Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

No. The Solo heats the air before it ever hits the bowl, which is only warmed through secondary conduction.
Is this a certainty? I don't own a Solo and I only read its thread casually, but I recall some interesting discussion a while back about how the Solo doesn't have a heat exchanger to heat air.

Found some of it here from (hope you don't mind me quoting you, OF).

No. The Solo heats the air before it ever hits the bowl, which is only warmed through secondary conduction. It also has a built in air restriction that won't let you pull too hard so your hits are consistently thick without practice.

The Ascent has a bowl primarily heated by conduction/radiation and the convection is secondary. Cooler air is hitting the bowl, so it works best when you let it heat up to a point where it is producing vapor and your draw pulls it out. It has a more open air flow that can allow the user to overwhelm it. Just like the SSV...you need to get your draw speed right for the best hits.

If your saying drawing off of it is comparable to an ssv then I'm all good with that! Love the ssv and I've got the draw down!

I don't wanna go into a solo debate but that heating chamber gets way to hot just sitting and not being drawn through to be solely convection. There is ALOT of conduction going on in the solo. I believe my idea with the upside down oil can would make it act very much like a solo with a less restrictive draw. But who the fuck knows?!?! Youve got that bad boy in hand and I don't! Lol so I'm just spouting off speculative bullshit!

Also I think there would be a large audience that like using small loads.

Considering the HUGE success of the Purple Days, along with other log vapes at the time, and log vapes now, I'd tend to agree with you. For those who place conservation at or near the top of their priority list, the ability to vape small amounts in a satisfying hit or two is paramount. What's also true though, is that there are many others who could care less.

I'm a weekend warrior with Cannabis who gets by on small amounts. I'm also a fan of efficiency.

I not saying there aren't users who use .05g or less per session. All I'm saying is that the Ascent doesn't seem like it is designed for those users. Log Vapes and other one-hitter vapes are more conducive to efficiency with ultra small loads IMO....

Idk how everyone has an impression that this thing can't work with smaller loads.... it works just fine.

I think all three of you have made it clear that the original issue with smaller was just due to it not being damped down/packed.

That being said, how do you damp it? I don't think the pick/tool has a big enough head? A pen? Other household tool? I think I might have a pipe tool that might work.

Not sure have clear idea of what will fit inside bowl (outside of flower :) )

OHHH! You can use the oil cans, as those are designed to fit the bowl's oval shape!

It's not that the Ascent can't work with small loads. According to all of the reviewers it most certainly can. However, I think people who use ultra small loads < .05g basically want to know if it's the best and most efficient vape on the market for that useage profile. From what I've heard so far the answer is no. However, the jury is still out......

Some people won't listen to sticks and slim, maybe they will listen to you... Maybe in a haiku format??

Is the question 'does is work or not with small loads?' or is it 'is this a good choice for users who want small loads?'? Seems to me those are two different questions with two different answers?

A guy can drive a school bus down for a six pack, but that doesn't make it a good choice if that's the goal.

Interesting little vape, it'll be interesting to see how it looks a few months down the road when dozens of owners chime in.

Yea I agree, log vapes will always hold top for efficiency imo. Just so excited about this vape, wondering how it compares. But it seems as everyone else has iterated, smalls loads works fine if packed tight.

I have one in my hands currently lol... it's efficient. The size of your clouds does not necessarily reflect the way it medicates you... I still get an evenly browned bowl, I just prefer it at higher temps with a full trench.

I've been using the little pick, but it's kind of a pain in the ass that way. I think using my pinky finger works about as well as anything. I packed a bowl too tight last night when shooting some water-filtration footage, and it took awhile before I got nice clouds; almost like it was getting warmed up.

I speak for myself, but have gotten the best results with the bowl filled to the top; semi-packed... but not too tightly. I think .1 or a little less is a fair estimate.

EDIT: Just weighed out what I presume to be my "perfect amount"; weighed out to .2 (bouncing back and forth between .1 & .2. My herb is very dry, and was pinched and dropped into the trench until it filled to the top. Not much packing going on. IF I wanted to pack it, I could have got .1 more in there....

'does is work or not with small loads?'

The answer to that one is 'yes'

'is this a good choice for users who want small loads?'

My answer to this one is 'yes' as well. I think by simply packing a small load tightly you can average/good results. I' have found it to be extremely good at smaller loads when using a spacer. I would rather have a vape that can hold a lot and work well with little than a vape that doesn't hold much but is great at that small amount.

One of my fingers. The pinky finger fits all the way down there if I really want to pack it down.

I have a idea, don't know how good it is? But here it goes, maybe split the oil jar in half with a glass divider that is part of the oil jar. One half could be drilled with three holes, and the other side leave solid as in the original jar thus half load flowers, half load oil. Mix oil with flowers or just conserve.

I bought a vape tool and I use it to stir and pack the pax. Sure it would work for the ascent.

I haven't been keeping up with the thread, been SUPER busy. I'm going to be shooting some footage for my review; anything in particular anyone would like to see while I'm at it?

Hey THR ,
I would like to see some vapors produced with Budda/Waxes/Oils at various temps .
Using the oil/cans with NO cotton , please . Especially Budda/wax at the higher temps .

Please and Thank you .

Agree. I use smaller amounts with my portable (just me) more than I use larger amounts (with my mates). But I very much prefer the option of using large amounts when I want, yet with the same vape. Great versatility with the Ascent, it appears.
