Can anybody explain why every post about this product by i-olite has oddly been edited to NOTHING???

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PRODUCT BUT NOW I AM VERY SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THIS.....

I was interested in getting one but wanted to know more about it, and the thing is that its quite worrying for me that the company would remove all posts relating to manufacturing and materials (as well as safety with the butane) and in the end Im left wondering how the system even actually works??? I read on their description of the product there is "no flame" and then at the same time advertising "easily ignited and reaches vaporizing temperature".....

Here is my concern currently. it has to do with warranty. Iolite, on its site, has its warranty statement, and inclluded in it is language:
"10. This Limited Warranty is not enforceable if the Product is sold through an
unauthorised Internet seller. All Authorised Internet sellers have a unique
seller code provided directly from Oglesby and Butler Ltd.

So, they are saying they warranty it but not if you bought from an "unauthorized internet seller", whatever that means. I have now purchased 3 Iolites (1 was for a friend). I got the 2nd one because (a) the thing works great, and (b) the first one that I paid 190 US for stopped working. I have been trying now for about 2 months to get them to take it back for warranty coverage, but have met only stonewalls. I produced my sales receipt (ebay) but have not been provided an RMA. The first one lasted about 7 months and I used it several times a day. It is my method of delivery. That is what it is made to do. It is not sold or intended for occassional use away from the home. So I use it all the time. Nothing else. But now the 2nd one is now giving suggestions that it is failing - won't light up. It is a nice system. There is a small "flame" periodically when the thermostatic elements feed fuel. I have figured I use about 1/5 a joint per session, and get lots of good hits per session. My sessions are 10-15 min, and it will function for about 45 min. on one filling. It works exceedingly well. When it works. I have lung issues and it is very gentle. Much more conservative in use than the 2 box vaporizers I have. Seems to actually be more conservative than the 1-hitters I always used (I'm cheap and hate to waste). But the 1-hitters work 100% of the time year in/year out, and the Iolite does not seem to me to have the reliability I would expect for a well-designed costly product like this. I am not at all concened with "noxious gasses emenating from the product" because frankly if you use papers you already have those and if you use anything with a flame you have them. The herb is placed in a sealed container and that container is heated and from that container you suck out the gasses. It is a really slick system. You don't have to carry around a pocket full of batteries. But I am not sure if it is worh perhaps 500 US a year to maintain with a working vaporizer. In other words, If a NIB Iolite isn't warranteed, ... well, it can be problematic. And costly to keep buying new ones every several months. For me it seems either hard on the lungs, or hard on the wallet.

If one in fact were using it just occassionally, when on the road or at the beach or away from the sturdy home unit, I suppose it would last a long time. But if you are going to use it as "the" delivery system, then you should consider the possibility of failure with no recourse unless the dealer is "authorized" and even then being 'without' while you ship the unit back for repair and it is returned, look at the other portable units, or using a plug-in model in your car via a 12V/110 converter. Or the downside of a firey-hot 1-hitter or joint.

Shh! I'm Taping Here
Have had one for a bit now and it is a good vape. Nice and mellow delivery and nice head. you have to hit it a bit to get a big head but I have no issues with it lighting or getting to temp and subsequently holding it.

Not much of a review. but it isn't that big Milky blowout vape. Even with the noise it is pretty stealthy great for shows.

I just put the optimizer in it. It helps with extraction. Pretty even. With it the 2-3 pulls are better than the first but it really gets going after that.

I don't know if I have bad luck our something, but at the same time have found a huge flaw in Ogelsby and Butler Iolite. Very bad if you are passed their warranty period. I will be posting an email from their customer service that is very concerning. I probably don't plan on purchasing anymore because of the following email. Looks like if the device fails passed the warranty period your forced to purchase a new one. SORRY! This is a little ridicules since they are the only ones that can really fix these devices. I hope HQ sees this because they need to fix. I offered to pay to fix it, but they say they don't do that.

