Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Since Davinci hasn't commented on this vapor seal yet: there seem to be two possibilities for this vapor seal.
1) a cap that covers the bottom grill
2) rubber band that fits around the slit (connection between bottom part and top part of the Ascent)

@ Reviewers:
Could you try to emulate this by using materials of your choice and give it a try? Maybe you could cover the grill and/or slit with a cotton pad and then cover the cotton with aluminium foil to make it air-tight. And then record a video of the vapor production.
Because for some people (personally I don't care), dense clouds seem to be important and this would give us all a quick preview on the "improvement" Davinci seems to be working on.

I don't quite get this cloud argument. This seems to be something coming mostly from people who were into joints/bongs before. I hardly touched cannabis before vaporizers were born, so to me cloud production isn't really important. But apparently dense clouds look a bit like smoke and maybe people associate smoke with getting high. Or maybe they just enjoy the visual aspect.

Cloud density/volume should be determined by the following: temperature, bowl volume, amount of material used, how air-tight the bowl is and how much clean air is mixed up with the vapor when it leaves the mouthpiece. Then it also heavily depends on the environment (lighting, temperatures) in which you're vaporizing.

In the case of the Ascent all of the above (except air-tightness) are already fixed, so with this last improvement it should produce fairly thick clouds like the Solo. Even more so, because it uses more conduction than the Solo. If it doesn't, then maybe the temperature reading isn't correct or it simply doesn't reach 420+ F. Which would be kind of sad because I don't just want to get high, I want to get stoned, too and for that you need the higher temperatures.

DV addressed what the vapor seal would be, and I think the main point was to get better clouds with lower temps too, this thing definitely gets to 430° though and it will produce big/thick clouds...but I dont like to vape that high to often, I like starting in the 375 range because I enjoy the taste of my flowers.
I do also think people associate visible vapor with the power/effectivness of a vape, for me personally...I can tell if I am getting vapor when im drawing slow and I can feel a stream of slightly warm air on the tip of my tongue

Actually they did comment on the seal, and it doesn't sound quite like either possibility you mentioned.

From DaVinci (somewhere on page 19 I think):

"For those that asked, the lock will be a small clasp on the outside of the unit which will decrease airflow a little as well as preventing you from cracking the hinge open the wrong way. It will in no way compromise the vapor path."

I don't know if anyone here is following DV on twitter, but they posted a deal on Yelp for a discount toward anything on their website. You pay $50.00 now and you receive $75.00 voucher. I just picked one up and just wanted to give anyone else a heads up if they wanted to do the same. Saved $25 off the ascent!

.... well when it's released of course.

Would we be able to use the voucher + use whatever code they give us for the "free" glass attachment I wonder?

Haha I looked it is only 1 voucher per person. ... That would have been nice though!

Oh here is the link if anyone wanted it, I forgot to include it from the last post.

I was wondering about that also. I think for the users that pre-registered early might want to wait and ask DV to see what they say first before getting this voucher; just in case when you order the ascent they might only accept one code.
I pre-registered late (around may) so I doubt that I would even get the pre-registration gift due to them not having enough to go around. I think I read somewhere in here that the ascent pre-registration gifts were only available for a certain number of people that pre-registered early. So I just jumped on this deal instead. If I do get a gift code then I will probably just give it to one of the FC members here, because I won't be able to use it. Haha.

I'm in the same boat, registered but don't think I was early enough. Thanks for sharing the deal!

I bought the voucher anyhow. I'm not concerned about the free gift as much as saving money.

It has been great to follow all the reviews! I'm even more excited now than ever before to own this revolutionary vape. It's very refreshing to know the folks at Organicx are waiting to get this right the first time. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was with the Pax. I'm still fighting to keep it clean after every use. Fortunately, I still have my trusty I-torch. I never hear much about the I-torch, but the battery life is worth about (12) 10 minute sessions. The problem is that the air path is all aluminum and stainless steel. I am so looking forward to the all glass pathway!

I apologize for more speculation, but is it a stretch to say that Davinci may be rolling the ascent out on July 2nd when the current promotion for the older model ends?

I hate to break it to you...if you think the PAX (LOL) is hard to clean, the ascent is just as easy ::cough::cough::...I mean hard to clean
All the pax takes to clean is an iso soak of the mouthpeice and screen and a pipe cleaner for the vapor-path and oven (which I do/did once a week with heave use, I barley even use the lube)
To clean the ascent all you have to do is iso soak the 2 glass peices and use a q-tip for the bowl (which I havent had to do yet with one week of heavy use, but it is almost time)

Careful, the man said 'keep it clean' not 'make it clean'. Big difference IMO.

