Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I am really excited to get this vape. Does anyone on here have one yet? The Pax I own is nice but I am really tired of needing to clean it so often for it to even turn on. Wow is it frustrating. I am hoping this is a nice addition to my collection and can make it 3 days without cleaning (life is good if that's my biggest "problem"). I have to prepare myself though for all of the "Why are you sucking on a Norelco electric razor?" questions from friends. Anyone else feel like that about the design?

Also, I am excited about a nice open airway on the Ascent. I simply run out of breath while vaping the Pax and walking up hills.

I hope I am on topic and not posting in the wrong thread or something like that. This fc forum seems pretty particular.

Zomger:
Please do share when you get a response from DV. That was exactly what I wanted to know.

I just emailed them (closed Saturday) with your question. Somehow I think the Warranty omission was an oversight, as they do feature the Warranty information for the original Davinci portable. I beleive they've been around since at least 2010. Good luck;)

I now see on posts above, that which I hadn't considered: is the warranty info provided in the Description of the product section really a sign that the dealer is a registered reseller. You're right...CALL DV!

T.Mas welcome to the thread. To answer one of your questions, we do have some veterans of the forums who currently are in ownership of the ascent. Their reviews thus far seem quite positive, another reason to be excited for this devices release. I would suggest taking the time when you find it to read this thread, as it is only 23 pages and there is some good information on the device here.
Your cleaning question is more difficult to answer as I don't have an ascent yet and there is information on cleaning procedures but none really for how often it should or needs to be done. If I had to take a guess I would say it needs a bit more maintenance than the original, which I clean mine on a weekly bases (everyday use,) not because it needs to be cleaned that often but because it's easier to keep clean that way. But far less maintenance than the Pax. If anyone with a ascent could confirm I'd be very interested to know this as well. Keeping in mind it's not about the period of how long till it needs cleaning but really how many uses before it needs a good cleaning.

But I don't really know anywhere you can buy something like this that doesn't list a warranty when there really is one
I've had to contact this or that dealer in the past to confirm warranty. I've also seen dealers list incorrect warranty periods in the past, usually when a manuf. changes the coverage and the dealer doesn't get the info or fails to update their site.

VaporStore doesn't list a warranty for the VapeXhale Cloud, but they're definitely authorized to sell it, and you will get coverage if you buy it from them.

If a dealer lists a product and isn't authorized to sell it, they're still most likely going to list the warranty terms if they're smart. Stating the manuf. warranty along with the product features isn't saying you'll get coverage if you buy from them. They're just stating the warranty period. If the seller states 'we are an authorized dealer for this product', then that's different.

It's always the buyer's responsibility to determine warranty coverage, as far as where you can buy and still be covered. Some vape makers care where you buy and others don't. It's not the way it should be, but it's the way it is.

Another good point, Max.
I think what we can take away from this is, it never hurts to ask, but when it comes to assuming you can get burned.

zomger,

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
I've dealt with EZVapes.com a couple of times, including one warranty issue. Before the issue was cleared up they let me know that even if the manufacturer wouldn't cover it (even though they are an Authorized Distributor) that EZVapes would make it good.
I expect you'll find that to be their answer when you get through to them.

Vape 4 LIFE
Your right sleepy head...the tase does deteriorate alot faster on high, it does so in all vapes on high...but a little faster in the pax, the taste catagory is clearly won by the ascent...I even find myself enjoying the taste of reheated bowls more
CDUB73 do you still have your ORIGINAL mothpeice? Ifso you should call them and have them send you a new one (they changed the design), I have 2 (they sent me one free) and life is great
The ascent will have a 0% chance of mouthpeice sticking so that is something to look forward to...I guess im lucky though to have a relatively issue free pax and I love it for what it is, the ascent does fill in the gaps with what I feel was missing and always desired BUT it does have its own set of issues mainly the smell
Thanks for the feedback WakeNVape. I'll give that a try.

My original reason for posting was simply to say that I am happy to wait for a completed product. The ascent appears to be what I have been looking for in a vape. Sorry to get so side tracked..

Is the delay due to the vapor seal considered an improvement (similar to the buttons) or a fix to an issue the unit has?

I believe its an improvement. The ones with the pre release units said it was fine they way they got it and they would still buy it without the reworked vapor seal.

It wasn't that hard to find.