We do not offer repair services and only provide replacements under the warranty replacement policy. The replacement you received for the beta model was warrantied for 90 days from the date of replacement. This 90 day warranty period has expired on this unit.

You have been shipped a replacement unit and should expect to receive it in the next several days. The warranty on this replacement is 24 months from date of the original purchase or 90 days from now whichever period is longer.

I am complaining because I have been one of the first users of the Iolite before it was an Iolite. It used to be the I-inhale. Right off the bat I had purchased two because I loved the functionality and portability of the vape. One day the piezo failed on one of the units which Ciran at Ogelsby and Butler was happy to assist over the phone and then replace once it was realized that the piezo did not ignite. I was happy then because they were able to take care of me. I then had the issue with the pin stripping on the other. Again they replaced this one right away and put my in the beta program. They also stated they would be providing me a free one after the beta program was finished and the alpha model was being sold. So I ended up getting two beta models and still had my two original I-inhale branded models. While using the beta models exclusively I began to have and issue with the butane starting up the normal hissing I am accustomed to. I reported it and they stated the beta models are not warranty which I am fine with since they are beta models. I put the beta models away and began using the originally purchased ones since by all accounts the beta program had ended.

A few months later I am noticing the quality of the vapor on one was decreasing and causing me to take up to 45 minutes to finish a bowl. Needless to say this has never been the case. Whenever I vape with a good operating model it takes me about 15 minutes to finish the product. 20 minutes tops. I reported this and the company just tested piezo ignition and the fact the the unit turns on is enough for them to say it's functioning as designed. Funny that two models take such drasitc differences times to vaporize the same product. At this point the FREE one that was shipped in December of 2010 starts failing with the start of the gas and finally the piezo failing yet again. I reported this and they stated this NEW model only had a 90 day warranty period because it was a replacement for the beta. The original one they said they were not replacing. This was supposed to be a free one provided for all my trouble yet they are stating it was for the beta one that malfunctioned. I don't care about the fact that the warranty has ended. Warranties end in every product, but there seems to be a need for a paid service after a device is past it's warranty period. They are basically telling me that if the device is past it's warranty I am stuck with a broken device that cannot be fixed. Being forced to by another one that may or may not last. I only use Vector Butane. I follow the instructions to the tee and yet their product does not last. Pretty shitty customer service and I would now be thinking twice about purchasing any more products from this company until they decide to change this huge flaw in their customer service repair. :2c:

The customer service center in the U.S. is drastically different than when I dealt with Europe. They don't seem to be on the same page.

Hey all, I just made a new account on these forums for this. I've looked all over this forum and many, many others and just can't find anyone in a similar situation.

I've been using the Iolite since it was the Iinhale. I'm on my third unit atm. I'm only using Vector buntane in it, but I'm still getting clogged.

When I turn it on, I get slow gas flow. Sometimes it will get louder automatically and quickly, sometimes I have to bash the unit against something for a bit to get it going (amazing how resilient the inner workings are from impacts), and sometimes just a gentle tap.

I've purged it many times, I've run maybe 10 full tanks through it without heat to try to clean out some gunk or whatever it is.

Even once the thing starts roaring, its not steady at all, with bursts and gurggles constantly. Sometimes when it heats up it becomes more constant.

The BIG problem though, which I can't find ANYONE else having issues with, is both this unit, and the unit I replaced with this one, will get gas flow, sometimes roaring even loud as ever. But as soon as I start the reaction in the unit, the gas flow starts to burst and gurggle, eventually becoming completely inaudible.

The unit still heats up, but it takes approx. 10-15 minutes, and even when heated, it is completely unable to maintain 190c. I can pull from it for an hour, get a very mild effect, but the herb is still somewhat green and will provide a TON of vapor in my volcano (I'd use this primarily, but for stealth reasons I can't, it is more of a D&D group tool until I get my own place =D).

Being my 3rd unit, I know how these things are suppose to work with max efficiency. I've followed all the tips, tricks and proceedures for the thing, but can't seem to prevent problems.