Many vapes 'get dirty (tasing)' real quickly. Others, like say Solo, can have junk build up to an amazing degree without other issues.....in fact to the owners delight.

I'm not sure he was making that destruction, but I am. Some vapes are easier to keep in a good (clean tasting) condition than others. IMO this is a useful aspect to know about.

I've seen but never used a Pax and of course never done either to the Ascent, but seems to me that Pax didn't earn is reputation for taste issues casually? From everything I've read owners either fight keeping it clean for fresh taste....or have given up? Not having to be so aggressive about that would be a big plus IMO.

I agree with you that there is a difference, but it is minute, to 'keep' anything clean requires constant attention (ascent included).
Maybe im just missing something though, because the pax was/is my favorite vaporizer for a long time and I have had no issues with taste or quality/density of vapor EVER...never noticed a dirty taste ::shrugs:: the only reason I ever have to clean the pax is for mouthpeice performance...maybe I just got my pax from a really good batch??? My main complaint is its greedy as hell, but before that I used a mflb so thats a given
On the other hand while glass resin is welcomed, I think it will be a must to 'keep' the ascent clean because it emits a really 'good' smell, that might be necessary for undetectable storage
All in all both vapes have an advantage to 'keep' clean and if you have to 'make it' clean, both are equally challenging or un-challenging (imo) s**t...just thinking how hard it was to clean my bowls/bongs to a spotless state makes my head hurt now
On a side note I would like to try the solo, given all the hype I have been hearing about it

Another option for a discount on the Ascent, once resellers have it to sell - http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/retailer-discussion-discounts.1802/

I forfeit my pre-registration status with DV after speaking with them on the phone concerning any discount they might give towards the Ascent (no discount). So I went to my go-to online retailer EZVapes.com and saw this "HURRY AND GET 15% OFF ANY OIL OR WAX VAPORIZER WITH CODE "OIL15" AT CHECKOUT!" Yes! They gladly applied their offer to the Ascent, along with their usual super Express mail service FREE and 2 bonus gifts. They've been good to me, and they're very responsive: chat, email, phone.

Without starting a rant here, the following is my opinion with regards to the Pax:
The mouthpiece is soaked regularly and I still have sticking problems. A pipe cleaner is not doing the trick. Sometimes I cannot even find the "sweet spot" ( mouthpiece position) to turn the Pax on. I have to open and close repeatedly to find the sweet spot. I have been diligent with regards to cleaning daily.
More importantly the flavor is not what I consider tastey. I have a volcano for home use and the I-torch for portability and the Pax doesn't come close except maybe on the first 2 drags. The only point I was making is Pax released too early and I was the unfortunate customer who purchased right away. My understanding is Pax had many complaints and returns in the first couple batches. I do not live in area where I felt comfortable sending the unit back, so I had to eat it.

mod note: Unlike the post you're quoting, yours is 100% off topic. Let's get off the detour and back on the main drag.

That's a pretty good deal for the ascent. Best I've seen yet. ~$37 off for a total of ~$212.. What worries me is they don't mention any kind of warranty on their ascent page.. Does anyone know if EZVapes is a registered re-seller for DaVinci?

Your right sleepy head...the tase does deteriorate alot faster on high, it does so in all vapes on high...but a little faster in the pax, the taste catagory is clearly won by the ascent...I even find myself enjoying the taste of reheated bowls more
CDUB73 do you still have your ORIGINAL mothpeice? Ifso you should call them and have them send you a new one (they changed the design), I have 2 (they sent me one free) and life is great
The ascent will have a 0% chance of mouthpeice sticking so that is something to look forward to...I guess im lucky though to have a relatively issue free pax and I love it for what it is, the ascent does fill in the gaps with what I feel was missing and always desired BUT it does have its own set of issues mainly the smell

If they did list the warranty, it still wouldn't guarantee that they're authorized. Any seller, including eBay'ers, can list a warranty period. I suggest you contact DV.

Distributors. There were unauthorized DaVinci's listed on Amazon within weeks of its release. It happens with most brands/models. You need to check with each and every manufacturer to see what their warranty policy is. Some don't care where you buy and some do. DV does care.

Thanks Max, I was aware that some distributors are very sneaky and will post warranties for items that aren't backed by the companies. I've been burned like this before. But I don't really know anywhere you can buy something like this that doesn't list a warranty when there really is one.. Not sure why you wouldn't want to mention that on such an expensive item. At any rate I sent DaVinci a message and am awaiting their response, thanks. I'll let you guys know when i get a response.
