Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

This was just posted to their FB Page
We are happy to update you with the latest launch info of the Ascent Vaporizer by Da Vinci. After extensive testing and feedback from industry experts, we have identified an improvement we wish to bring forth on this initial release. The Ascent vaporizer will now feature a "vapor seal lock" that tightens the air seal around the bowl and allow the chamber to aspirate with greater vapor density.

We want you to know our commitment to building the ultimate vaporizer is at the forefront of our mission. We are confident that these improvements will continue to raise the bar in vaporizer technology.
Saw this before the email arrived ;)
Looks like Will was onto something in his first video review.

Well I don't want anyone to compromise any product especially a medical device, OG was right I did go through this once before it ya I've reserved myself to be patient and wait for this unit to be perfect.
It was just so close to being released I never expected this at all.
I hope they take the time to look into the oil Can and the wispy vapor it produces.
Anyway I wish DV good luck.
Cheers medical mark

Yea I'm becoming increasingly disappointed in the prospects for this vape with oil. Seems like it will not size up to purpose built oil vaporizers.

Iam one of the most impatient people I know (lol ) But due to some patients including your self have tough me to me more patient seeing some one in need of there medical device and it not functioning as intended!!!!!
I thankfully have a couple devices that work and help the wait, but I too cant wait to have a more all purpose device wit the ascent!!!!

I feel my post earlier sounded Harsh, I do apologize,I wasnt trying to be!!!

Some one just suggested a volcano screen or healthsone ttype of insert that might make vaping oil in the ascent more nail like if needed!!!!
I didnt have good succes with the original davinci and the oil cans(with oils) , but did have greeaaaaaaat success with organic cotton and a dab size hit smeared on the inside!!!!(I know some arent to keen on this idea), but I have to say it worked amazingly for me at the time!!!

Not sure how the ascent is going to perform with waxes budders & shatters in the oil can, only time will tell!!!!

Edit
hopefully the the fix they have in mind is a quick and painless one!!!
It might even be an added part that comes with the package that you maybe install yourself!!!
This is more like wishful thinking out loud!!!!:ninja:

The oil can method may be proving to be just short of the ambition. My theory (humbly submitted) is that the glass jar thickness may not allow enough heat transmission (conduction) to penetrate the oil/wax and bring it to boil. Higher temps, more cook time, and smaller dabs might get the job done, but not optimally. JMNSSO (Just my not-so-scientific opinion).

wouldn't it be a good idea if that sealing they are adding is removable? just to make the all glass people happy they still have a 100% all glass vapor path ?

It's still all-glass. The bit they're adding, if I understand correctly, would go around the "inner" glass stem (the one that extends) to provide a better seal. The inner stem you draw on would still be inside of the bigger inner stem that has the built-in screen.

Edit: I was wrong. The seal will go around the bowl area.

ah, ok, I had the impression they were adding some sort of seal around the "gap" where the oven swivels open, my bad

As i understand the new mail, may be there will be few weeks to wait.

But we all note the customer service for a new seal.

I'll be waiting to hear from DV as to whether or not this will delay the release. People are saying more than a month, which I can't wait that long for a new portable simply because time is an issue. Still may pick one up down the road.

People if they didn't do this fix you would all be bitching about the wispy vapor and say this vape sucks. This is a great thing that they figured it out before release so no returns or mad customers. I am not a business person but a month is a min IMO no knowledge opinion.

I really appreciate the receptive quality and business stance of the Davinci company. The improvement mentioned above answers the very question I've had about the Ascent: Can it produce good quality dense vapor? If it can do that, it's gold! Sounds well worth waiting a bit more.
Agreed. For those of us who want to pack smaller loads, this is great news.

Seriously.. I wanted a portable for summer activities like disc golf. Now I'm wondering if I should just buy a fuckin genie real quick because I don't want to waste anymore summer time.

I try to be positive mostly but sheeeeeeit... DV is really bad with commitment.

I understand that they want to have an A+ portable so I get their motive to want to fix the seal. They should have structured their beta testing & review testing in relation to release commitment differently though, because now they're just pissing a lot of people off. People who will still probably buy anyway. :whip:

As of right now, I hope they give an approximate estimation of the release soon. Which they probably will, judging from the email.

I still like DV. I hope they learn a little from all this to improve for next time though.

Frankly, I applaud their diligence. There have been SOOOO many portables thrown out in this market that simply were not ready for sale. The fact that they are testing and improving says a lot about their commitment to quality and in the end selling a unit that will have minimal complaints. I would love to have one of these, but I would rather wait until they have it right rather than pay for it and then pay for 2 or 3 trips back to the retailer for improvements and updates.

Thumbs up DaVinci, never compromise! Impatience is for those wanting the crafts, not for the craftsman.

BTW, Solo in a cup for frolf works great!

Why would you get pissed off if they never ever promised a release date. They said hopefully by X. Just because they have an open business plan and allow us to peak inside and have inside knowledge doesn't mean they said it WILL be released by. This happens with every manufacturer that allows us to know stuff so please don't discourage it. The only difference with DV is they even let the outside world get a peak by posting on FB but that doesn't change the fact that in the normal world we don't know this information. All of a sudden a product is ready to be put on the shelf like the new xbox and then they start amping you up to buy it when in reality it is ready to be shipped to the stores.

I'm not super pissed off or anything myself. I'm mostly judging a perception from reading their fb.

