So after about a months use of my solo i havnt noticed any decline in the battery. However, i just recently noticed that when i turn it on and heated up if i smell inside the crucible it has a weird smell. Its kinda like a burnt smell but not exactly. I have noticed that even with how small the 4 air flow holes are stuff still falls down through them.
I wanted to experiment with this to figure why it has that smell. I turned it on all the way to 7 and let it fully heat, i then tried to pull from the crucible with just my lips to see if i could get any vapor or smoke nothing came out. So then i put in a clean stem to pull from and still nothing but the smell. It is not an overly strong smell, just smells like something is being toasted/ hair dryer smell.
Any ideas?
also im thinking about getting the pa is it worth the 45 dollars?

I'd say go through the crucible with an iso soaked q tip, should get rid of most of the smell. Especially the bottom, that's where it's exposed.

And I'd say from what I hear, the PA is worth it if you use it more than 8 times at home and don't like constantly charging it up. So basically using it like a home unit.

IMO the PA is a new life to your Solo battery. So bummed when you need to leave home suddenly and you have a depleted battery :( (that's why I have 2xSolos :) and 2x PA , Y adapter and sweet dreams angels. All modified stock stems, gotta love your dremmel.
OF and Pipes are on helping design an unique combo, charger + PA + car chargerPA maybe???
That's a dream come true. IMO is worthy the wait for those minds. Really good people around this forum. Thx FC and all FCers.
Stayed vaped :)

That's a true rumor, just answered his latest email in fact. I'm not sure about the dream part, I'll settle for no nightmare.....

I've been using my prototypes a lot lately, and have one set out for testing and am putting another together now.

Pipes is modifying the packaging some, since he's making them that seems only fair. It will mean some additional delay as he orders and tests the new stuff, but I think it'll happen soon enough. Some of the parts I'm using (like the 12 Volt 2.5 Amp supply) are not available in Canada. So he has to find a suitable one that is or mess with importing a lot of them through customs. I'm glad that's not my problem.....

Pipes is a sharp guy, with experience making and selling his PA for the Thermo Vape T1. IMO he can make it happen. Hopefully the demand/customers will be there when the time comes to support the commitments he'll have to make (volume wise) to get the costs down. I still think $40 is a good price point, perhaps a bit less even?

As someone already reported, PAs work great in the house when you want to save some juice and stress in your battery, because that's the point of portable, to be able to go and vape anywhere unattached...

I remember not a long time ago, sitting in the toilet with a joint or bong, combusting and reading a mag or book... Times have changed, nowadays is Solo and iPhone 5 :) in this case still use my PA :) jajajaja bad example of portability , my bad...

Well anywhere in the house when you'll be moving or not a plug close or you just don't like to be attached....

Just plug your Solo in the PA ...
let it heat till 7...

unplug and place loaded stem in chamber...

run your Solo in portable mode AFastAP...
set temp. on 3... (for extra taste, go native drawing on your stem,no WTool)

go Solo or mate with your favorite water path...
draw kind of fast for cooling down chamber and chase those very very tasty glass hit :) ... then goes as your desire temp...

IMO, using a PA and this method helps a lot on battery life...
Am I a little right here??? :) ...
Many users already do this I'm sure, but lot of new members lately that need some help here.
Glad to help newcomers, I was a pichón once too :) PM me for details and 101 in DIY mods if help needed...

@ Dreamerr , I still owe you some Skype time. Since last time things went crazy. See u soon hopefully.

@ OF @ Pipes , all my support goes in your project, count on me with any help you need. Thx.

Wow! Stereo Solos! And both on PAs? How cool is that?

Thanks.

OF
Since I received my first Solo I thought about this.
Then I watched a long time ago a Frederick McGuire video and find the solution , Y adapters are the best, 2x vapes or alone with glass stopper as a carb.
Hey, OF, would it be possible to have 2x Solos plugged in your version of car PA???
That will be a KO, designated driver anyone?? :)

In reverse order, thanks for the support.

I think you raise an excellent point here. No doubt it'll save battery life, the question is how much? I can measure it, I think, next time I hack into it (I'm planning to make some battery draw measurements.