Please, somebody, HALP! =P I'm getting kinda desperate for a solution here.

Unfortunately, sending them in for repair is out of the question. While I'm sure I'm still under warranty on the most recent unit, I've opened both of my older ones to try and get a feel for the inner workings and can't afford the horrible inefficiency of smoking. I have to admit, its quite interesting inside and many of the parts I've seen still leave a lot of questions (like where is the clog at when everything looks clean!!!) I've even forced open some parts I assume are intended to stay closed (not necessarily for vacum purposes, so safe to open) and they look as clean as they would out of the factory, I'd imagine. I'd taken some of the smallest needle like things I could and try to open some of the smaller areas within the unit (the exit valve for tank, the valve just above the platinum disk) but both of which must have turns inside as what I was using couldn't pass through them after a point.

Hoping I provided enough information to get some ideas. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide =D

@ DopeyJ. I feel you man. I have been using them since they first came out as well. I have had weird random issues. All of which seemed to get repaired by the warranty until the warranty ran out. Now I about 4 of these things sitting in my drawer. I have emailed HQ and they provided this little piece of information. This is good new for people like me that seem to have bad luck with these units.

Hi Buddha,

If the unit stops working after the warranty time then there is nothing
that we can do. If you follow the troubleshooting section on our
website this may help to solve the problem.

It does not. I have been using these devices for 3 years and quite frankly they do not last even when following the guide on your site to the tee. This is very bad customer experience and is probably the last iolite I will purchase because not being able to repair this device. Either the piezo fails or the unit stops hissing. Your company provided me a free one for being one of the first customers to have issues. I received this unit in december and now the unit began to fail after only one month. So your company moto is to leave customers with non-working device and are basically forcing then to buy a brand new device that may or may not last 3 years. Not good. I would really request this change because this is being posted on all vaporizer forums which will probably make people think twice before purchasing this device.

You should look at other vaporizer warranties on the market. Do your homework because this bad. Most offer paid service to fix after the warranty period had ended.

You guys are scaring my about the warranty stuff. I have had mine since Christmas and have not 'smoked' since then. So this has got some use, most every day since then.

I only use Vector and purge it now and then, but starting to have issues. At times it does not turn on, if I shake it a bit it usually starts. Then when it is going it does not always seem to be running full power, hiss is not as loud, other times the his will go up and down as its heating, not the normal on and off, more like going from full power to medium power then back to full.

One question for others, the 0\1 switch on mine when it's set at 0 (off) there is a lot of play in the button, sliding it towards 1 (on) your almost half way over before it gets that resistant feel of it actually doing something. When it's set to 1 (on) there is NO play, almost like its trying to move even more towards the on position. Is this normal? could whatever is in my iolite be twisting and not letting it go to full on position?

Thanks,
Drops

I have had these same issues as well and have not really complained because the warranty took care of it. The issues are valid and it seems these devices don't last. Not sure if it's my environment, but I only use vector as well and have also noticed the same in that gas won't flow at times. The worst is the piezo failure. Once that happens you can kiss the device good bye because it will never ignite again. I have one that lasted from December 2010 until April 2011 and the piezo has finally given out. They are working on a paid warranty service which I am fine with since I love the vaporizer when it's working.

Still really interested in how others on\off switch works, is there play in it when its off, if so how much? Hopefully would like to hear from someone who has no issues with theirs, even if it's still new.

My on/off switch goes halfway to the middle seam when it is off--seems to work just fine.
I also have a launch box and an I-torch which is sorta like a battery operated IO.

