Is Amazon an exception? I don't understand.
I thought O&B would honer warranty service from all authorized sellers?
If not, this is cause for concern, with warranty service from O&B you only need to return the main unit.
I bet a return to Amazon would require sending everything, and If it was not complete, they may not replace it.

Ciarn please elaborate, why won't O&B provide warranty service from Amazon.com direct purchase?
and how many other "authorized" resellers are treated this way?

I wish I never bought an iolite off ebay. Bought my second one, had a problem, was talked into exchanging it for Chinese junk. My current one (my third) is holding up. Maybe they're getting better.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I've only had my iolite for three weeks, but so far I think its great. It does take quite a few clicks to get it to ignite... I live at 5,000 feet elevation, so that probably accounts for that.

My iolite came with the optimizer, and for me, it works well. I get good vaporization. The herb is evenly browned when its finished. Indica affects me like it should (so its vaporizing the CBDs).

That's interesting. In my experience the effects I get from my Iolite is pretty consistent regardless of the strand, and it's always a head high. I've never really felt like it's gotten me stoned. Two bowls and up I'm laughing my ass off though. The Iolite is the only vaporizer I've used regularly, but I've got an EQV in the mail and I'm excited to experiment with higher temperatures. Just out of curiosity, have you tried using the Iolite without the optimizer for comparison?

Hey guys,

Just picked up my first Iolite the other day and I have to say...I love it! I was hoping to get some insight from other fans....any tips, tricks, ideas?

One thing I have noticed is it seems to really burn through green pretty quick...I pack it and I get about 5 good hits and she's done. Does this seem right? I also only use Vector 5x as always but its a little bit tough getting tip to line up.

Looking forward to any thoughts...thanks fellow flame haters.

One thing I noticed, was that if I filled the combustion chamber up all the way (or if I don't let it heat up enough) then I get mostly a head-high. If I loosely fill the chamber only half full, and let the iolite cycle through four times for the first pull, and at least two cycles between each pull, after the first, then I consistently get a nice body-high (and a head high too).

I live at 5000 foot elevation, and I'm not sure if that makes the difference or not.

That doesn't seem right to me. You should be getting a lot more than 5 hits unless you're packing a very very small amount in there. Are you not seeing any vapor after the five hits or does it taste done? the amount of hits you get should be at least 3 times more than what you say your getting now.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
I normally load a half bowl loose, go through 2 warm ups and pull long slow direct lung inhale until it heats again... pause till it heats twice again then repeat twice with a light stir before the last reheat.

I get full effect, body & head... more or less is (to me) dependant on strain, but more importantly is the flavour.

As soon as it starts to get that " burnt popcorn" taste, I turn my unit off and draw at it until I get nothing more, then I empty my vape poo into a container to later BHO it.

For me.... its all about the flavour along with effect, and secondary is the efficiency. Plus I like my concentrates extra treat so not to waste anything.

Thanks smokum and greystroke. Im not getting much cloud at all. I think I may be over packing it, when I unload the browned herb it comes out like an over baked cupcake. I get a great taste first couple pulls but after that it starts to disapate.

Do you guys turn the unit off to repack? And how often do you refill?

Your Vapor wisdom is much appreciated.

Hey MV... If your herb is coming out like a overbaked cupcake you probably are loading it too full. Try 1/2 or 2/3 full and give it a go. It seems to work better when there is more room for vapor to form.

I've also found a HUGE difference in visible vapor when my screen and bowl are newly cleaned. Once it starts showing performance decrease I know it's time to clean the works.

Thanks Lo...what about the gas? How long should a full tank last? How heavy do you grind your MJ, I have been grinding my nuggets to about a rollable size.

Grind them as fine as they'll go. Because you're not applying a thousand degrees to your herb like you do when you smoke it, you want as much surface area open to heat as possible. This is another reason dry herb is best for vaping, you can crumble it up really well.

As far as butane goes, I usually bleed and refill my tank after three or four sessions. I'm probably wasting a little butane doing this but I've been on the same $6 can since I bought my Iolite back in October so I'm not terribly concerned. I find that by bleeding the tank manually rather than running it dry through use I never have trouble getting the Iolite to start.

