Arizer Solo

Two quick things. Still reading through the thread and soaking up wisdom. I apologize if these are already answered.

1) does anyone have the Solo charger that lets you charge and use it at the same time? If so, can you let me know either what the power specs on it are, just take a photo of the specs, or (ideally) show what it outputs on a multimeter?

2) should I be worried if the orange light next to "1" goes between flashing and staying solid while charging? Low power draw perhaps?

1) the adapter doesnt let you charge it and use it. it just lets you use it on direct power

2) do you mean all the other lights are solid but the first one blinks or is it just when its at the 1st charge level?

I don't think the shorty improves anything but the turbo providers more airflow...and IMO too much airflow...I think the normal one is the perfect balanced ... this vape was designed to have a restricted airflow.
mOsh how do you like the BUBBLER?

EDIT: never mind.... I just realized it wouldn't work like I wanted due to the air/vapor coming from above the disc :(

We've been thorough this a lot, I've touched on it again in the last week or so.

In broad terms if the applied voltage is above about 7 Volts but less than 9, the unit goes into PA mode and draws 2 Amps in cycles as it heats (it uses it's own battery to control things, it slowly discharges even thought it's not heating). If it's above just shy of 12 Volts (say 11.7 or .8) the unit goes into charging mode and draws a little under an Amp until it's charged then goes to zero. Between 9 and 12 is 'no man's land'. You get a flashing 'light show' on the bottom few lights and no useful heat or charging.

The guys with random charging problems are dealing with chargers too close to the 12 Volt limit.

You need two separate voltages and current capacities, no commercial supply does that, although this one of my kluges does so with the switch......but not at the same time....ever. Charge or PA.

which is what i said. I find my PA to be a very useful addition to my solo never need to worry about charging it unless I've used the battery for some reason ;)

Ahhh okay I thought you misunderstood what I mean but I misunderstood what it did! I'm still interested though... even if you plug it in to charge and not use it it won't charge? Does it run at 9v?

Either way I love this thing already. The Pax was fun to hold me over until I got the $160 Solo ;)

edit: Is there any way to turn off the beep permanently? I can't use this stealthily if I have to deal with a BEEEEEP every 12 minutes (doesn't mean i don't love it lol)

damn... im gone for less than a month from FC and i missed over 20 pages of this thread? holy balls

cant say enough amazing things about the solo. its easily my favorite vape. if they make a solo mini it will kill the portable game.

I do that but every time the unit powers off, it makes the BEEP next time I turn it on, and then i have to hold up and it will stay off the remainder of the time it's on. It just sucks though because it forgets every time it powers off. Or maybe i'm not doing something right, lol.

You're not holding it down long enough. Hold it down for like 5 or 6 seconds. Then power off and test it.

Going from off to on you get a beep after a few seconds to tell you it's changed. Going from beep to silent you get a period of silence..... Get the problem? Have faith, hold it down over long, it'll work.

When enabled it only beeps on power up and power down anyway. You're not doing anything of value.....

Keep playing with it, I was just playing with mine and Ihave no idea what I did but I got mine to do the exact opposite if yours were o turned the beep off, turned the unit off turned it back on, turned the beep on, I turned the unit off and back on but the beep stayed off. I had to turn it back on several times before the beep would stay on. The weirdest part is this is the first time that had ever happened. also make sure you are holding the up button long enough, try for like 5 seconds instead of 2, if the temp goes up when you release the button you didn't hold long enough

Damn a miniature solo? That would kick ass if it was stealthier. I wonder how they could design the stem any differently.

for the record there is no mini in development as far as Arizer has stated. it was a rumor some months back, but it has been on the back of my mind since.

my fault for bringing it up again everyone!

Haha, before I saw this I did some crazy shit where I kept doing it and turning it off and on. Eventually it stuck! No more beep!

Really glad Arizer decided to bring it down to $160 for now. I wonder if they've been selling a ton of them.

Deeper bowl, better screen design, pyrex/similar really tough stem that comes with cap?

If the mouthpiece was something I could throw in a bag and not be TOO worried about it i'd be thrilled! but then again that's why i'm waiting for Ed to make more stems

Gentle Friends,

It occurred to me that since I have a variable voltage PA supply here I could do a couple of interesting tests. After again verifying my unit is OK from 6.9 to 9.1 Volts in PA mode I decided to do two series of tests, one with the PA set at 7.5 Volts and again at 8.5 Volts. In each series I ran 3 tests at step 2, 3 at step 4 (where I normally run) and 3 more at step 7. Each test consisted of timing (to .1 seconds as best I could with my stopwatch) the on and off times of the heater after it was stable. This actually takes a minimum of six cycles of course if you're not doing 'splits' (as I did in this test). The times came out within .5 seconds of each other worst case, I averaged each set of 3. The average on/off times were:

At 7.5 Volts in, step 2, 4 and 7:
5.2s/13.5s *** 28%
6.2s/11.2s *** 36%
8.0s/09.6s *** 45%

Going to 8.5 Volts gives:
4.6s/16.1s *** 22%
5.3s/13.8s *** 28%
6.8s/11.7s *** 37%

The raw data makes sense for the most part. There seems to be some 'funny business' with the off times mostly in the second run? I suspect the temperature sensor isn't exactly right in the unit, that is there's a location issue that doesn't really matter. I spot checked the data, it seems solid.

This fits with the power usage. The measured current is about 2 Amps, the battery about 2Ah so we'd expect an hour of on time, give or take. Since it's only on about 1/3 of the time we're looking at closer to 3 hours under these conditions, at 12 minutes per that's 15 theoretical sessions of which perhaps a third are blocked to save the battery from an early grave. We get less than that since we're pulling air through (rather than leaving it laying on it's side like I did with no load) making the typical values reported (say 6 to 8 sessions?) reasonable.

Notice, however, the numbers say that total sessions number will vary a lot with step level even after we back out the changes in timing with discharging battery.;

Anyway, time for some reflection later, but I thought some folks might like a look at the raw data?

Does anyone know good coupon codes to use on puffitup.com for the solo and space case grinders?

Im trying to buy the solo a two piece space case (titanium) and four piece space case (also titanium)

It's looking like its going to be around 270.00

Anyway to get it under 250?

Here is my suggestion, buy the solo from a legit seller on ebay ~120, then buy a santa cruz shredder (most people prefer it to the space case).

Cheapest place for SCS (~20 less than other stores):

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/herb-grinders.15/page-138#post-353160

Total comes out to about $180 but lets just say $200.

Did I win something for this lol?

EDIT: Yeah I personally wouldnt suggest the titanium SC since I heard many people saying it is LESS durable than the standard SC (its just coating). But the SCS are from what I have heard better (I only have a SCS never a SC so I bought mine off of other people suggestions).

Happy vaping

I'm always sketched out by buying a vape off ebay. I'd much rather deal with Randy is something happened to my solo than some person on ebay or Arizer themselves

Man you don't think so? Arizer would be crazy not to redesign the solo, its only a matter of time imo. Until then I'm extremely happy with my solo the way it is, the folks at Arizer know what they're doing. :whoa:

I thought I had the trick to check the battery level down. Holding the power button down until the light blinked before it went to the temperature level. It showed a 7 every time though so I was like wow what great battery! But I guess I wasn't seeing the battery levelm

Honestly I would not have much problem buying from a power seller on ebay. Especially if the item is a decent amount cheaper considering the solos are usually reliable tanks. Too me its like buying the extended warranty sure it might save your ass but usually they are very lucrative for the stores because the majority do not end up using it.