Well I've looked at the various vendors selling iolite that are legit this time around and I almost want to branch out and get a different vap. Maybe something like an extreme q or ss. I probably wouldn't feel this way but after getting warranty stiffed the last time around I'm not quiet ready to fork over ~$200 to them. Guess I'll scan the other fc forums for ideas.

i've an mflb which is good but there's definitely a learning curve to it. problem is this. headed out on a 5 day river float trip where there's no opportunities to recharge the batteries even though i've spare maha powerex's. i'd run through them before the end of the trip. my other friend and i are of the mind that once you vape there's no going back to combustion unless that's the only option.

my concerns are w/ durability (how fragile), availability of highly refined butane and toxicity. anyone have any info/opinions?

and yes, edibles will be on the menu since there'll be people there who we'll need to be discreet around.

please disregard my earlier post for info on the iolite. after reading a few posts concerning the iolite warranty i've decided my buddy and i will suffer through combustion when we can get away and indulge in edibles until then.

Whoa there- fuck combustion, no need to be so hasty. Other options. Have you thought about a lighter based vape, like the vapor genie?

Just received what may be my last replacement until they start offering a paid repair service. Lets see how long it lasts. In all honesty I was not the only one using the Iolite. My wife was using it mostly. I maintained it for her. She has taken a break from our sacred herb so I will be the primary user.

Alright, so I'm new to the vaporizer experience and I have a few concerns about my iolite. Now, like most children when they get a new toy, I forgot to read the instructions (especially the part about properly venting and regular maintenance), and now I'm having problems with the consistency of the "hissing" noise which comes from the release of butane (I think). It seems that sometimes I can get it to work but more often than not, nothing happens when I switch my vaporizer on. any kind of help that would shed light on this problem would be most appreciated.

russt504,
the hissing will happen intermittently, no worries, i just find it best to not hit it while its doing that (its reheating itself). Also in order to get the best hits, hit it very very gently, like your drinking coffee out of those lil red straws. the vapor should almost taste cool in comparison to the tip. What happens is because the mouthpiece is smaller, sucking on it harder cools the vapor more than you want it to, sometimes leaving that thc behind, suck slower, get ripped faster.

meatballvaper,
Hey guys, i am a new (active) member to your site. I have been reading alot about this vape and decided to get one not too long ago. I read pretty much every single post on this thread along with the no2 one. However instead of going with the borderline cult following of the mflb (I dont like the shape, seems more likely to combust potentially) i got the no2, which broke on me after a month

which puts me in this thread. my anger with vapir made me want their competitors product, enter iolite. I know I may not have much credibility, so you can listen to what i say as much or as little as you want, but in my defense, you have to start somewhere, and i do intend to be more active in this forum (as i begin to actually have something to say/contribute).

Allright so here it goes my first review. Enjoy
Intro
The Iolite is my second vape ever used, any comparisons i have are with the NO2. In the begginnning i liked the NO2 alot more for many reasons. It for one, had a whip. I wanted one. 2, it had batteries that i could charge and not waste money on butane, 3 it had a digital temperature read out/control. Also all the bad things i read save for 2 people had problems with vapirs past products, not this one.
So my no2 broke. the digital read out in it just flashes whenever i try to turn it on when its plugged in, when its just the battry i dont even get that. so for the next vape, i figured the iolite wont have those exact same problems.

Iolite the Begginning
So once i get it, im excited, ive read more online about this thing than you could ever imagine + every youtube video i could find multiple times. I was aware of the good aswell as the bad. My 1st time using it was me and 2 friends w/ some pineapple kush. After 2 bowls i was only feeling it only a little bit more than a buzz. i was like wtf.

Iolite: THe beginning of the end
Sad that while it worked, it didnt work as well as the no2, i kept experimenting and finally ii had a revelation. I was hitting it way too hard. once i started hitting it slower and amazingly i got 4 times as ripped as i wanted to be (had to go to dinner with the family). So ya there is a learning curve, but once you got it down, half as much does twice as much as the no2 did.

Now i need your help!
Like i said earlier i liked the whip. I see some similiar attachments for the iolite, but you guys are the experts, what would you recomend for a whip for the iolite?

The thought occurs to me that you could possibly measure the thing. Or just take 1 of your extra mouthpieces to your local homebrew shop, where they generally stock all different types of food grade tubing for use in siphoning and such, try em out till you find the one that fits.