We can also do this empirically I think? In broad terms at least, from data we have. At 7.5 Volts in on the PA I measured 28% at step 2, 36% at step 4 (didn't do step 3). Averaging them makes it 32%, it's on one minute in 3. I just timed 90 seconds to make step 7 and shut down heat from a 'warm' (first light lit from 5 minutes or so before), so that same number of seconds would run at step 3 three times longer.

You save enough power for 4.5 minutes of additional session time....quite a bit, really.....

Give or take.

Fun idea. Thanks again.

Yes, it'll take a couple parts changes (and a second output jack of course), but I don't see why not. The same thing for home would need a bigger desktop supply, again not a big deal but needs to be planned for.......

Can anyone let me know if the M107 serial numbers have the ceramic coating? Are there any differences between the M107 and the M1A4?
No ceramic coating in my 107. SS chambers started in 105, am I wrong??
I don't have the tools, I'm always medicated, but IMO and after using both my 107 and 1D2?? for a long year :) of heavy use, 5 sessions at least daily, I'm feeling that my 107 ABV comes darker than my 1D2. Same herbs and grind, time of the day and water tool. Same power outlet and native and PA.
I'm just trusting my senses, vision, smell, taste, etc etc.
Nothing measured by tech here.
I can be wrong...
Enjoy your 100s to your 1As to your 1Zs ...
Mainly, stay vaped my friends...

So, I'm vaped already and forgot my point, IMO my 107 runs hotter than my 1D2.
That was all about my rumbling...

BTW, maybe is just firmware, no tools to measure temp as I said before, but 1D2 reaches "supposed" temp level desired by at least, 5 to 10 seconds before my 107. Need to time it better, sorry, next time...

Looks like I'll be getting my solo on Monday.

Looking very forward! I love seeing how much cloud is able to be drawn in such short time in those videos, Maybe now I'll be able to kick this combustion habit for good this time around.

Cool.

I'm not sure what device you're using but it also bears watching the input voltage in auto use. Generally the switch element in the converter is optimized for speed, which usually means compromising Vcc....which is why you see the 'headroom' small in distributed systems. In auto use, you need to expect 15 VDC for long times, 18 or so for a second or so and even worse for RV use where folks go to 'shore power' and the lights get real bright for a change.....they still expect to vape then too.

Fun project.

******************

In other news, Pipes and I just had another exchange, we're converging on one design. He's favoring an aluminum box with pigtail leads, something like my second prototype.....since he's gotta make 'em he gets final call there I guess.

I'm expecting a solid, dependable design able to do 'all four modes' (charge and PA in both auto and home) with all necessary bits for $40 or maybe a bit less? Yes, it does include 220 Volts operation (Pipes was right there.....darn Cannuks!), although we haven't identified the cord for that (no big deal I'm sure, we just don't have a lot of them here in the US. It's a standard connector on the supply.

More later when it's available. But it's 'looking good'.

Yeah I understand car/auto voltage requirements. My selected module can buck from 32v max so as to even cover 24v systems and solar. To save additional juice i'm even thinking of fitting my solo with a direct battery access port so that I can charge the battery using a solar panel at any low rate using any panel outputting 8.4v or more. The internal charge logic seems to crap out and stop the charge process if the amperage drops below 300mA so using the direct access would avoid this and also even allow charging while vaping. I'm going to double up the protection circuitry to protect input from abuse/shorts/overcurrent too. Anyhoo keep up the good work its nice when you can mod something and get a more powerful experience.

You don't understand, really.... when you get the hang of how to use the Solo (very quick), you won't want to combust! I'll put $5 on it :p

What, Me Worry?
Got my Solo in the mail on Friday from Puffitup.

I have to say I am really impressed with this little thing! At level 5 the flavor was really good and surprisingly smooth, especially for a portable. While it did not produce quite as much visible vapor as the LSV or Vrip it more than held it's own despite being much smaller and battery powered. Plan on trying it out with water tonight using the straight stem plugged into the 14mm gong on my 11" travel tube.

How can I tell which model this is?

Is it the first four digits of the serial number?

The first four digits on mine are M1B1. Does this mean it is newer than the M1A4?

Yes , the M1B was released after the M1A's .
But they're just sequential serial #'s .
For all we know , an M1A and M1B unit could have been manufactured the same day .
But just one given the newer serial # .

Enjoy your Solo .