"We are happy to update you with the latest launch info of the Ascent Vaporizer by Da Vinci. After extensive testing and feedback from industry experts, we have identified an improvement we wish to bring forth on this initial release. The Ascent vaporizer will now feature a "vapor seal lock" that tightens the air seal around the bowl and allow the chamber to aspirate with greater vapor density."

Interesting they are just sharing this on facebook, thought this was established here days ago?

I would love to see a diagram or actual photo of the new "vapor seal lock" around the bowl, and how well it mates with the glass. What material is used to accomplish this? I'm thinking that this improvement will make us lower temp vapor's very happy! I'm also thinking that at lower temps, a slightly slower more delicate draw will make the most of it:clap:!

Give some trusted online sellers a call. I would think that if DV were soon to distribute, the authorized dot coms should be the first to know, with some idea as to their initial receipt of shipment and that which follows. I personally chose to (pre-) order an Ascent just the other day in order to stay ahead of a possible back-order situation soon after release. I was also able to get a 15% discount w/free USPS Priority shipping w/2 bonus items. Dealt with them before and they make it all good!

"We are now taking preorders. Ascent has delayed shipment of the primary batch of units to ensure highest quality. Pre-orders will be shipped out latest 15th of August (previously announced date was 15th of July). "

So this thing is clearly still in development - what's this thread doing in the portable vape section? Shouldn't it be moved back to 'Thread Candidates'?

People looking up FC for reviews on vaporizers would expect to find only vaporizers that have actually been released on the market in this part of FC. I think it will only cause even more irritation for all the newbies joining the discussion now to find that they're also lured into waiting for the Ascent, which in return will lead to more bad rep for Davinci. As it is, it looks a bit like advertising gone wrong.

So if we're looking at late August now, it seems as if they are completely reworking the casing, which I think is a good thing. Just slapping on a clasp that is obviously an afterthought wouldn't look good on a vape like this. I was wondering what it would look like and how they would deal with breaking up the nice rounded design lines...

If they really are redesigning the outer casing, I'd love to see a magnet system like they use on the latest DaVinci. And they could solve the hinge problem with a small integrated lip on one side to prevent swinging the bowl open the wrong way.

Magnets are cool! :science:

Aren't you making a big assumption? The last comment on that was on page 19- "the lock will be a small clasp on the outside of the unit which will decrease airflow a little as well as preventing you from cracking the hinge open the wrong way."

DV is good about posting when there's actually news to convey, so I'd say "completely reworking the casing" is just speculation based on a estimated release date. I'd speculate that a complete reworking of the case would set the release date a lot further away than August. Unless we hear something different from DV, you can assume that the lock will the same clasp already mentioned. Whether it looks good or not will be subjective, and since we haven't seen it yet, it's not fair to even state your opinion that it wouldn't look good.

Wow, thanks for the advice I didn't think about moving onto another vape...:hmm:

Funny, I didn't take it as advice but a request? I don't think you were asking for advice (could be wrong of course) but I second the request. Your giving 'them' advice how to run their business is, IMO, not a useful contribution.....I seriously doubt they're taking it to heart, aren't you?

I don't think they set out to deceive or 'hype' anyone, do you really? They want to sell as many as fast as they can make them.....if they're solid. I think they paid a lot of money for tooling to make the cases expecting them to work well and found out through Beta Testing that there were a couple of issues. Not only leaks, but did anyone else notice they mention changes so it can't be opened 'backwards'? I smell someone getting confused and breaking the rascal off by pushing too hard the wrong way. They may feel they have to correct that possibility despite the leak issue. This means new tools to make new cases most likely, a considerable delay as you'd know if you've ever been involved in such things.

While I generally believe Beta Testing should be done 'low key' and every attempt made to keep from 'washing the laundry in public' we, the little kids we are at heart, can't get past 'are we there yet?'.

It's a tough call, with risks and pressures both ways. It usually comes down to a management call, unfortunately IMO all too often dominated by Sales and not Engineering.

In the end, the guys counting the chickens before they're hatched are us, not them. They honestly give their best case estimates, we are the one that turn that into expectations and get all bent out of shape when those plans don't work out. We set ourselves up by ignoring the risks of delay we know are really there, then don't want to cop to it so we try to blame Bush.....

If it's gonna be late August then that's fine. I can wait another month to buy my first portable vape but GOD DAMNIT it better be available in late August because my mind is so dead-set on this thing. I have such high hopes for the Ascent which is why I've held off on buying a Pax or Solo. I need to vape on the go!!!! Everybody needs a mobile vape these days just like they need a mobile phone. It's a necessity.
