I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
I consider the stuff that comes with to be a potpourri that doesn't work well with the lil useless potpourri bowl stem.

Just throw both of them out since although they appease the legality purpose of the manufacturer and sellers, it is nothing more than what I consider.... disguise, and has no 'real' purpose.

If you feel like messing with it for shits & giggles, by all means, go for it as I'm pretty sure most of us have when we got it. But, the consensus is..... trash, lol.

I tried it in the dish and yes you are better to just throw it away instead of wasting your time with it. I had it in my small home office abd used it while burning off the factory oil when I first got it and that smell was stronger than the potpourri smell was

Ah ill probably mess with it.

As for the light I believe it is the one below "spilling" a little light into the temp above.

Ill post a picture later tonight after I use it ;).

I am curious though, I've noticed sometimes my sessions last longer than the 12 minutes and I find myself turning it back on for some final hits.

I like to use it on 4 but if I crank it up to 5 at the end I can nab an extra hit or two sometimes.

If I had to choose between the PVHES or PVHEGonG which should I get and why.

I plan on buying more screens with this. Also you can't use the PVHES with the GonG adapter can you?

So im not sure if this has been brought up in this massive thread yet, but I've had my mind set on a solo for a bit now and I browsed the plug in vape section of the forums and looked at the vapexhale cloud thread and it got me wondering... Is there an accessory for the solo that's like the evolver accessory for the vapexhale cloud?!

This site helped me choose my vapourizers so I thought i'd give a little something back and show you all how I am charging my Solo off of AA batteries for when i'm camping or at a cottage with no power.


If you do this do it at your own risk. I assume it voids your warranty though i'm not sure if they could tell.

A friend of mine has a nice island up North that has no running water or electricity. A week ago I became hooked on vapourizers and am now ruined on burning. The taste is nasty. So after becoming hooked on the Arizer Extreme Tower Q(The name generally involves 2 or 3 of those words) I picked up Arizer Solo. It's a great little unit. But i'm going to be without electricity for 5 days so needed to find a way to charge it without a car or ac power. So using a few parts I had laying around as well as $5 in parts I picked up today I put together a device to charge the solo using 12 AA or AAA batteries.

The voltage regulator has a small heatsink attached but in the 4 hour or so charge time it could heat up quite a bit. The regulator is outputting 12V but being fed 18V. Some of the excess will be lost as heat and over the charging cycle the it would gradually increase in temperature till it gets quite hot. The hotter it gets the lower it's efficiency it gets so you want to keep it as close to room temperature as possible. When I realized that the solo charges at 12V and the heatsink I had laying around had a fan that ran at 12V it seemed like a no brainer to add the option to turn on a fan incase the heatsink got too hot.

Parts:
-LM7812 voltage vegulator
-On/Off rocker switched with led indicator
-3 way rocker switch(standard on/off would have been better but I had this laying around)
-Power lined from broken breadboard
-Intel stock 3570k heatsink fan
-Coax DC power plug, 4mm OD and 1.7mm ID
-Heat shrink
-Protoyping electronics board
-Various lengths of red and black solid core wire
-Cardboard
-Cable Ties
-Superglue

Construction:
-Plan the layout of your prototype board. Check that you have planned all the connections right.
-Now double check it.
-Now triple check it. You do not want to put it all together only to find out you made a mistake.
-Solder the voltage regulator to the breadboard. If the regulators built in heat sink is flat on a table and pointing away from you, the pins from left to right are 1, 2, and 3
-Connect pin 1 to the bread board positive power line with the 3 way rocker switch between the two. On the rocker switch the wires should be connected to the middle prong and one of the sides.
-Connect pin 2 to the bread board negative power line. Also to negative line of the solo's plug(outer part of plug). To solder to the plug unscrew the black cap and expose the innards. Also to the negative line of the fan with the on/off rocker switch between the two.
-Connect pin 3 to the positive line of the fan. Also to the positive line of the solo's plug(inner part of plug)

Operation:
-Main switch: connects the battery pack to the voltage regulator feeding 12V to the Solo's plug
-Fan: only works if main power switch is on. This works as a sign that the device is on.

Notes:
-You could permanently attach the battery pack to the prototyping board. The reason I didn't is because AA/AAA combo battery packs were on sale so I wanted to be able to swap battery packs.
-I used 12 batteries making 18V. 10 batteries making 15V would likely be sufficient for this circuit.
-I shop at active surplus which sells used parts. This is why the parts were so cheap. It's also why the led indicator on the fan switch doesn't work.

I'll update here when I get back to let you all know how it went.

Got my Solo in yesterday and im currently tokin on it now ;) .. This is only my 4th time in less then 24 hours but the more I use it the more im learning to draw better from it. Already know im a temp 4/5 guy and 6/7 for the last few pulls.

How do you guys pack your stems tho?
Do you guys completely stuff it to the point there is a hill of bud or do you pack it to the top but none over.....fill it up but dont tightly pack it ?

