me the Vioxx).

i recently ordered these from McMaster Carr:

and
http://www.mcmaster.com/#51135k35/=83s3lq

i went with white and black to try something different. what i dont like is how the finish on this tubing isnt smooth like the 7th floor tubing. its kinda rubbery and has a sticky quality that sticks to lint and hair. im going to try to wash the hose in hot soapy water to see what happens to the stickyness...

i think the black tubing will look great with my black DBV

That's what you get with silicone. You gain in the taste dept., and lose in the tactile dept.

7th floor has told me they use "food grade polyvinyl that doesn't have any skin oils". also they offer it in colors, but do not mention this on the website.

tygon tubing

Hi all. I'm looking for some tygon tubing to replace the stock tubing on my extreme. I use my bong and the stock tubing is just too stiff for the short length my preferred set-up requires (about 13").

Does anyone know of any sources that are either located in Canada or ship to Canada? I used the search function but only came up with the general vaporizer-specific threads.

unzari,
hi try scroogle.org & find tygon minus cookies, i have heard that us plastics can supply u or if med silicon tubin is almost as good as tygon fc sponsor vaporstore.com ships foot or mor:)cheers

Safety of whip materials

Hey all.

I am just looking for some more flexible tubing for my extreme q whip. What materials are safe to use? I got some 3/8" nylon tubing from a hardware store but I doubt its safety. Please let me know if this ok, or alternatively where or what I should purchase?

Just make sure it's at least food grade tubing. The temp range that tubing is exposed to, especially when using a thick glass wand, is not high at all. A lot of people like silicone tubing, but it's mostly for the improved taste, and it can be pretty expensive. 7th Floor (SSV site) has a good price on tubing if you buy 10-20 ft. It's a size larger than standard, at 3/8" inner diameter, and 1/2" OD. Very flexible too. I remember the Arizer tubing as quite stiff.

US Plastic has a good selection, and the Silcon brand of silicone tubing has a great price.

The label said it was safe to use in ice makers and steam operations, so that was why I was curious if it was safe. It is however made of nylon, not silicon...

I tried to get the 7th floor tubing from some local headshops, but it only comes with the wand as well, which seems like an expensive waste ($40) since I can't use the wand with my Q.

I guess the general idea is look online?

I use the 7th floor tubing with my Q.
Big improvement.
Just buy 20 ft from 7th floor

In general, local shops aren't going to carry much of anything but the basic vape kits. If you want the 7th Floor tubing at a good price, you'll have to buy it here- http://silversurfervap.com/accessories/surfer-accessories/replacement-hose-3.html - 20' is less than $.75/ft. This tubing is not silicone.

Slicon brand tubing is also a good price at .92/ft - http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=36289&catid=799&clickid=searchresults - standard 1/4", 3/8" size is even cheaper. Silicone tubing is better for taste/odor, but it does attract trash from pretty much everything it contacts-kind of a tacky surface.

Tubing Health Safety

I bought a used Extreme Q that did not come with the tubing that the original item had. I went to Lowe's and just bought tubing that fit without even consider what it was made out of. I noticed that this tube was not as flexible as the tubing that came with my SSV, which I imagine would be made of the same material as the original Extreme Q tube that I did not receive. I bought this tubing at Lowe's: http://www.lowes.com/pd_16813-104-S...ng&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=vinyl+tubing

Is this tubing safe to use even at the temperatures of vaporizers?

that page says: Maximum operating temperature 125 degrees F.

you can supposedly buy silicone tubing at home depot; its working temp is in the 400F range. i've been happy with the 3/8 ID silicone tubing from amazon.

Make sure tubing is food grade. Silicone tubing will have a much higher temp ceiling, but it's really not needed for safety. Most like silicone for taste improvement.

Temps are quite low, vs. vaping temp, once the air reaches tubing. I will say that the Extreme tubing gets warmer than with the other direct draw vapes I've used. It was a little stiff as well.

Stock Extreme tubing, Boiling safety

Hi guys,

I've got a question. A friend would like to know whether she can boil her stock extreme tubing safely to clean it and harvest the oil.

Can anyone help her?

Thanks!

i wouldnt recommend boiling vape tubing.

when i clean my tubing in my ssv i tie some floss or thin rope around the bottom of a screw. (tie it around the bottom of the screw, not the screw head) make sure that the screw you use has a large enough head on it to make contact with the inside of the tubing. you want it to be a tight fit but not too tight that you cant move it and not too loose or it wont work. then i just feed the string through the tubing and pull the string at the other end. do this a few times and most if not all of the stuff will be pulled out and get stuck to the screw head. collect that goodness and vape/smoke it.

;)

Is my tubing still safe to use?

So I decided it was time to make all my equipment sparkle and I embarked on the cleaning process...while cleaning the whip for my extreme Q I ran out of ISO. In my haste I thought I would just use some nail polish remover and salt (never again). After swishing it around and clearing out some resin I flushed it with hot water for at least 5 minutes.

My whip still had a faint chemical smell so I put it in some boiling water for 10 minutes. Now that I have taken it out I notice that the tubing is significantly less see-through, and I still think I can detect the smell (although I may also just be putting this thought into my head). Basically in your opinion do you think this whip is still safe to use?

I plan on ordering more tubing soon, but I want to know if it is safe to use in the meantime.

Thanks!!

Better safe then sorry, order new tubing, make sure its the right kind, and food grade! Get like 20 feet of it so that you have enough to replace it at least a few times.