I have also found a fine grind (finer than for rolling) works better!

I usually top up my butane after a couple sessions just to make sure they're full when I need them but I do like to vent them completely every so often too. I think it helps to make sure air isn't in the tank.

It could be in my head but I feel like the butane flows better or has more pressure when tank is full or nearly full... easier starts?? Again, that could be in my head but I've used the Io's more than a year and still ticking so I'm sticking with my methods lol.

What is everyone doing for screen replacements... Just replaced mine after 6months of useage, due to a hole (stupid pokey)... So I am down to my last screen,

I've owned my iolite for over a year now and I love it, but I've had one strange problem over the past several months. The unit vapes well and always ignites relatively promptly, but there's something wrong with my butane tank. When I fill it, it only goes for about a second before spewing out the top; consequently, I end up re-filling it every 3-4 bowlpacks. I was dumb and used shit quality butane for the first 2-3 months of ownership, but she's seen nothing but vector since then (jan-feb '09).

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

edit-the bowl area with the pin also developed some sort of rust (I used to be so bad about cleaning/maintaining my equipment). Is there any safe way of cleaning this?

Greeney - You can order screen replacements through Blisssville & Vapeworld. I clean mine often with Everclear and haven't had to buy new ones yet.

Upstate - You might need to vent your tank. It may have air in it. There are instructions to do that linked below. You can use Q-Tips with Iso or Everclear to clean the chamber & pin. Easier to clean if you do it often.

For me, a fill lasts six sessions.

After that, even though it sounds like there's plenty of gas coming out, when I turn it on, it won't light. Then I turn it off, and purge it, and then refill it, and its good to go another six sessions.

I dunno. I usually only fill the herb chamber half full, and loose, not packed, and I'll get 4 good hits (and may be a 5th 1/2 hit) out of that.

The other evening the BF and I shared the iolite, and on a 2/3 full bowl, we each got 4 good hits off of it (my last hit was pretty weak... so say a total of 7 good hits).

I'm not sure whether your herb has lower content of goodies or perhaps your stuff isn't ground as well as it could be. The 2/3 full chamber provides me with many hits over about a 15 min period usually. I also have found letting it sit & cycle allows better results.

Just for the heck of it. Next time you finish a bowl, empty it out onto something and see if it can be ground up further easily. If so, put it back in and see if you get vapor. That may tell you your stuff should be ground further prior to use. It is also possible your material just has less goodies in it.... Can't troubleshoot that from here ;)

Good luck.

I'm with Lo on this one. A bowl packed that full should be giving you a lot more hits than 5. Although, I'm beginning to think that some of the newer units are running a lot hotter. I saw a post on GC last night with someone hooking their iolite up to a bong and it actually milked. Mine is not capable of doing that.

On a half bowl I get at least 6/7 nice ones and then shut it down, taking in a couple more as the unit cools off.

I take a draw and then let it recycle before taking another draw and I do turn the unit upside down occasionally with a soft shake to mix things up a bit as I read about loosening things up a bit for more exposure.

You guy's have all been great, I love FC! As for my Iolite, I think I am getting to a point that has been comfortable. I really like this unit alot. but with that being said, I still need help. I'm using vector butane, does anybody have trouble filling. It really seems to spew alot quicker than I had anticipated. Is it possible that the stock tip is not a good fit? Are any of you using any of the additional tips included with a can of Vector?

I also noticed that I get much more vapor and better pulls all around without using the extended mouthpiece. I actually get somewhat of a cloud. The Iolite is nothing short of fun, if O & B could work out a few little tidbits it may become my favorite.

Thanks tokers for all the help, glad to be here for sure!

I've been using only Vector since I purchase mine back in April of last year and of all the cans I've gone though, I've had one that wouldn't connect right to the Iolite and would do similar to what you're describing. Once you place the butane onto the Iolite, wiggle the butane around a little bit before pressing down to refill. You shouldn't need to use any of the supplied adapters for it to refill.