Although I'll admit I am disappointed that it'll be a little longer and that I'll probably have to buy some other portable for the meantime. So what if I am... that's natural. I understand what you're saying, but really.. if people are getting upset then that shows there is room for improvement when it comes to customer relation. (Though all this definitely seems to be building tension and demand, so they have that going for them. Conspiracy theory time! jk) All this said, I do agree with their decision to fix the seal and push back release -- it's better for everyone and we can wait. What I'm saying though is...

Letting people see the inner workings of the company = Cool.

Getting people excited about a release time over and over (whether solid or not), then failing to hit the target again and again, causing unrest from your potential customers = Something can be improved here.

This is all my opinion, and also this is definitely not omg terrible business practice. It's just something they can probably manage better in the future. If your potential customers are getting upset (and not just from this recent announcement), then you should learn from it and try to avoid the stuff that made them upset next time. So maybe more thorough beta & reviewer testing, & a more accurate release projection that doesn't need to keep getting pushed back. A far off date that can be pulled to sooner maybe.

A learning experience is all it is.

I agree, why would you want to buy a portable that isn't at its best?? Its a good thing they are looking into all these issues(wispy vapor is an issue for me ). I have a Cera that I got pretty early in the game and already had to deal with warranty service 3xs. That's not good for me or the company, DaVinci is doing the right thing, they don't even have your money yet..

I totally agree but it does beg a few questions...beta testers are quite quickly complaining about the wispy vapor but why didn't davinci do something about it before this? I know they tested it themselves a lot before even handing it over to the betas. Did they just hope it wouldn't be a big enough problem? I know they got the same results before handing it over to the betas and with the amount of time they have delayed already you just have to wonder why this didn't get done earlier around the time these were being shown at trade shows. I mean after all this waiting I just haven't been hearing the kind of praise I thought all this time and hard work would warrant.

Now i also dont know if davinci will further enhance the oil jars. I mean we already know how hard organicix has worked to upgrade and service the first davinci in only roughly a year. So how do we know there wont be a more better oil jar design or performance upgrade shortly after these first batches go out to the eager preregs? by most accounts so far, everyone's first impression with the oil jars performance is lackluster. That to me is sad. Anything on the lines of good reviews for oil performance would have trumped other concerns about this vape. It could have been less sexy, less sleek but if it could have added the good performance we are hearing with herb and also delivered on oil performance I would have been more happier.

The elephant in the room is...Did davinci preemptively concede that this vape wouldn't be an all rounder ala the cera. I was totally under the impression that this was going to compete with the cera. This isn't the cera thread but I'm just highliting my impression that the cera is very good at both oil and herb and that i believed the ascent would similarly do away with needing two devices for vaping.

Btw whoever suggested a custom healthstone for oils, I like how you think. That might be a fix if the heat is adequate enough in the bowl to heat up the stone enough.

As I see it, if the Ascent can produce excellent vapor at mid-temps with a partial bowl fill, along with cloudy oil, it will be an industry game changer: a big next step in the evolution of portable vapes. This is what I was hoping for when I placed my pre-reg order. Meantime, my Solo/DG Bubbler keeps me happy. Again, I really like DV business stand on bringing an optimized product to market. They could've taken our money straight away and eventually come out with a version 2, but this is better. I think in this regard DV put us first!

I see a lot of people being patient but the thing is these are also the people with other vapes. For someone like me, this is going to be my first vape and when a company says its going to release its product on a certain date you expect it to meet its deadline. So far its been delayed 3 months from april going on 4 and this is getting quite ridiculous. I just want a vape and if da vinci doesnt think they can get their product out soon they should tell us that so we can look into other arrangements. If we dont get an update soon for the ascent I might have to look at buying the pax because after a 4 month delay we atleast deserve a new expected release date.....

Thank you for letting everyone know just how things should be done, with your very first post. Since we've heard this complaint before, here and elsewhere, and it serves no purpose, don't expect it to spark any discussion or a promise of a release date from DaVinci. It doesn't pay to announce a shipping date if you're not 100% certain you can meet it. The only update concerning release is the one posted one page back. Considering the fact that a design improvement was just made, you should be happy that what gets shipped will be a better product than if it had been released last month or last week. If getting a vape in your hands by a certain date is your priority, then I'd say you're better off buying a model that you know will ship as soon as you buy it. Posts that are nothing more than about the release date are currently just getting deleted. If you want to complain, do it here- http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/a...on-device-tech-thread.9803/page-6#post-409996

I'm glad the general consensus is supporting Da Vincis decision to release a quality product.

Reminds me of Valve Time, heh. I don't think it'll disappoint. Might be able to make some other quick fixes for the oil canister, but won't really break the deal for me. Concentrates do not exist in this neck fo the woods at all.

Kudos to DV.

I think Max raises a good point (as he usually does), well worth serious consideration. If you're putting all your eggs in one basket, best be sure of the quality of the eggs and the soundness of the basket?

While I agree that the speculative delivery should be considered a negative here, I also think selecting a brand new vape, even from a 'known maker' like DV, also involves risks. Even more so for the newbie without any experience or alternative vapes to fall back on.

I'd suggest instead a more traditional 'first vape', from the availability POV....but also because it's much more likely to suit new users and such vapes' operation, performance, tips and other details are already worked out. There will be plenty of help and advice from experienced owners, where here, with this product the total number of guys you can get help from is easily counted on part of one hand?

I'd look to Vapor Genie, Solo, MFLB or one of the more proven units. Ones known to be 'new user friendly' and offer proven performance and good 'learning experience'. And dozens of seasoned users to help you over the rough spots we all have at first.
