I've had one can of Vector not engage properly also. And I don't use the red adaptors. I now go for small refills along the way rather than 1 big one. Less spattering on me while refilling.

I also think the newer units are hotter. My first i-inhale had little vapor initially, but then seemed to vape hotter after several months. My two newer units iolites both produced thicker vapor right out of the box. I figured this was purposeful since many people want thick vapor. Personally I don't want a thicker vapor and believe that less visible vapor = more head buzz / less body buzz which is what I'm shooting for.

I use one of the red adapters that come with the Vector butane. Not sure that its needed, but seemed like a good idea. 'Prolly takes 3 seconds to fill (I always vent the iolite before refilling it).

Last night I got 5 hits off a 1/2 bowl. The 5th hit seemed pretty weak, and thought it was done. That's typical.

Today, I decided to try the the same leftover herb again. There was very little taste, and the mouth feel was such that I _knew_ it was finished.

Tried a second hit, and it had no taste, and no mouth-feel to it. So my assumption last night was correct, it was finished after 5 hits... nooooooo...waiiitttt for it...10-15 minutes later it hit me. :-)

Even after all the taste and mouth-feel is gone there was still quite a bit of magic in the ole herb. So, I've been giving up too soon.

This has been my experience as well. I've always been content to just keep puffing away until I'm good and high.

Same here. One medium packed bowl will work for me... Might take 30 minutes to complete.

I have seen posts occasionally mentioning purging the butane tank so I followed the instructions and let everything all hiss out.

I did this a couple of times since there was still a small amount hissing out even after 3 pushes in on the filler.

I filled the unit and when I moved the switch to the on position I heard no hissing at all.
Oh no.

So I repeated the process and still no go.
Hmmm.

So I purged again and remembering something I read somewhere I used a new can of Colibri instead of using the can of the Power 5x that came with my unit back in October. I read that sometimes the bottom of the batch of a can can be contaminated and I was near empty on the original can.

I hit the switch and still no hissing. Crap.
So I turned it off and back on again and I heard a slow hissing and then it stopped and then it started and got louder, then paused, sputtering and came on strong again.

I had to hit the igniter 6 times instead of the usual 1 or 2 times before it caught.

So I figure I contaminated the unit with the bad gas residing in the bottom of the original can.

So my question is: what can I do to de contaminate the filler tank? Will this eventually clear up?

I used a ball point pen to push in on the filler--was this wrong? Did I maybe do something to the filler to not let it take in new butane or do you think it was / is contaminated?
Thanks.

It should clear up after you use a couple tanks of good butane. Glad you got it working again. I had one that did the cloggy thing and was about ready to send for service but did same as you... been working fine for months since then. Now I avoid using the end of can.

i have never sat there and counted my hits on the iolite but im with Lo about how a small bowls lasts like 15 mins.

its important to note that the first hits are going to be very visible. towards the end they will be hard to see at all, especially because youre getting less vapor per hit at the end and by the time you exhale a lot of vapor dissipates in your lungs.

Also i hit my iolite very slow and let it cycle between hits to make sure its back up to its set temp.

I've had friends turned off by the iolite because they try to use it in a party atmosphere, you know, hit and pass sort of thing. being in a circle rotation will cause it to not heat all the way up, therefore a lot of people think it sucks because they arent waiting for it to cycle between hits.

just my :2c:

Okay so I might be totally crazy and this definitely requires some further testing tomorrow, but I think I may have just stumbled upon a way to milk the Iolite like crazy.

I don't know about you, but I've always held mine lightly; usually pinched between two fingers on the cool side. Just now for whatever reason I held it tightly, with my hand covering pretty much all of the ventilation area. My hits doing this feel thick and really fill up my lungs like I've never had it do before. Each is also producing more and bigger clouds of visible vapour than I'm used to.

Will do more tests tomorrow and report back.

Careful trying at home, the vent side does get pretty toasty when you cover it up.

Any of you with the older gen Iolites with the removable pin have it strip or break ??

I wasn't paying attn when re-installing the pin after totally destroyed the thread in the cup side.....

If you've done it, what now ? Just use it without, and with no unit screen & spacer ? And tips or things to watch out for ?

Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have gifted my spare !

Strange.... doesn't make much sense then huh, and I can't think of anything that would make a diference aside from just letting it dry out further and hopefully it will kick again.

Hope that's all it is and works out for you...

EDIT: can't type worth a crap, lol... can ya tell "mine" works ? <--- sorry

smokum,
About this time last year I purchased my first vaporizer, the iolite. I drove 50 miles and paid 250 dollars the day I found it on the internet. Constant combustion seemed to be making me "sick" about twice a year so I figured why not. Where I'm at smoking "blunts" is more popular than ever and I admit to spending way too much money on White Owls and Swisher sweets in the last few years.
Back to the Iolite, I used it for several months almost exclusively even though the mouthpiece threading broke right away. I just took the remaining mouth piece tubing and "made it work". But the screen in the filling chamber was very clogged and I was having to suck way too hard. At some point I started smoking again, and at some point I stopped using my iolite all together. Until new years eve, when I got sick once again. Same as always, chills, fever, aching body and coughing up all kinds of junk. It was time to go back to the iolite and I cannot be happier. I am tasting my herbs again and they taste great. I am conserving my stash. You can use a small pinch of ground herb, an amount that would suck straight through on most any glass piece. It is a different sort of buzz, most describe it as a cleaner buzz and I would agree.
So after all that introductory information here is my question/dilemma. I want to buy an updated iolilte and get my old one a new "bowl". But after doing a lot of lurking around here I am thinking why not just get the new ExtremeQ vap. I love the portability of the iolite even when I am in the house. But how cool would it be to fill up a bag?? I have been looking at Got Vape.com so much I feel like they are sucking me into the iolite. Any thoughts

luvnthevapor,
Hello Everybody!

Just purchased my first vape, an extreme q and am having so much fun! Haven't smoked in a week and don't miss it. Fuck Combustion!! :D

NOW, i find myself searching for a portable and like both the iolite and the MFLB. Can anyone shed some light on the comparison. I like the idea of the iolite for stealth but am concerned with the noise. Although the MFLB is smaller it seems the iolite has it's hand free sipping purpose.
Any Advice? :2c:

how long do you guys let your iolite heat up for before taking your first draw? and also is it normal for it to keep lighting up and hissing every 5-10 seconds during use?

I let mine run 2 cycles before I pack it and then once packed I wait for it to run three more cycles and then take my first rip after that third cycle. It shouldn't run the cycles that often though. Mine will probably run a cycle every 45-50 seconds.

I let mine sit about 3-5 minutes I'd guess. Takes a bit of time before vapor really starts going for me. Then I try let it sit a cycle or two in between.

I've actually never had a plastic taste in mine. Or at least I don't remember ever noticing a plasticy taste. :ko:

If you try covering the vent like I describe in the last page, you might find you get some much bigger rips out of it. I've been eager to experiment with the technique since I stumbled upon it a couple nights back, but I'm waiting on some new product. I've also never experienced any kind of plastic taste.

Plastic taste with the iolite? Never had that. Also, there's zero plastic in the chamber assembly. It's all metal

I did with mine. I think it came from the draw tube heating up rather than from the chamber itself. Don't really know, but that taste was one of the things that turned me off to this vape.