Also.... what do you feel is better for more clouds...bigger pulls...between nuggets or grinded up bud (if so how, to what point do you grind your bud?)

Be careful though, since there isn't a fine screen on by default (like the kind you'd put in a pipe) you may end up inhaling the tiny flecks of bud that flow through!

And common sense tells me that if you want big clouds, you want ground-up herb. More surface area than just sticking a nug in. More surface area = more getting heated at the same time. That's why conduction-based vaporizers (like the Launch Box) get better vapor production the finer it's ground.

c_for, excellent post! Your pics didn't post properly, though. Thanks, PIU forgot my grinder so there sending me one with a couple extra stems and some "goodies" for their error. I already ordered the PVHES bent turbo stem and the PVHES GonG with the variety pack of screens...I'm hoping these really take the solo next level.

Sir, don't throw out your bowl. It does work with oils if you so choose or you are say in a hotel room and need some fresh scent. As far as that stupid bag of useless flowers it is really low grade stuff and even with a proper potpourri machine those would be useless. Also another member a few pages back took his bowl to a glass blower and had a stem made out of it.

First off, welcome to the Forum and vaping. IMO good choices for first vapes, and any vape is better than blazing.....that stuff can eat up your stash and kill you off early.....most consider that a bad combination and I'm with 'em there.

Fun idea, one I've tossed around some. I think you might want to rethink this a bit though.

First off AA alkalines aren't going to cut it. For sure AAAs are non starters at the 800mA the charger needs, their internal resistance will collapse the raw supply way too fast. Even top quality AAs aren't really up to it, notice the graph on the Energizer:

The graph at the top of page two tells the tale, it shows that you'll need two parallel banks (400mA each) to get one hour charging to 1.2 Volts per cell. At that point the input will be 14.5 Volts, the regulator will be out of headroom and the 12 Volts out will start to fall. The Solo will 'tilt out' about 1 Volt (a few minutes) later. You have to stay over 11 Volts in. I'd expect one hour charging time from 24 AAs. At that point the majority of the charge is still in the battery, but you can't use it. Going to a LDO regulator like the the LM2940 (instead of 7812) will give you some of that back:

Given that one hour is a little less than half a charge for Solo, you'll probably need 4 or 5 dozen Alkaline AAs for a full charge?

Switching to the L91 (AA Lithium) will give you about four times the service, and will run off a dozen, not two dozen, cells in the battery. At the very least I suggest using them instead:

Perhaps a better scheme is to use a battery of 3, or better 4, 18650 cells. That's where I ended up, anyway.

By all means enjoy your trip, but I strongly suggest you test your little project before setting of into the bush relying on it.

If it was me taking the trip, I'd pack a VG, my Vapman, or Hammer. Maybe even more than one. All of them work very well IMO and run on butane which is easier to deal with than trying recharges this way?

Yes, but the issue is charge current. Solo needs about 800mA which means a big and expensive panel if you expect to charge in less than very strong sun (where most panels are rated). Producing anything less than that needed ten plus Watts is of no use at all to Solo, all you get is the light show. A hundred dollars and several square feet would probably do it. A better scheme would probably be one of the 'accumulator' systems where it changes an internal battery all day at a slow rate (whatever is available) and lets you drain it out at a high rate. They too can be pricey, but smaller at least.

I'd still go Hammer or something like that that runs on gas. You need a lot of energy to run Solo in real world terms. "Energy density" kills you when you have to tote it along.

Damn that's hella cool, I'm the only one in my group of friends who has a Solo. It's pretty cool because I pack it tight and to the brim and it just goes around and murders everyone :lol:

You're welcome, glad to help if I can.

Folding or roll up versions are the only way there, really. IIRC you get about 1000 Watts per square meter under ideal conditions. Practical panels get about 10% of that, less than that in less that full sun or without constant adjustment as the sun travels. We need at least 10 Watts to anti up with the Solo, so we're talking about a quarter square meter at least? Maybe two square feet.

Since we need a high rate, best to store it up over time and dump it quickly when we need to charge.

I'd opt for something else. For stored charge Li-ions are the call which is why they show up in cell phones and laptops. I'd consider rigging up a two cell holder for 18650s to plug into where the factory battery is I think, forget charging in the Solo, just do discharges?

Yoshi, when I got my M104 and took it up skiing my friends were all blown away by it so they all bought their own (one of em bought two so he has a back up). If we are out for an overnight or two we're usually good to go. Sounds like your friends need to get their own as well so you can keep the fun going without having to figure out other means.


OF, sounds like the solar technology isn't there yet. A couple of square feet would take up too much room even if rolled up. I'll just have the friends carry the extra weight until higher efficiency smaller and lower cost panels become available. Thanks again.

I was visiting a friend of mine who has the solo and i saw him use his aromacup to dab his reclaim in it.. He heats the narrower tube part with a torch and drops the oi and covers it with the stem and inhales :) works like a charm :)
